What a shocking week for Irish cricket with 2 losses and yes 1 being against India the other 1 was unacceptable vs Canada against a total that most top class Nations would get in their sleep and be 56/6 and this with a line up of Stirling, Balbirne and Tector who showed in Netherlands Tri-Series can do it. One step forward Two steps backwards from this side since 2015 and not a surprise because all the concern was getting Test Status. Better players in Ireland at this level as we seen in 2023-24 NWCU, NCU so far and LCU today as we see at the ECN T10 Nations championships in recent times.
At least the Netherlands laid their bogey side of Nepal with a 6 wicket win and all eyes at 1730 CET 1630 IST today vs South Africa a win here and with Sri Lanka losing a straight shootout vs Bangladesh for Super 8’s and maybe a win like in the 50 over version last year in India
If Bertus is there what is the current standings now with the elusive top 12 cut off, yes Ireland were 11th but with Zimbabwe in 12th not there it is now time for Scotland and yourselves in Netherlands to grab it by the scruf of the neck because Namibia and are out of it now with England and Australia to come and Canada and USA to far back and PNG gone with 2 losses.
Just reading the story on Emerging Cricket “Netherlands fielded Madison Landsman in this match, who was deemed to be an ineligible player. Landsman holds a Dutch passport but had played for South Africa under-19s in January 2023 and under the ICC’s eligibility criteria she was not eligible to switch allegiance to the Netherlands until January 2026”
It seems a little strange yes the player needs to meet ICC criteria but by the holding of a Dutch Passport should have put her straight into the side as her only match was under-19s in the Under-19s Cricket World Cup as I thought it had to be a Full Senior International for this criteria to kick in. Just my thoughts as it seems a kick in the teeth yet again to an Associate side from a Full member. And to have to wait now until 2026 the Dutch side will want to build a side with a T20 World Cup in that year in England the qualifiers will be played without her and will have no time to impress the selectors if make to England and other events like a 50 over version also
Well hard luck to the Oranje agaist the Proteas today and from halfway apart from Englebrecht 40 and vanBeek 23 scores to at least put up a show against a decent enough side was great to see from your side. An associate Nation playing out of their skins in bowling response and should be praised but the 4th wicket with 2 good players in Stubbs and Miller was key but 103 never enough. But the pitch yet again a disgrace and all at the ICC should have based this event in the West Indies alone. So on to encounters v Bangladesh 13 June the key match and then Sri Lanka at least should be on decent tracks in the West Indies venues.
On another note Dutch Dames Sterre Kalis had a good knock of 43 and shared a 107 2nd wicket partnership in the T20 English regional comp for Northern Diamonds and her side won 13 runs.
Good Day to you Bertus and Rod and everyone else
