At this point as a tail ender you might as well have a swing, and creditably van Vliet does just that, but only suceeds in getting everyone out of the sun with a top edge off Cooper that Hartsink gratefully grabs.

He’s replaced by Andrew now, and not for the first time in the game the bog man makes an immediate impact, Kothari lashes at his first ball and the outside edge flies high and far toward Luke Hartsink who had been hidden at deep third man. Broken hand or no, he rushes in to take a fine catch. Knoll at three and lucky to consensus around the boundary is he’s lucky to get away with what sounded like an edge through to Lees two balls later, though it should be said VRA’s appeal was a little underwhelming. An entertaining over concludes with Knoll driving the last ball through extra cover for four to get off the mark. Gunning to continue.

Voorburg have not only posted the highest total of the day; they have set Punjab a very testing examination.

Or in fact he won’t as Abid nicks off on the final ball. Luke Hartsink is still unfit to bat so that’s that. Not sure why they couldn’t just send him out to stand at the non-striker’s end for the last over given that Lees would have been on strike, but hey-ho.

Andrews’ antics look to have inspired Singh, who puts Kumar onto the clubhouse roof third ball of the 28th. But he won’t make it to fifty. Knoll from the other end and a leading edge pops up for a dolly at mid on and gone for 48. Dasgupta in at five, and gone first ball, pushes forward and that’s another simple catch for Potdar. Turmaine in for the hattrick ball, and barely survives it, outside edge flies low into the cordon but it’s put down. Next one beats the edge and a huge appeal is turned down. VRA wobbling of a sudden.

Wheels well and truly off for ACC now. Kumar back and the first ball is dumped over the square boundary, insult to injury as it’s called a no ball with too few men in the circle. Waste high full toss is pulled round the corner for four more. Yikes. Two balls later and a muscular cut through backward point brings up a 19-ball fifty. The carnage finally comes to an end on the fifth (legal) ball of the over, big top edge on the pull and it’s in the air for an age, McInernery under it and makes no mistake. Never have a team been so happy to see Ben Cooper come to the crease, one imagines.

McInerney finds the breakthrough. Rasool a bit late getting forward to a fullish ball and is castled for 38. Marcus Andrew to the crease, presumably to provide some acceleration, and so he does. Gets a no ball first up which he puts over the midwicket rope where the scorers are saved by their parasol. The free hit is sent over long on, the next cut viciously through point for four, the next lifted over mid off for another. Fair to say ACC rather regret taking that wicket now.
