 HBS vs Excelsior ’20  20:22
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior: 201-7 (29.5 overs)
Dropped off the first ball he faced, Ingram played Excelsior into a winnable, if not yet a winning position, making it possible for Baker and Shankar to finish it off. A match played in very difficult conditions for all concerned, but some very good cricket along the way. And we’ll be doing it all again on Monday! Until then, goodbye from Rod Lyall at Craeyenhout.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20  20:16
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior: 201-7 (29.5 overs)
Baker cuts through the gully for couple, despite the fact that he trips and drops his bat. He spoons the next over short extra for two more. The third is lofted out, dropping short of long on; they get a single. Shankar pushes to cover to level the scores. And Baker finishes it with six into the sightscreen!

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20   20:11
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior: 189-7 (29 overs)
Seven needed off the last.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20  20:08
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior: 184-7 (28.2 overs)
Coster uproots Heggelman’s off stump. Baker in. 12 off 10.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20   20:04
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior: 183-6 (28 overs)
Shankar and Heggelman together, and 13 needed off 12.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20  20:01
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior: 177-6 (27.3 overs)
A great knock comes to an end as Ingram, forced to force the pace, lofts Gibson to Westdijk at long off. His 79 came from just 58 deliveries, but it may have been in vain.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20  19:54
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior: 175-5 (26.4 overs)
Woutersen comes and goes, but the asking rate’s only a tad over sixes.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20   19:52
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior: 168-4 (25.4 overs)
And with that, Kroesen goes, caught by Adil Ahmed off Barresi. David Woutersen joins Ingram, now on 78.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20  19:47
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior: 163-3 (25 overs)
This is building to a great finish. Ingram is the key, but Kroesen’s giving him good support. 33 needed off the last five.

 Bertus de Jong   19:30
So Borren returns to the captaincy to lead VRA to their first victory of the season, and his 100th win for VRA as skipper.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  19:28
VRA : 185 all out (39.4 overs)
Quick : 175-8 (40 overs – closed)
Leg bye, two up over cover, missed sweep, two off a miscued straight drive, dinky ramp for four but too late and a dot to finish. First points of the season for VRA.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20  19:25
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior: 126-3 (19.2 overs)
HBS needed wicket, and Barresi gets it, Parchment strangled down the leg side and caught by Visée for 37, from 31 balls. Ingram’s still there on 51, and joined by Joost Kroesen.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  19:24
VRA : 185 all out (39.4 overs)
Quick : 166-8 (39 overs)
Yorks him! Borren does for Brain after giving away a hard run three off the firt ball, Ekelmans in at ten, they’re putting pressure on the field but still not finding the rope. Seven off, 20 needed off the last. Graber to bowl it.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  19:17
VRA : 185 all out (39.4 overs)
Quick : 159-7 (38 overs)
And Graber gets the real danger, Brand the last real hitter in the quick line up knicks off for 10. Brain joins Vierling. They’re running hard but can’t find the rope. 27 needed off the last two.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20   19:13
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior: 107-2 (18 overs)
Drama at Craeyenhout, as Ingram and Parchment look to raise the tempo after drinks. Ingram almost holes out to Coster on the midwicket boundary off Farshad Khan, but the fielder doesn’t control the ball before he has to toss it up as he steps over the line. There’s a prolonged and, to put it mildly, animated discussion, but the upshot is a single. Then Ingram unleashes against Barresi, a six and three fours off the over.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  19:09
VRA : 185 all out (39.4 overs)
Quick : 152-6 (37 overs)
The asking rate claims another victim, Borren and Lees combine to run out van Schelven. Vierling joins Brand, tight from Borren for the 37th, 34 needed off 3. Graber to bowl the 38th looks like.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  18:59
VRA : 185 all out (39.4 overs)
Quick : 141-5 (35 overs)
Turmaine and the pressure claim another victim, Dake’s leading edge falling to Borren at mid on. Van Schelven in and seven off Cooper’s next, but no boundaries. Quick need 45 off the last five.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  18:57
VOC : 204 all out (?? overs)
Sparta : 63 all out (?? overs)
Sparta meanwhile have gone to pieces at Hazelaarweg.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20   18:53
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior: 68-2 (15 overs)
The advent of Barresi brings Parchment the first boundary of the partnership, and the over yields nine in all. But Excelsior are a long way off the pace here.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  18:52
VOC : 204 all out (?? overs)
Sparta : 63-8 (16.5 overs)
Sparta meanwhile are going further to pieces at Hazelaarweg.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  18:49
VRA : 185 all out (39.4 overs)
Quick : 128-4 (32 overs)
And the pressure tells, Mol looks to cut one that wasn’t there for the cutting and inside edges into the stumps on the first ball of the 22nd, Stokkers outside edges another ill-judged cut to point. Two for Turmaine, two new batsmen in – Brand and Dake with a job to do now.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  18:42
VOC : 204 all out (?? overs)
Sparta : 58-6 (14.4 overs)
Sparta meanwhile are going to pieces at Hazelaarweg.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  18:39
VRA : 185 all out (39.4 overs)
Quick : 121-2 (30 overs)
No further excitement but VRA are just starting to shift the pressure on to Quick here, runs have dried up since Bista’s dismissal and Quick just 4 ahead of par at this stage, Turmaine and Borren keeping it tight.

&nbspHBS vs Excelsior ’20 &nbsp18:30
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior : 40-2 (10 overs)
From an Excelsior point of view, this is turning into a Maurice Sendak story called The Innings that Went Nowhere. But then Adil Ahmed, who’s replaced Westdijk, gets one to pop to Verhagen, who props and spears the ball to short cover, where Elkin dives forward to take splendid catch. This means that Parchment joins Ingram, but the tempo will need to pick up considerably.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  18:16
VRA : 185 all out (39.4 overs)
Quick : 102-2 (22 overs)
That’s the one they wanted! Cooper again, but Bista this time. Lapse in concentration, straight into the hands of Turmaine at backward point. Gone for 75. But has it come too late? Mol and Stokkers now for Quick. Borren into the attack.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20   18:10
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior : 22-1 (6 overs)
Not much doubt about that one! Etman, having pulled Westdijk wide of mid-on for four, swings at the next one and is unquestionably bowled. Ingram comes in, and is dropped by Barresi at first slip off the first ball he receives.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  17:59
VOC : 204 all out (?? overs)
Sparta : 21-3 (8 overs)
Sparta making a pig’s ear of this chase meanwhile. Further details still scarce.

 Rod Lyall   17:59
What were the odds on the same thing happening simultaneously at Craeyenhout and in the Amsterdamse Bos? That’s gotta be worth a note in Wisden!

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20  17:57
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
Excelsior: 8-0 (3 overs)
A quiet start by Tim Etman and Roel Verhagen, facing Wessel Coster and Berend Westdijk. But there’s a bizaare moment in the third over, when a Coster delivery passes Etman down the leg side and Visée and virtually the entire HBS side claim it nicked the leg stump on the way through. Since we’re not using bails it’s up to the umpires, and after a consultation they decide in the batsman’s favour. While that’s going on, a couple of largish branches come down and land inside the boundary at the Scoreboard End. Fortunately, our intrepid photographer has decamped to the other end.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  17:56
VRA : 185 all out (39.4 overs)
Quick : 83-1 (18 overs)
Cooper finds the breakthrough, but it’s not the wicket they wanted. Bob van Gigch bowled and the appeal upheld this time. Gone for 15, but Bista’s still there on 63 and looks to have everything well in hand.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  17:42
VRA : 185 all out (39.4 overs)
Quick : 68-0 (13 overs)
So we’re playing without bails here owing to the wind I assume, because Bob van Gigch just survived an appeal for bowled. Vikram Singh is convinced he’s clipped off stump, so is Mitch Lees behind the wicket. Lengthy discussions ensue but van Gigch goes nowhere. He may just have become the first batsman since Grace to refuse to walk after being clean bowled.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  17:29
VOC : 204 all out (?? overs)
We gather VOC have been bowled out for 204 meanwhile, and Mohammad Dost has claimed 4 wickets. Further details as they come in.

HBS vs Excelsior ’20  17:27
HBS : 195-4 (30 overs)
But it’s Gibson who takes full advantage, not least of the free hit which follows a Heggelman beamer, which goes for four. That’s followed by a six over cover point, and Gibson finishes on 21, Elkin on 77.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  17:26
VRA : 185 all out (39.4 overs)
Quick : 52-0 (9 overs)
Fifty up for Quick in the 9th and Bista has 43 of them, and compounding VRA’s woes Gul comes down awkwardly in his run up and looks to have turned his ankle. He’s chaired off the field and looks unlikely to play any further role. Singh completes the over.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20 17:17
HBS : 158-4 (27 overs)
Ahmed lasts two balls, run out at the bowler’s end trying a quick single to Tim Etman and beaten by the direct hit, but Elkin despatches Bhatti’s next delivery over midwicket for six. He looks set for big finish.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20   17:10
HBS : 151-3 (26.2 overs)
Barresi contributes a breezy 19 from 15 deliveries before Bhatti fires one into the base of his stumps. Adil Ahmed joins Elkin, now on 60.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  16:59
VRA : 185 all out (39.4 overs)
Quick : 12-0 (3 overs)
And we’re back here at the Bos, Gul and Graber share the new ball, Bista and van Gigch for Quick and Bista looking in fine touch. Assortment of cover and on drives seeing him swiftly to double figures.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20   16:55
HBS : 121-2 (22.3 overs)
Gomes goes, after playing a typically elegant and enterprising innings, caught at slip by Parchment off the returning Ingram as he tries to repeat a deft dab to third man. He made 43 from 34 deliveries; Elkin’s still there on 49. Barresi in at four.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  16:54
VOC : 172-8 (28.4 overs)
Schoonheim finally falls for 66 and Upadhyaya follows two balls later, belated fightback from Sparta here.

HBS vs Excelsior ’20  16:36
HBS : 90-1 (18 overs)
Elkin’s grafting away, but Gomes clearly wants to get on with it: he uses his feet to Baker, lofting him back and into the sightscreen, and then reverse sweeps the next one to the third man boundary.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  16:34
VOC : 147-6 (26.1 overs)
After an impressive period of consolidation, Edwards finally gone for 41. Schoonheim still there one away from his fifty. Remarkable recovery from 50-odd for 4.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20 16:24
HBS : 71-1 (15 overs)
Despite the attentions of Chris (think about it . . . ), we’ve reached a drinks break, with Elkin on 28 and Gomes on 14. Rens van Troost has replaced Heggelman from the Scoreboard End, and now Umar Baker succeeds Bhatti, who bowled a lively but unsuccessful spell.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  16:17
VRA : 185 all out (39.4 overs)
That’s a wrap for the VRA innings, Graber digs one into the ground and it bouces up for Vierling, and Grabers well out of his ground looking for the single. Gul hasn’t moved. Easy run out.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  16:10
VRA : 181-9 (38 overs)
Lees goes for 24 trying to duck a short of a lenth delivery from Dake that skids on into the stumps. Graber in a ten for the antepenultimate over. Mol take the ball and Turmaine’s stumps with the second delivery. Gul last man.

HBS vs Excelsior ’20  16:05
HBS : 56-1 (11.1 overs)
We’d had lots of trouble with the bails blowing off, and now the boundary rope on the far side has shifted. A posse heads over to put it back, but it’ hard to see how the problem can be solved as long as this gale continues. In the cricket, meanwhile, Heggelman and Bhatti are operating now, without making any immediate impression.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  15:53
VRA : 172-6 (35 overs)
Sharp work from Bista in the field behind the wicket sees Szwarczynski run out looking for a sneaky second, Direct hit makes him regret it, gone for 80 and he’s furious. Long joins Lees.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20   15:47
HBS : 44-1 (8 overs)
Visée decides to go after Parchment, hmmering a six over extra cover and pulling him for four through midwicket. But the next one’s fuller, he swings across the line, and is bowled. He made a 17-ball 28, and is succeeded by Sharn Gomes.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20   15:36
HBS : 30-0 (5 overs)
No alarms for HBS as yet, part from an edged by Elkin off Ingram which goes past keeper Verhagen and down to the rope. The bowlers are keeping it reasonably tight in difficult conditions, but Visée and Elkin are proceeding comfortably enough.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  15:33
VRA : 142-5 (31.3 overs)
Lake doesn’t last long though, Brand knicks him off for 1. Lees in.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  15:30
VOC : 53-4 (13.2 overs)
Sparta all over VOC meanwhile, Seelaar the third to go for single figures.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  15:26
VRA : 138-4 (30 overs)
Breakthrough here meanwhile and it’s Bista again, Borren caught for 35. Must say I was unsighted there and accounts differ wildly as to what exactly transpired, but Borren’s done either way. Lake joins Szwarczynski, who’s on 71*.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20   15:21
HBS : 1-0 (1 over)
Lorenzo Ingram starts, bowling into the gale to Tobias Visée. A tidy first over, just a single to long off for Visée from the first ball. Elkin plays out the rest, and Branton Parchment bowls from the Sportlaan End.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  15:05
VOC : 34-2 (7.4 overs)
Make that serious early trouble, Rutgers gone for 21.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  15:04
VOC : 34-2 (7.3 overs)
VOC in early trouble meanwhile as O’Dowd and van Lent both go cheaply.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20   15:03
And your trusty team, after a short mercy dash across Den Haag, is here at Craeyenhout, ready to bring you all the action. The sun is shining, the wind is blowing, and we may actually get some cricket.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  15:03
VRA : 105-3 (24 overs)
Doc Mol on after the interruption and comes in for some punishment, his second over goes for 13 as Szwarczynski brings up his fifty with a cut through point and Borren gets down on one knee to slog him over square leg for six. Borren brings out the reverse next over to Stokkers, hundred up for VRA. Van Schelven back from the other end.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  14:27
VRA : 78-3 (19.2 overs)
Borren down the track to loft Stokkers high and staight for four, but it brings the rain with it on the way down. Doesn’t look like it will last long though. After sheltering from a very brief squall they head back out.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  14:40
VOC : 1-0 (1 over)
They’ve managed to get in an entire over at Hazelaarweg before the rain returns, but it departs again just as quickly and they’re back on.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20  14:38
Word from Craeyenhout is a 2.45 toss for a 3.15 start and 30 overs each way, assuming – of course – no more rain…

 VRA vs Quick Haag  14:27
VRA : 62-3 (15 overs)
Another down here meanwhile, Bista from the Mulders end now and holds a tough return catch diving to his left to dismiss Cooper. Borren in.

Match abandoned due to this Photo: Floris de Lange

 Dosti-United vs VCC  14:25
Well they had a toss, but they needn’t have bothered. Match abandoned, apparently the high winds kept blowing over the sight screens.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  14:18
And it’s raining again.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  14:17
VRA : 50-2 (11 overs)
Skipper and birthay-boy Daan Vierling cycling through his bowlers, brings Lesley Stokkers on to replace Dake and reaps reward in the 11th over as van den Burg, who has passed the armband back to Peter Borren today, top edges a slog-sweep and is caught deep square by Dake. Cooper in at 4, Szwarczynski still there on 30*.

 Dosti-United vs VCC  14:09
Progress at Westvliet too, VCC have the toss and will field, 36-overs each.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  14:06
Some positive news from Hazelaarweg, they’ve had a toss, Sparta won it,and have put VOC in to bat. 36 overs aside assuming no further weather.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  14:02
VRA : 35-1 (7 overs)
well it was a promising partnership, but Dake puts an end to it as Singh gets a hefty top-edge on the pull and Ekelmans holds a simple catch at square leg. Van den Burg in at three, but hard to see VRA reaching their traditional 36-4 from here. Van Schelven takes over from Bista.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  13:42
VRA : 12-0 (2 overs)
Ladies and gents we have some cricket.Quick’s two Mumbaikers sharing the new ball, Singh and Szwarczynski opening for VRA. And a brisk start Szwarczynski hooking Dake’s 4th ball to the rope and then cutting Bista away in front of point for another four next over.

 HCC vs ACC 13:38
The umpires at De Diepput have decided that conditions have not improved sufficiently to give any chance of play in time to permit a 20-over game, and the match has been abandoned. The concern was that the run-ups would remain too dangerous, even if there was no more rain.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  13:23
Sources at Hazelaarweg: “pissing down again.”

 VRA vs Quick Haag  13:15
We may yet see some cricket here, they’ve snuck in a toss which Quick have won. VRA will bat first. Will be a fair few overs off you’d have thought, details to follow.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20  13:08
Early lunch at Craeyenhout too.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  13:05
Another passing shower has put paid to the toss plan. Drua and sunny now but doesn’t look like that will last long.

 Dosti-United vs VCC  12:45
Clearing up at Westvliet. Inspection in 15 minute’s time.

 HCC vs ACC 12:29
We’re taking an early lunch at De Diepput, and they’re removing the covers to give the pitch a chance to dry out. Another inspection at 13:30. It’s a gamble, given the possibility of more rain in the meantime, but it’s the only realistic chance of the ground drying enough to permit any play.

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20  12:22
Bucketing down at Craeyenhout now we gather.

 HCC vs ACC 12:15
The news from the middle is far from encouraging: it’s very wet at the Van Hogenhoucklaan End, and the prospects of any play don’t seem great. They’re going to have another look in a bit, but there’s been another short sharp shower, which hasn’t helped.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  12:13
12.30 lunch and 1.30 inspection is the plan at Hazelaarweg.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  12:05
Brightening up at VRA, covers off, aiming for a 12.30 toss and a 1pm start.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  11:53
Sounds like an early lunch at Hazelaarweg.

 HCC vs ACC  11:49
The rain has stopped at De Diepput, and there are even patches of blue sky away to the west. Inspection ten minutes away.

 Dosti-United vs VCC  11:25
Still raining at Westvliet.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  10:53
Dry at Hazelaarweg now we hear. Inspection at 11.15.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  10:51
Sheeting down here now.

 HCC vs ACC  10:49
It’s now raining at De Diepput, and unhappily, the wind has chosen this moment to drop. There are few things as bleak as a cricket ground in the rain.

Capture
Dark skies over de Diepput too Photo: Sander Tholen

 HBS vs Excelsior ’20  10:45
No play at Craeyenhout for the foreseeable either.

 Dosti-United vs VCC  10:40
Similar story at Westvliet, toss delayed.

 VOC vs Sparta 1888  10:39
There’s some optimism at Hazelaarweg, but no toss as yet. Covers still on for now but hopeful of getting a full game if the weather holds.

 VRA vs Quick Haag  10:37
Been some excitement here too, the famous VRA tree has suffered storm damage and Peter van Gulik’s been up it to perform some impromptu tree surgery, removing a damaged branch. Umpires’ are having a look as I type but doesn’t look like we’ll be starting any time soon.

 HCC vs ACC  10:35
One of the problems here is although the covers are being held down by half-a-dozen benches, the wind is strong enough to shift the benches as well as the covers underneath. We live in exciting times.

Dark and stormy Westvliet Photo: Floris de Lange

 HCC vs ACC  10:31
Good morning etc. from De Diepput. Yes, the news here is not great: the gales and rain have taken their toll, and there’s no immediate prospect of play. The umpires have had a preliminary look, and will make another inspection at 12:00. But there doesn’t appear to be much optimism about. We’ll keep you posted.

   🌧 Weather Update 🌧  10:28
Overcast, blustery and wet here at Amsterdamse Bos, and a similar story elsewhere we gather. The worst of the weather looks to be heading past on either side of the relevant areas, but there’s drizzle threatening all over and last night’s gale has taken it’s toll. Gonna be one of those days, looks like.

Weather’s looking dicey all over via Buienradar.nl

 Bertus de Jong   10:16

Good morning one and all and welcome back yo yet another round of Topklasse matches, the third of four in this double double weekend. I’m here at the Bos for VRA vs Quick Haag, where the effects of last night’s storm are clear but groundsmen are confident the covers has weathered the worst. Still very blustery here and drizzle about. No guarantee of a timely start but fingers crossed. Meanwhile HCC welcome ACC to de Diepput, Rod will hopefully have some news for us on that soon. Elsewhere HBS take on Excelsior at Craeyenhout, VOC welcome Sparta to Hazelaarweg, and ongoing ground unavailability at Drieburg means Dosti take on VCC at Westvliet. Stll ten minutes out from toss time, as always the preview is here to keep you entertained.
