I have been following the sport since 1993 and since 2009 in your Nation of Netherlands and have always seen the sport in your Nation as a progressive sort with no boundries for the amount of good cricketers produced in both Male and Female. By the way I am a VRA Amsterdam supporter for my sins in your Nation
The standard each and every season has gotten better by everyone but one thing is holding your Nation back and this includes Ireland where I am from the lack of cricket by our top players in the so called franchise T20 leagues with certain players going under the radar as compared to picking the so called players from others who have been there and done that and yet always complain of too much cricket by them and their boards.
This is why last week in Voorburg with a T20 Tri Series to help all three sides in getting a so called XI right was a good thing and even though as an Irishman in winning and maybe securing a place at the next T20 World Cup already as indicated by Mr De Jong in his twitter even though the Dutch and Scots can still have a say in this forthcomming event is highly unlikely now with possible qualification by both to the Super 8’s the only way we can be stopped
The tournament last week was a joy to watch and even though I have no finger nails left after 3 close encounters the ground looked well and all connected with Voorburg should be applauded in their excellent hosting of the event
Female cricket at club level in Europe all but the English system I would put Netherlands 3rd behind Ireland and Scotland but why as we have seen in Men’s side of the sport with ECN a womens event and maybe this would press for a European Nations League and this would get more exposure for them.
It is depressing to see yet again a 10 sided T20 Women’s World Cup again and now is the time for a 16 sides with something like the men’s with 4 groups of 4 with the top 2 in each going forward to main event and bottom 2 contesting where a ranking system would determine for the top 12 to progress to the next event
Having won the toss and knowing the weather report and standings, VRA should have bat first, go hard and declare after 14, rolling through first 5 with (top level) spin and (possibly) win with Duckworth/Lewiss/Stern. There was no winning fielding first..
