The Topklasse table after round 2
Bertus de Jong 18:08
That’s pretty much a wrap for us today. Perhaps not the most thrilling day’s cricket but some highlights for sure, not least the performances from young Vikram Singh here as well as Leon Turmaine’s all round efforts, as well as Flip Boissevain’s match winning knock down in Voorburg. Sander will have some snaps of that match up later on so do check back for those. We’ll be back with a preview later in the week of course ahead of round three next Sunday, until the this is Bertus de Jong signing off from a sunny balcony in the Bos.

We’re back here too, Visee and Coster opening for HBS, Gunning and Raja sharing the new ball. Gunning bowling at a decent clip under the watchful eyes of KNCB head coach Ryan Campbell, who is standing with Rizwan Akram today. VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 14:24
VRA : 276-7 (50 overs)
Outside edge first ball falls just shy of the man running in and they run one, Lees gives Singh back the strike on the next and then gifts HBS his wicket charging down the track for a single that was never there, mid off returns the ball to Vink who takes the bails, Gunning in next and what better a running partner for Singh as they take two to long off, Singh isn’t quick enough on the next though, coming back for a second and the strike on the final ball after flicking to deep square and run out for 99. Quick leg by off the final ball takes the total to 276-7 at the break.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 14:18
VRA : 270-6 (49 overs)
Dasgupta departs for a creditable 39 looking to loft Singh over his head only to hear his stumps split behind him. Lees in for the last over, Singh on strike five short of a century, Ferdi Vink to bowl the last.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 14:07
Excelsior : 186 all out (47.5 overs)
A sudden collapse has unfolded at the Zomercomplex, we hear. Excelsior have subsided from 160-5 to 186 all out as Tariq and Sikander Zulfiqar clean up the tail.
HCC vs Dosti-United 14:05
HCC : 80 ao (? overs)
Dosti : 8-4 (6 overs)
Another for Overdijk and Dosti are properly dogging up this chase. Four down and less than a tenth of the way to the modest target of 81.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 14:00
VRA : 239-5 (43 overs)
Having been comparatively circumspect early, Singh is allowing himself some freedom now, scoops a full toss off Singh over the shoulder for four, and then breaks out the Marillier against Ferdi Vink. He’s on to 81* now, Dasgupta keeping pace on 32*. The VRA youngsters really doing a numb er on the HBS attack.
Voorburg CC vs ACC 13:58
ACC : 139-6 (41 overs)
Another for Mulder at Westvliet to break the partnership, Bas de Leede with a fine catch.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 13:55
Excelsior : 163-7 (43.4 overs)

VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 13:43
VRA : 205-5 (39 overs)

Voorburg CC vs ACC 13:38
ACC : 120-5 (38.4 overs)
Potdar on 36* and Ramesh Babu 49* for ACC, may make a game of it yet.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 13:33
VOC 46 all out (24 overs
Sparta 48-3 (7.2 overs)
Latif and Hoornweg ease through to the victory, Latif driving Schoonheim wide of mid-on for the winning boundary. Victories don’t come much more comprehensive than that.
Voorburg CC vs ACC 13:30
ACC : 112-5 (36 overs)
Potdar and Ramesh Babu for ACC, we gather.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 13:27
VOC 46 all out (24 overs)
Sparta 35-3 (5.5 overs)
Faisal Iqbal continues where Raza left off, a crashing square drive off Moorman the shot of the day, but when Jelte Schoonheim replaces Upadhyaya he edges through to keeper De Kok and departs for 8. Hoornweg is the new man.
Voorburg CC vs ACC 13:25
ACC : 106-5 (34 overs)
Something of a recovery for ACC now, fifty partnership for the 6th wicket takes them past the 100 mark, though we’re not entirely clear on who’s currently in.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 13:11
VRA : 183-5 (34.5 overs)
Borren doesn’t last long, walks past a straight one from Ahmed for a brisk six runs. Rasool at six and gets stuck in straight away, only to hole out off Ahmed for 14 as Genevasen holds a fine catch right on the rope. Singh has his fifty in the meantime off 76 balls. He’s joined by Dasgupta now. But first drinks.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 13:16
VOC 46 all out (24 overs)
Sparta 21-2 (3 overs)
And hang around he doesn’t, as Moorman produces a steadying second over and Raza is caught by Schoonheim off the penultimate delivery for 9-ball 16. Mamoon Latif in at four.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 13:11
VRA : 159-3 (32 overs)
Turmaine enjoying himself out there, rollicking along at almost a run a ball with the sweep especially productive. Not to be outdone, Singh puts Ahmed up and over the long on rope. Turmaine’s fun comes to an end in the next over however, perishing by the sword as a top edged sweep off Mason is held ten yards in off the midwicket boundary by Navjit Singh. He goes for 37, Borren in at five.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 13:12
Excelsior : 111-5 (32 overs)
Nelson strikes at the Zomercomplex, van Troost caught off Sikander Zulfiqar for 23 and then Inrgam contrives to get himself dismissed hit wicket off a wide from Nidaminaru, having just brought up his fifty. Niels Etman and Shankar in.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 13:11
VOC 46 all out (24 overs)
Sparta 20-1 (2 overs)
Sorry, it was Sardha who departed. And as if to underline the point, Raza smashes Upadhyaya over cow for six. He does not plan on hanging around.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 13:09
VOC 46 all out (24 overs)
Sparta 10-1 (1 over)
There seems to have been a non-DLS adjustment in the innings break, and Sparta will apparently have 47 to win. Tiso Moorman starts from the Schollebos End, Ali Raza smacks him for a couple of boundaries, but the fifth ball of the over sends his leg stump flying. Faisal Iqbal joins Sawan Sardha in the middle. Upadhyaya from the Pavilion End.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 13:01
Excelsior : 99-3 (30 overs)
Handy partnership this between Ingram and van Troost, the latter with two sixes to his name now. Excelsior closing in on triple figures, van Troost on 23*, Ingram 39*.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 12:53
VRA : 125-2 (27 overs)
Turmaine’s been given licence to play his shots it seems, looking very sweep-happy as he moves into double figures with a four over backward square. Singh on 37 meanwhile and the hosts looking eminently comfortable.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 12:46
VOC 47 all out (24 overs)
Moorman props forward to Singh, and Hoornweg at shortish midwicket snaffles another. And that seems to be it, as last man Corey Rutgers doesn’t appear. Joost Martijn Snoep finishes with three for 7 from five overs, Nasratullah Ibrahimkill three for 5 from three.
HCC vs Dosti-United 12:44
HCC : 72-9 (27 overs)
HCC faring little better. Down to their last wicket with just 72 on the board. Klaus and Bijloos out there now to do what they can.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 12:41
VOC 45-8 (22.4 overs)
Deeper still, as Van Wingerden hits Ibrahimkill to Hoornweg at cover. A more experienced batsman might have moved the kid who wandered in front of the sightscreen before facing. Himanshu Shah in now, but if the hole gets any deeper they’ll strike oil.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 12:36
Excelsior : 63-3 (21 overs)
A third for Hussain at the Zomercomplex as Joost Kroesen is caught for 4. Rens van Troost joins Ingram, who’s on 28.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 12:32
VRA : 103-2 (21 overs)
Cooper continues where he left off after the break, but a misconcieved backfoot drive off Stephan Fink flies straight to the hands of Ferdi Vink at mid on to bring his innings to an end 2 shy of a half century. Turmaine in at four, Singh on 28 now.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 12:31
VOC 45-6 (21 overs)
Two wickets in an over for Nasratullah Ibrahimkill, taking over from Snoep, as he bowls first Arnav Jain for 14 and then, three deliveries later, Jelte Schoonheim. VOC in serious trouble now, as Siebe van Wingerden joins Upadhyaya.
Voorburg CC vs ACC 12:25
ACC : 55-5 (19 overs)
Another for Mulder and ACC five down now.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 12:13
VRA : 72-1 (18 overs)
Cooper is looking in belligerent form here meanwhile, he’s already overtaken Singh. Singh on 23 and Cooper 28 as we go to drinks.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 12:22
Excelsior : 58-2 (18 overs)
Inrgam meanwhile seems in fine nick for Exelsior, he has 24 to his name and Joost Kroesen still for company. Sikander Zulfiqar with ball in hand.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 12:18
VOC 37-4 (18 overs)
They’re taking a drink at the Bermweg, and I can state with some confidence that the beginnings of a VOC recovery are in the hands of Ramdas Upadhyaya and (I think) Arnav Jain. Two wickets for Joost Martijn Snoep and one for Khurrum Bhatti, the three catches to keeper Ali Raza.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 12:13
VRA : 72-1 (18 overs)
Cooper is looking in belligerent form here meanwhile, he’s already overtaken Singh. Singh on 23 and Cooper 28 as we go to drinks.
HCC vs Dosti-United 12:10
HCC : 49-5 (~15 overs)
The hosts six down now at de Diepput as Gorlee is caught for 21.
Voorburg CC vs ACC 12:05
ACC : 42-4 (14 overs)
After a brief recovery ACC are in trouble again at Westvliet. Consecutive wickets for Steff Mulder, ACC four down now, Knoll and Ramesh Babu together now for the fifth wicket.
HCC vs Dosti-United 11:58
HCC : 49-5 (13 overs)
And news from de Diepput! Not great news for HCC fans though I’m afraid. They’re five down without fifty on the board. Gorlee and Floyd trying to arrest the slide.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 11:57
VRA : 49-1 (14 overs)
And a breakthrough here too, Wessel Coster does for Nashier as a skewed drive is held comfortably by Genevaasen at point. Cooper comes in at three and quickly gets to work.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 11:54
VOC 21-4 (11.4 overs)
VOC have collapsed at the Bermweg, but unfortunately so has the live score. I take back what I said about modern science. But I can report that the unidentified Sparta keeper has three catches.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 11:50
Excelsior : 36-2 (12 overs)
Another for Hussain at the Zomercomplex, trapping Luuk Kroesen LBW for 10. His elder brother Joost joins Ingram in the middle.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 11:47
VRA : 39-0 (12 overs)
Nashier and Singh beginning to accelerate here, Boddendijk’s second over goes for ten, not helped by three wides. Wessel Coster comes into the attack at the other end and Navjit Singh replaces Bodendijk, and he finds the first real chance as Vikram Singh edges wide of slip pushing forward, but he’s otherwise looked in control. 19 runs for Singh now, Nashier on 13.

Bertus de Jong 11:35
We’re still in the dark regarding events at de Diepput, I’m afraid. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything. If you happen to be at the game, of course, get tweeting!
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 11:25
VOC 8-1 (5 overs)
A single to Malik just behind square, and Bukhari lets Durrani know what he thinks of him with a couple of bouncers, the first of which is called wide. But the final delivery is a yorker, and Durrani’s off stump is uprooted.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 11:25
Excelsior : 22-1 (6.4 overs)
Steady going at het Zomercomplex meanwhile, where young Luuk Kroesen is opening with Tom Heggelman. Or rather he was, Heggelman caught off Mubashar Hussain for 8, we hear, Ingram in at 3.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 11:23
VRA : 19-0 (6 overs)
Singh finding his rhythm here, a handsome straight drive for two off Geenevasen and then moves to double figures cutting him away square for four. Nashier finds his first boundary in similar fashion off Vink in the next over.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 11:22
VOC 6-0 (4 overs)
Hoornweg opens with a maiden to Durrani, and Malik starts cautiously against Bukhari. But when the bowler overpitches he turns him to fine leg for a couple, then playing out the over. Hoornweg’s second is marred only by a legside wide. A little excitement from the final ball, as Sparta are convinced Durrani edges to the keeper, but the umpire disagrees.
Voorburg CC vs ACC 11:11
ACC : 2-2 (2 overs)
Early wickets at Westvliet, ACC two down already courtesy a direct hit run-out from Viv Kingma and Philippe Boissevain holding a catch off Ali Ahmed.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 11:10
VOC 3-0 (1 over)
Mudassar Bukhari opens from the Schollebos End, bowling initially to Ayaz Durrani (for it is he). Rohan Malik is his opening partner. A couple of wides and several dots, punctuated by a big shout as Durrani feels for one just outside off. A push off the final delivery gets him off the mark. Max Hoornweg from the Pavilion End.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 11:08
VRA : 5-0 (2 overs)
We’re underway here meanwhile, Geenevasen and Ferdi Vink open the bowling for HBS, Singh and Nashier for VRA. Geenevasen has a somewhat speculative LBW shout on Singh in his first over, which results only in a leg bye overthrow. Both batsmen off the mark, otherwise uneventful.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 11:01
Belated word from the Zomercomplex, where the hosts have the toss and buck the trend, electing to bowl first.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC 10:54
Batting seems to be flavour of the day for toss-winners today – in contrast to last week – and Pieter Seelaar has reportedly joined the company.
Voorburg CC vs ACC 10:38
Meanwhile at Westvliet ACC win the toss and will likewise have a bat.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 10:35
The hosts win the toss here, and VRA will bat first. The wicket’s taken a fair bit of water over the past week, but Borren and the boys have been hard at work and consensus is they’ve made a decent job of it. Some bad news for the hosts though is that young Luke Hartsink, who did himself such credit on debut last week, is out today with a hand injury.
Rod Lyall 10:31
Thanks to the wonders of modern science and courtesy of our friends from VOC, this is Rod Lyall in Sydney, ready to bring you all the news from the Bermweg, where the Bloodhounds are away to Sparta 1888. We should hear about the toss pretty soon now.
Bertus de Jong 10:15
Should have some toss news trickling in about 15 minutes time, in the meantime of course there’s always the preview
☀ Weather Update ☀ 10:08
“Glorious day!” remarks VRA skipper Peter Borren, and it’s hard to argue. Blue skies all over and expected to stay that way.

Good morning one and all, pleasure to be be back to bring you Round 2 of this abbreviated 2020 Topklasse. I’m here at the Bos where HBS will be taking on VRA, who hit the ground running last week with a comprehensive demolition of Dosti United, while HBS will be looking to bounce back from defeat at the hands of the newly-promoted Punjab Rotterdam. Dosti will be down at de Diepput today taking on HCC, while Punjab will hope to continue their successful return at the Zomercomplex where they welcome reigning champs Excelsior. Voorburg also have points in the bag already and will be aiming to go two from two when they take on ACC at Westvliet. The good professor will be keeping a remote eye on proceedings at Bermweg meanwhile, where Sparta take on VOC.
