Rod Lyall 18:26
As you can see from the table below, the main effect of today is that HBS slip below HCC as we reach the halfway mark, with VOC now solidly in fifth place. The ODI and T20 series against Zimbabwe will now claim our attention, but TKcricket will be back next Sunday (the competition switching from Saturday at this point), when despite international commitments there’s a full programme of Topklase fixtures. And I can scarcely bring myself to say this, but today at Craeyenhout we have seen the Good (the batting of Barresi and Gomes, O’Dowd and Edwards, the bowling of Westdijk), the Bad (pretty much the rest of both top orders), and the Ugly (some very ordinary fielding by both sides). I shall now don my poncho and ride off into the sunset. This is Rod Lyall saying goodbye for now from Craeyenhout.

HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 18:12
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
VOC : 243-6 (41.4 overs)
Playing for his side rather than himself, O’Dowd continues to take the singles, but then he finishes it with a sweet straight drive off Coster which beats the ring and races to the sightscreen. He’s left on 96 not out, an innings to equal Gomes’s earlier.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 18:06
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
VOC : 232-6 (39.5 overs)
Schoonheim clobbers Wessel Coster for a six over midwicket and then a four wide of mid-on, effectively putting paid to his partner’s chances of reaching a well-deserved hundred. So there’s a kind of poetic irony when he tries to go big again and holes out to Westdijk on the midwicket boundary. He made 27; O’Dowd’s on 89, with eight needed.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 17:56
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
VOC : 216-5 (38 overs)
With only 24 now needed, O’Dowd and Schoonheim can afford to pick off the singles, which is what they’re mostly doing. Barresi’s darts are cutting down the boundaries, but it’s wickets HBS need.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 17:39
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
VOC : 195-5 (34 overs)
HBS have to take wickets, and they certainly have to get O’Dowd: VOC have plenty of overs and only a batting collapse will prevent them from cruising to victory. But Westdijk has now finished, with figures of five for 39, and O’Dowd’s on 79 as they take another drink. The ghost of Ennio Moriccone hangs over Craeyenhout (sorry, it’s those black hats).
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 17:29
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
VOC : 186-5 (31.5 overs)
Visée turns back to Westdijk and, for the first time, to Barresi. This does staunch the flow somewhat initially, but when O’Dowd smacks Westdijk over mid-on for four one senses that the train may have left the station. And as write those words, Edwards is trapped on his crease by Westdijk and the umpire’s finger goes up. He made a superb 81, and the stand was worth 146. Jelte Schoonheim joins O’Dowd, on 73.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 17:14
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
VOC : 165-4 (28 overs)
The floodgates have now opened, and with six for O’Dowd off Adil Ahmed and another for Edwards off Gibson, Visée is forced into T20-style rotation of his bowlers. It hasn’t had much effect so far: 37 have come off the last four overs, with four different bowlers on the wrong end of it.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 16:56
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
VOC : 128-4 (24 overs)
The cloning of the HBS innings continues, and by virtue of some excellent running between the wickets and punishment of the loose ball O’Dowd and Edwards are creating some real momentum. Julian de Mey is introduced into the attack and slows things with a maiden, but then Edwards unleashes on Navjit Singh, hitting him back over his head for the six that brings up his fifty. O’Dowd follows suit two balls later (another echo!). HBS are badly in need of a wicket.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 16:22
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
VOC : 77-4 (15 overs)
There’s a definite feeling of déja vu here, as O’Dowd and Edwards take a leaf out of the Barresi/Gomes playbook. Still a long way to go, but O’Dowd’s looking in good nick on 29, with his partner on 23. They’ve forced a double bowling change, with Gibson and Khan replacing Westdijk and Coster respectively.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 15:55
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
VOC : 40-4 (8.5 overs)
Three slips and a gully now for Westdijk, with just the one slip for Coster. O’Dowd and Seelaar start the process of consolidation, with 240 currently looking very distant indeed. Visée quickly stops flirting with an umbrella field, and Westdijk is cut to one slip. He continues to torment the batsmen with a line outside off stump, though. And a straighter one gets the reward, as Seelaar chips it straight to Navjit Singh at mid-on. Westdijk now has four for 15, as Scott Edwards joins O’Dowd, who is watching this chaos from the other end.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 15:40
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
VOC : 23-3 (5 overs)
Dirk van Baren joins O’Dowd, who hits back-to-back straight fours of Coster, the second of them a crcking shot. Van Baren, though, lasts just three deliveries, hitting uppishly to mid-off, where Gomes dives forward to take the catch. Enter Sebastiaan van Lent, who gets off the mark by driving Westdijk confidently through extra cover. The next is full, there’s a shout for LBW, and umpire Van Liemt’s finger goes up. Van Lent is not happy, waving his bat significantly in the air. Pieter Seelaar comes in, with his side in crisis.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 15:28
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
VOC : 11-1 (2.5 overs)
Several of the HBS fielders are wearing black Lee van Cleef-style hats rather than caps, which gives the thing a Spaghetti Western sort of feel. In the actual cricket, Rutgers edges one over the gully for the first boundary of the innings. He does the same in Westdijk’s next as well, through the gap between gully and backward point. But then he fails to get over the fifth ball of the over, and spears an overhead catch to mid-on. First blood to Westdijk, and HBS.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 15:21
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
VOC : 2-0 (1 over)
And we’re back under way, with Berend Westdijk opening from his customary Sportlaan End to Max O’Dowd, who’s partnered by Corey Rutgers. Two slips and a gully, and one can see why as Westdijk rips one through O’Dowd’s defences. Just a couple of singles off it; Wessel Coster starts from the Scoreboard End.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 14:46
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
That’s probably just about par on the artificial Craeyenhout outfield, but as a recovery from where they were at one stage, it’s worth a great more than that. The Barresi/Gomes stand of 110 for the fifth wicket turned the innings around, and Gomes then went on to see his side well past 200 and to give the attack plenty to bowl at. We’ll be back to bring you the VOC chase in half an hour or so.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 14:37
HBS : 239 all out (50 overs)
Gibson goes for 9, caught at deep cover by Kamawi off Seelaar for nine. Westdijk in at ten, with Gomes now on 109, including a magnificent off drive off Said in the last. That’s all he gets, though, as he skies a catch to Van Baren at extra cover as he looks to cash in at the end. And Seelaar cleans up with three wickets in the over as Khan is smartly stumped by Edwards to finish the innings off the last delivery.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 14:24
HBS : 225-7 (48.2 overs)
The closing overs are all about Sharn Gomes’s quest for his first century of the season, a cause which is greatly helped by his depositing Hanif back straight and into the undergrowth, producing a moderately prolonged search. That takes him to 94, and with a single and a three off the hip off Fletcher he moves to 98. Another single off the last ball of the 48th keeps him on strike, and two deliveries later he pushes the single he needs. It’s tight, Gibson dives for the crease, but the throw misses anyway. This has been a remarkably fine hundred, especially after coming in at 34 for four!
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 14:02
HBS : 195-7 (44.5 overs)
Ashiqullah Said replaces Seelaar, and bowls Julian de Mey for 7. Zak Gibson joins Gomes, now on 81.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 13:49
HBS : 179-6 (41.2 overs)
Seelaar back from the Scoreboard End, keeping things fairly quiet. Hanif also keeps it tidy, but that doesn’t prevent Gomes from carving him away through backward point for four. Coster has started quietly, until he lofts Seelaar very high over deep midwicket and the rope. But in Hanif’s next over another yorker hits him in front, and he goes for 13. Gomes on 72.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 13:34
HBS : 160-5 (37 overs)
A succession of wides from Schoonheim in his next over. At the Spoortlaan End, meanwhile, Bobby Hanif, playing his first match of the season for VOC, comes back into the attack, bowling some very good yorkers. Schoonheim is also causing the batsmen some problems, when he gets his line right. Gomes has moved on to 63.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 13:21
HBS : 144-5 (33 overs)
Gomes is the first to the half-century, with a square drive off Fletcher with beats the diving fielder on the rope, and Barresi follows three deliveries later off Jelte Schoonheim, who replaces Seelaar. But the bowler triumphs in the end, getting through Barresi’s defences with the last of the over and removing him for 51. Wessel Coster joins Gomes, who’s on 54. But first they take another drink.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 13:09
HBS : 130-4 (30 overs)
And this is now Rod Lyall bringing you the news direct from Craeyenhout, having completed by morning duties umpiring a youth match at nearby Quick Haag. HBS are engaged in a full-on recovery process, having been 34 for four at one stage. The stand is now worth 96, with Barresi on 48 and Gomes on 44. Pierce Fletcher has just returned from the Sportlaan End, with Pieter Seelaar operating from the other.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 12:43
HBS : 93-4 (24 overs)
Barresi and Gomes still for HBS, both in the 20s now..
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 12:33
HBS : 84-4 (20 overs)
Fifty partnership for Barresi and Gomes, and a much needed one.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 11:57
HBS : 55-4 (14 overs)
Barresi and Gomes in the middle now for HBS, and rather sooner than they might have liked. A lot of rebuilding to be done.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 11:57
HBS : 34-4 (10 overs)
A genuine collapse now, Elkin bowled and HBS in all sorts.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 11:47
HBS : 34-3 (8 overs)
Not the best start for the Crows, Ahmed gone too, then Navjit Singh runs himself out, three down.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 11:32
HBS : 27-1 (5 overs)
Elkin and Ahmed for HBS, 27 up after five for the loss of Visée.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 11:25
HBS : ?-1 (? overs)
Precious little information leaking out of Craeyenhout, so just the vague but nonetheless significant news that Toby Visée is out for not many.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 10:51
Word comes that HBS batting first was indeed their own idea.
HBS Craeyenhout vs VOC 10:48
And welcome back everyone! We have some news from Craeyenhout, though not as much as we might have hoped for. They’ve had a toss and the hosts will be batting first, though it’s not clear if that’s out of choice. Willingly or no, they’ll be starting their innings in about ten minutes.
Rod Lyall 19:51
It’s been a funny old day, with two of the four games abandoned without a
ball bowled, one going the distance, and another, reduced to 36 overs, finishing in relatively bright Amstelveen sunshine. Tomorrow is, as they say, another day, and with HBS playing VOC at Craeyenhout, we’ll be back to bring you all the action. Join us again then, and in the meantime, this is Rod Lyall, on behalf of the TKcricket team, saying goodbye.

Dosti-United vs ACC 19:23
ACC : 185-4 (36 overs)
Dosti : 160-9 (36 overs)
And Dosti finish 25 short, despite a spirited unbeaten half-century from Mahesh Hans. Saqib Zulfiqar again the leading wicket-taker for ACC with four for 30, Aryan Kumar taking three for 9 in seven overs.
Quick Haag vs VCC 19:20
Quick : 315-4 (50 overs)
VCC : 252 all out (43.5 overs)
De Grooth goes for 107, and VCC rapidly capitulate. All over and Quick win by 63 runs.
Quick Haag vs VCC 19:05
Quick : 315-4 (50 overs)
VCC : 226-7 (41.3 overs)
Hundred for Tom de Grooth off 113 balls, three consecutive fours off Bista to all corners – unlikely to be enough but fine effort nonetheless.
Quick Haag vs VCC 18:53
Quick : 315-4 (50 overs)
VCC : 179-7 (38.1 overs)
De Grooth defiant, sweeping Brand for four to go to 83*, but he’s lost Kingma now too and still more than 100 to get. Glover in with him now.
Dosti-United vs ACC 18:52
ACC : 185-4 (36 overs)
Dosti : 114-8 (30 overs)
Hans and Hoseinbaks making a go of it, the former has a couple of boundaries to his name already, but Dosti have too much to do from here you’d think. Top order has let them down rather and this game looks to be drifting toward the inevitable.
Quick Haag vs VCC 18:36
Quick : 315-4 (50 overs)
VCC : 177-6 (34 overs)
VCC’s innings coming apart now too, had looked on track but Mol and Brand strike in successive overs to remove Floyd and Boissevain. De Grooth still there on 70* now with Kingma for company.
Dosti-United vs ACC 18:35
ACC : 185-4 (36 overs)
Dosti : 88-6 (25 overs)
Well it was always likely to happen eventually. Masood’s entertaining cameo comes to an end as Potdar holds a big top edge of Saqib. Hans in to join Singh.
Dosti-United vs ACC 18:15
ACC : 185-4 (36 overs)
Dosti : 56-5 (20 overs)
Masood and Singh now for Dosti, swinging gamely at everything. Masood creams one a long way back over long on for six, but they’re riding their luck rather. Plenty going up and coming down in space. Good positivity though.
Quick Haag vs VCC 18:02
Quick : 315-4 (50 overs)
VCC : 135-4 (24 overs)
And Gigani gone now too, caught Bista off Mol. De Grooth soldiers on, 60* now.
Dosti-United vs ACC 17:55
ACC : 185-4 (36 overs)
Dosti : 27-4 (15 overs)
Dosti going nowhere slow.
Quick Haag vs VCC 17:42
Quick : 315-4 (50 overs)
VCC : 115-3 (22 overs)
Smit gone, caught behind off Mol for 40, Gigani in.
Quick Haag vs VCC 17:27
Quick : 315-4 (50 overs)
VCC : 102-2 (19 overs)
De Grooth and Smit the younger doing good work for VCC, pretty much where Quick were at the same stage. De Grooth five away from a half century and Smit on 36*.
Dosti-United vs ACC 17:17
ACC : 185-4 (36 overs)
Dosti : 8-2 (5 overs)
Dosti stumbling of the gate, two for Arya already. Ghori and Kohli back in the box. Tewarie and Bali for Dosti now and progress is slow.
Quick Haag vs VCC 16:55
Quick : 315-4 (50 overs)
VCC : 52-2 (10 overs)
Croes gone too now, run rate’s not too much of a worry but de Grooth must be worrying about his shrinking list of potential partners.
Dosti-United vs ACC 16:45
ACC : 185-4 (36 overs)
ACC looking to accelerate at the death, and do well enough. Sikander gets a reprieve as he’s shelled at deep midwicket by Singh off Hoseinbaks, and some enthusiastic hitting gets them to 185.
Quick Haag vs VCC 16:40
Quick : 299-4 (47.3 overs)
VCC : 40-1 (6.3 overs)
First wicket down, Smit pinned LBW by Dake, de Grooth looking much improved however, he’s still there on 30*.
Dosti-United vs ACC 16:22
ACC : 125-4 (27 overs)
Have arrived at het Loopveld, where Mahesh Hans has succeeded in removing Jean Marais for a useful 61 from the top of the order. Sikander and Barends in for ACC now.
Quick Haag vs VCC 16:20
Quick : 299-4 (47.3 overs)
VCC : 15-0 (2 overs)
Back in action at Nieuw Hanenburg, Dake and Groenewald sharing the new ball, Matt Smit and de Grooth for VCC.
Dosti-United vs ACC 16:12
ACC : 125-4 (27 overs)
Have arrived at het Loopveld, where Mahesh Hans has succeeded in removing Jean Marais for a useful 61 from the top of the order. Sikander and Barends in for ACC now.
Dosti-United vs ACC 15:25
ACC : 59-2 (14 overs)
And some belated news from het Loopveld, where it’s game on. Dosti won the toss and asked ACC to bat, which they are now doing. Marais on 30* has just been joined by Saqib.
VRA vs Excelsior ’20 15:20
And this game is officially dead.
Quick Haag vs VCC 15:19
Quick : 299-4 (47.3 overs)
Kingma brings an end to the carnage, Bista clean bowled six short of a double ton. 194 off 147, 19 fours, 8 sixes. Serious knock. Vierling in for the last few overs.
Quick Haag vs VCC 15:10
Quick : 282-3 (46.1 overs)
Runs still coming for Bista puts Glover deep over backward square to initiate a ball-hunting expedition. He’s on 180 off 140 now.
Quick Haag vs VCC 14:55
Quick : 245-3 (42.5 overs)
150 for Bista now, brings it up with a six over midwicket off Humphrey, off 128 balls all told.
HCC vs Sparta 14:52
Bad news from De Diepput. The match has been abandoned. There is no sun, no wind, and the ground is not drying out. So for the second week in a row, the game here is off without a ball being bowled.
Quick Haag vs VCC 14:44
Quick : 222-3 (39.1 overs)
And Glover finds the breakthrough, Mol caught Kingma in the covers for 59. Stokkers joins Bista, who’s on 133*.
Quick Haag vs VCC 14:24
Quick : 188-2 (35.2 overs)
And a hundred for Bista just running it down to third man, his century coming, like his fifty, at exactly a run a ball.
Quick Haag vs VCC 14:12
Quick : 165-2 (33 overs)
Century partnership, and fifty for Mol coming off 86 balls.
HCC vs Sparta 14:08
The best-laid plans . . . The lightest of light showers intervenes and the covers are back on. It’s not likely to amount to much, but it’s put a hold on any progress here.
VRA vs Excelsior ’20 14:02
Lunch here now, umpires are over taking a look at the second ground
HCC vs Sparta 13:53
The forking continues still. They’ll have a look in five minutes, with a view to starting at 14:45.
Quick Haag vs VCC 13:50
Quick : 137-2 (25 overs)
Bista’s found a capable collaborator in Doc Mol, they’ve added 90 for the 3rd wicket and looking well set. Mol’s on to 36*, Bista 75*.
HCC vs Sparta 13:29
They’re still working on the outfield here, particularly on an area in front of the sightscreen at the Van Hogenhoucklaan End. You’d think that all the discussion that’s going might help with the drying out process.
Dosti-United vs ACC 13:25
Early lunch at het Loopveld, hoping for a 2.30ish start. Fingers crossed.
Quick Haag vs VCC 12:46
Quick : 95-2 (16.4 overs)
And that’s a run-a-ball half century for Bista; six 4s and a 6.
VRA vs Excelsior ’20 12:57
Optimism is hard to find here at the Bos, though the sun is breaking through occasionally. Entertainment options limited to watching Guernsey’s go-slow at the European Regional T20 Qualifier Finals or the forgone conclusion that is Australia vs Sri Lanka in the oh-so #competitive World Cup. There’s still no coffee. Inspection at 1pm is the word, though it’s not entirely clear which ground they’ll be inspecting. “Both, either, pick one.”
Bertus de Jong 12:50
Whole lot of nothing happening here at VRA. Still very squishy out there, talk of maybe trying to play on the second ground, eventually. The coffee machine is broken and we’ve been reduced to watching the World Cup. Grim times indeed.
Quick Haag vs VCC 12:46
Quick : 47-2 (7.4 overs)
Bista still cruising but loses two partners in the 8th, van Gigch run out and Hayden Brain cleaned up by Glover. Mol in at four.
Quick Haag vs VCC 12:26
Quick : 30-0 (4 overs)
Bista takes a liking to Glover’s bowling, hits him for 17 off the 4th over.
Quick Haag vs VCC 12:14
Quick : 3-0 (1 over)
And we have some cricket! Bista and van Gigch opening for Quick, Kingma and Glover sharing the new ball for VCC. 3 off the first over.
HCC vs Sparta 12:04
An early lunch at De Diepput. There is still an issue with parts of the outfield, which is soaked, and the umpires want to give it more time to improve, with a rather watery sun now shining. There’s very little wind, but we’re optimistic that we’ll get a start before 2 o’clock.
Quick Haag vs VCC 11:54
Expedited toss and start at Quick, where the hosts have called correctly and will bat first, starting in about 15 minutes. They’re gonna hurry through lunch, so no overs off as yet.
Dosti-United vs ACC 11:52
No play for the foreseeable at het Loopveld, still very wet out there.

Quick Haag vs VCC 11:34
Brightening up now, but still damp underfoot. Another inspection at 12.00
HCC vs Sparta 11:21
There will be an inspection here in 15 minutes. Meanwhile, the forking continues, and there’s a blower operating on the pitch. It’s also looking just a tad brighter.
Quick Haag vs VCC 11:20
Cleared up at the Hague, run ups still rather damp but they’re taking a look with an optimistic eye on a noon start.

HCC vs Sparta 11:00
They’ve taken the covers off at De Diepput, and the umpires are pacing the outfield. Once we get their verdict, we’ll bring you up to speed.
🌧 Weather Update 🌧 10:52
Pretty grim all over, raining in the South and puddles in the North, though there’s better weather moving in behind. May yet see some cricket but here at VRA it won’t be on the main ground. In the meantime we’ll keep you up to date on ever drizzle and downpour.
Dosti-United vs ACC 10:44
Damp and puddly at het Loopvel too.
Quick Haag vs VCC 10:39
And it’s raining in the Hague now.
VRA vs Excelsior ’20 10:38
Won’t be getting on any time soon at VRA either. Heavy overnight rain has done a number on the pitch, not clear if the whole square was covered. Standing water in the outfield too, not looking good at all.
HCC vs Sparta 1888 10:29
And good morning again from De Diepput, which is after all living up to its name. It’s overcast, it’s been raining, plenty, and we’re in for a long delay. The pitch is covered, but the outfield is very, very wet. They’ve been applying forks liberally to the area in front of the dressing rooms over on the far side, but the outfield as a whole is best described as squidgy. We’ll let you know as soon as there’s any news.
Bertus de Jong 10:16
Good morning all and welcome back. Closing in on the half-way point with most of Round 9 today, though as you may have heard HBS-VOC has been pushed back to tomorrow. Given the weather situation today that looks to have been a prescient move on their part, though we’re hopeful we’ll see some play today. I’m on my way to the Bos where VRA will be taking on Excelsior, whilst Rod and Sander are off to de Diepput for HCC-Sparta. About 15 minutes to go before any tossing that might happen on time, in the meantime there’s all new galleries and previews and such.
