Rotterdam
212-2 (35.4 overs)

On the brink of a second consecutive century, Musa cuts Kothari, but he doesn’t get on top of it and Herrington takes the catch. So he has to make do with 98, made from 120 deliveries with eight fours; the Hermes fielders all run across to congratulate and commiserate with him for another superb innings. They may not be so happy to see Saqib Zulfiqar join Gondal, who’s on 84*.

   Voorburg
 205-2 (37 overs)

HBS

Walbrugh persists with Mason, but De Lange is able to bring up the 200, smashing a friendly full toss over cover for four. He’s on 81* now, Croes on 71*, and the stand’s worth 138.

   Kampong

VOC
172-5 (38 overs)

Ahsan Malik averages 14 with the bat in the Topklasse, but he’s doing a job for his team here, pulling Jacod wide of mid-on and going on to 25*. Price is on 62*, and this pair have now added 63 invaluable runs.

   HCC

Just when it seemed that HCC might be getting on top, Abhinay gets the breakthrough: Staal, on 43, plays an awkward prod, scoops the ball up, and the bowler has an easy catch. Staal drops his bat in disgust, as well he might. Hidde Overdijk in at six, Kloppenburg on 29*.

Rotterdam
181-1 (32 overs)

They’re taking a drink at the Loopuyt, with Musa on 80* and Gondal on 7`1*. Dutt’s still only bowled two overs (at the cost of a single run), which seems a little strange in the circumstances. Jamil and Kothari operating at the moment, and going at about five an over.

   Voorburg
 176-2 (33 overs)

HBS
 yet to bat

De Lange and Croes have now put on 109, on 63* and 62* respectively. De Lange not afraid to use his feet to Mason’s spin, though Croes has to scramble back after one gets past his bat. In contrast to last week, Walbrugh is mixing up his bowlers (seven used so far), but the breakthrough is yet to materialise.

   Kampong
  yet to bat

VOC
149-5 (31 overs)

The left-handed Price sweeps Ingram for a single to bring up his maiden Topklasse fifty, with Malik still providing valuable support at the other end. Then a series of twos off Buys taken him along to 56*, and VOC are achieving some much-needed stability in the middle order.

   HCC
  83-3 (24 overs)

VRA

Kloppenburg, who had a pretty mercurial start to his Topklasse career three years ago and hasn’t quite managed to maintain it since, has taken some time to settle, but now he slog-sweeps Shariz purposefully over square leg for six. A string of singles takes him to 22*, with Staal composed at the other end on 37*. Vital partnership for HCC, this.

   Hermes DVS

Rotterdam
157-1 (28 overs)

The stand is now up to 131, and Braat has used seven bowlers as he searshes for the breakthrough. Musa now on 73*, Gondal on 55*, and Rotterdam are building the basis for another monster score..

   Rod Lyall  13:00
Many thanks to Bertus for stepping in and giving me the chance to locate the problem and deal with it. Should be fine now until the innings break.

   Bertus de Jong  12:59
And word is the good professor has managed to revive his laptop, so I’ll be off again. See you all after lunch!

   Kampong

VOC
132-5 (26 overs)

Fifty for van der Meulen as he rocks back to cart Jacod for a monster six over midwicket, but he goes in the next over pulling Bangs straight to the man in front of square. Malik in with Price now, who’s closing in on a fifty of his own.

   Voorburg
 135-2 (26 overs)

HBS

   HCC

VRA

Another down at de Diepput, Banerjee back in the crease and pops a leading edge back at Ahmad, who holds a simple return catch to trigger drinks. Kloppenburg in at four after the break, Staal still there on 28*.

   Hermes DVS
  yet to bat

Rotterdam
123-1 (22 overs)

Hundred up for Rotterdam, and fifty for Musa Ahmad, who brings up the milestone chopping Jabarkhail down through third for four. Gondal’s promotion to three is working out well too, as a couple of overs later he takes a knee to the Belgian leggie and dumps him over the on side for six.

   HCC
  49-2 (16 overs)

VRA
yet to bat

Caution still at de Diepput though, as Staal and Banerjee look to steady things after those two early wickets. Shariz Ahmad into the attack, oh and there goes the caution, Staal makes room and heaves him over cow for six..

   Kampong
  yet to bat

VOC
79-4 (18 overs)

Price survives a big shout for LBW as Jacod spins one into his pads. Drifting on down leg maybe? Bangs from the other end comes in for some tap, van der Meulen pulls a short one to the rope square, then drives through extra for four more. Consolidation phase over it seems.

   Voorburg
  89-2 (17 overs)

HBS
 yet to bat

Croes getting stuck into Kamran at the back end of the 17th, down the track and staright back over his head for four, then jumps back in the crease to pull round the corenr for another.

   Bertus de Jong  12:17
Timezone-appropriate greetings everyone. I fear my esteemed colleague has been let down by his laptop, so you’re all stuck with me for the rest of the day. VOC in trouble heading toward the first drinks break, and a not-great late start for HCC I see. Honours evener elsewhere it seems, but lets see where the day takes us.

   Rod Lyall  11:40
Early warning: my laptop battery is suddenly failing to charge, and I may suddenly disappear. The trusty Bertus will take over a.s.a.p., but there maay a hiatus. Deepest apologies from your Sydney correspondent.

Rotterdam
3-0 (2 overs)

In the game of the day at the Loopuyt Oval, Braat won the toss and invited Sikander Zulfiqar to have a bat. Aryan Dutt opens with a maiden from the Railway End to Musa Ahmad, who survives a not entirely ridiculous LBW appeal. A wide and a single apiece for Shoaib Minhas and Musa of the second, bowled by Braat.

   Voorburg
  2-0 (1 over)

HBS

Kyle Klein, back for HBS, starts from the Paddock End, bowling to Levitt, who’s opened with Hatzoglou. The fourth delivery’s a bouncer, which passes over Levitt’s head and is called wide. Then Levitt gets off the mark with a single as he tucks the ball into the leg side. Lehan Botha to bowl the second.

Tim de Kok has won the toss at Maarschalkerweerd and elected to bat. He leads an unchanged side, while Kampong make two changes: Pienaar Buys and Gert Swanepoel are in for Van der Harten and Gopinath.

   Rod Lyall  10:25
The toss is, as always, scheduled for 10:30, and we’ll bring you those outcomes and any team news as soon as we have them. (I don’t entirely trust any team lists posted in advance of the toss.) There is, inevitably, some speculation about the inclusion of certain national team members since we know that the squad has been practising during the week.

   Rod Lyall  10:15
Good morning, everyone (other greetings are available), and welcome to Round 2 of this season’s 50-over Topklasse competition. We had a rip-roaring opening round last week, and there promise to be plenty of thrills and spills again today. I shall be singing the blues this time round (you’ll see what I mean later), but hopefully not because the band of rain which is predicted for this evening arrives earlier than expected.

  1. Dear Rod and Bertus

Well done to VOC on the win with 3 balls remaining and effectively won it because of the last 10 overs. ACC will be sick but the class of playing in the Topklasse every week proved the key to the result. Play Off cricket at its best.

Now onto the T20’s tomorrow in all 3 sections and looking forward to it all until September when pitches will be put to bed for the winter period

  2. Dear Rod and Bertus

Well the 2025 summer of cricket has been one of the best for me with my side in Ireland Balbriggan winning the Irish Senior Cup, Svanholm winning all before them in Denmark, VRA Amsterdam winning the T20 TK and the Irish scene at International level being a good one particular for Women’s side winning The European Division 1 section with ease, beating Pakistan and Zimbabwe in multi-series. Just need the Glamorgan Men and Women to finish their seasons (Women in Division 2 50 Over Final, Men hoping to last promotion spot in the ECB County Championship Division 2) off well and I will take that

  3. Dear Rod and Bertus

Well as I said the Irish Women would win the European Division 1 at a canter but were pushed in match 2 by the Dutch. The only worry was when Lewis and Prendergast did not play vs Italy in match 6 the sides fielding looked ordinary but the batting was still there. I was impressed by the Dutch in the batting department match 5 apart v Ireland and even Italy impressed maybe now it is England, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Italy and Germany in the top 6 with Denmark, Sweden, Jersey and maybe Austria over Switzerland at the moment completing the top 10 European sides

The sides through so far are USA no great shakes as the Dutch showed in a series against them from the Americas, Thailand and Nepal in which the Dutch again showed are no great shakes from Asia. Zimbabwe and Namibia lets be honest if they did not make it there would have been a debate in African circles about Women’s Cricket and now PNG vs Vanuatu for the remaining spot. Along side Scotland and Bangladesh Ireland and Netherlands have every chance of being the 4 sides who will go but Thailand are my dark horse, but a lack of domestic cricket might hurt them.

PS What is the story with Sterre Kalis and her absence from the Dutch side or is she hoping for an England call-up like the Bryce sisters in Scotland we will see if Sterre is involved in the Dutch side for the new event in November for Namibia, PNG, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, UAE and Scotland. Strange to see Tanzania and Uganda here with Rwanda and Vanuatu being better in my mind.

Roll on the Winter and we will hopefully get it over quick with so much Cricket to look forward to as the Emerging Trophy, ICC Global Qualifier and The Ashes and will be back in March or April to start all over again
