Topklasse Live | Finals Playoffs | As it Happened

 Bertus de Jong  18:47
So HCC have booked themselves a showdown against Voorburg at Wetvliet next weekend, Saturday if weather permits, Sunday the reserve day. We’ll be back for that of course, do join us again for the 2022 Topklasse Final which, if it’s anything like the games we’ve had this weekend, should be a classic.

 Bertus de Jong  18:40
Three runs the margin and frankly that undersells how close that was. HCC held their nerve and their chances, HBS fall agonisingly short despite the efforts of Barresi to put HBS back in the driving seat, and de Mey’s defiant rearguard capping off an exceptional personal all-round performance. Yash Patel diserves credit for marshalling the lower order to get the hosts to a score that proved just enough, as do HCC’s left-arm spin trio, Floyd the stand-out today, for slowly pulling the hosts back into the game. But it was the Overdijks that took the wickets when mattered, and one imagine it will be that last over for which the game will be remembered.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  18:36
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 203 all out (50 overs)
Outside edge, safe but a single. The next beats the bat and Patel’s not letting them sneak the bye. Six or nothing needed for Vink. Steps across, full ball swings and connects but that won’t be enough. Taken in the deep and gone. Hidde Overdijk the hero as HCC scrape into the final.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  18:31
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 202-9 (49.3 overs)
Full outside off, thick outside edge, in the air and gone! Two in two! The injured Stephen Vink to the middle, Overdijk on a hattrick.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  18:30
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 202-8 (49.2 overs)
First ball wide outside off and skids on under de Mey’s bat, the next in a similat area draws a big flash, out square on the off side and Floyd’s under it. Held. Gone. Five off four needed. Vink on strike, looks like Scholte to join him.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  18:26
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 202-7 (49 overs)
Short on off first ball, top-edged pull but falls agonisingly short of the man back at fine leg. Just singles off it otherwise and one past the outside edge for a dot. Five to win from the last. Hidde Overdijk to bowl it.

 Bertus de Jong  18:22
We interrupt our coverage to inform you that Hermes DVS have comfortable beaten Quick Haag by 106 runs in the Hoofdklasse Final, and will face Sparta 1888 in the promotion/relegation match next Sunday.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  18:21
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 196-7 (48 overs)
Too wide outside off third ball from Overdijk, overcorrects next ball and de Mey flicks it away all the way through the long grass for four. Three singles, ten needed off the last two, de Mey on strike. Jan-Wieger Overdijk to bowl the penultimate over.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  18:16
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 187-7 (47 overs)
Slot from Crowley second ball and de Mey swings through, up and away over long on for six. Confident drive for two, a smattering of singles, 12 off. Pressure back on HCC. Overdijk returns. 20 needed off 18.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  18:13
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 175-7 (46 overs)
Three balls in and Vink misses a swing at a wide one, Patel gathers and hovers over the stumps as Vink rehearses the shot, then takes the bails and tries unsuccessfully to convince the square leg umpire that Vink drifted out. Nothing doing. Wide and full working though, just two off it. Pringle finishes with 1-41. Crowley still at the far end.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  18:08
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 173-7 (45 overs)
And the pressure tells, Crowley from arround the wicket, fired in full and Klein falls over the shot. Into the pads. Straight enough for the umpire and gone. Ferdi Vink joins de Mey, off strike with a scrambled single before de Mey misses on the walk and draws another huge appeal. Outside the line in the umpire’s opinion. Just three off it though, HCC well on top. Pringle to bowl his last.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  18:02
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 170-6 (44 overs)
De Mey and Klein the younger are hanging in there, but HCC’s left arm spin trio are turning the screw. Asking rate over a run a ball now. Crowley to continue…

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  17:46
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 150-6 (39.1 overs)
Damian Crowley into the attack from the Scoreboard End, but it’s Pringle who gets the breakthrough, bowling Klein for 4. Kyle Klein in to succeed his big brother.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  17:31
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 144-5 (36 overs)
Hidde Overdijk replaces his younger brother, and Barresi brings up his half-century, pushing to midwicket. De Mey’s finding the going tough, but it’s important for the HBS cause that he continues to keep Barresi company. Which requires, of course, that Barresi stays there, but now he’s gone, skying Overdijk to deep midwicket, there Bennett takes the catch. They take another drink, with HCC now definitely favourites.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  17:15
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 135-4 (32.1 overs)
Jan Wieger Overdijk from the Van Hogenhoucklaan End, HCC giving away a couple of unnecessary runs with an overthrow. Barresi tries to go big over the bowler’s head, but he’s a little under it and it plus short of the sightscreen. All told, seven from the over. Then Mason walks across his stumps, trying to dab Floyd fine, and is bowled for 22. Julian de Mey joins Barresi, who’s on 46*.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  17:06
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 127-3 (30 overs)
Floyd back from the Scoreboard End, just a Barresi single coming from his over. But then Barresi pulls Pringle over the midwicket fence, and when off the next delivery a return hits Barresi he immediately complains to the umpires, who have an extended and apparently firm word with Gorlee and his team.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  16:59
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 118-3 (28 overs)
Barresi brings out the reverse sweep, sending Pringle to the backward point boundary, then pulls him hard and high behind square for four more. He’s moved on to 34*, with Mason on a patient 17*.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  16:51
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 107-3 (25 overs)
Felix Bennett replaces Overdijk, just a single off it. Barresi pulls Pringle in front of square, beating Bennett’s dive on the boundary. Still nicely poised at the halfway mark, with HBS just ahead as long as Barresi’s there.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  16:40
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 94-3 (22 overs)
Pringle on immediately after drinks, bowling a maiden to Mason. Plenty of aggression from Hidde Overdijk from the other end, but when he drops a little short again Barresi’s onto it, pulling him wide of mid-on for four.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  16:28
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 88-3 (19 overs)
Hidde Overdijk back from the Scoreboard End, but when he drops a little short Barresi pulls him high over square leg for six. It’s been pretty quiet for a while, and HBS needed that. Time for a drink.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  16:11
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 70-3 (14 overs)
A dreadful mix-up mid-pitch leads to Kaplan being run-out for 29, Then an appeal for a leg-side catch by Patel, diving to his left, off Jan Wieger Overdijk, is turned down, but when Singh edges to the keeper later in the same over the finger does indeed go up. HBS crumbling here, with Barresi in at five.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  16:00
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 66-1 (11.2 overs)
Walbrugh has made it to 35, but then he swings as Jan Wieger Overdijk, skies it towards backward point, and Floyd is under it. Reece Mason in to join Kaplan, who’s on 29*.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  15:50
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 58-0 (9 overs)
Jan Wieger Overdijk replaces Bijloos, with Floyd coming on at the Scoreboard End. Walbrugh greets the spinner by sweeping him fine for four, while Kaplan smacks him over mid-on before pulling him off the back foot, uppishly but safely, for a couple.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  15:37
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 30-0 (6 overs)
A flashing edge from Walbrugh off Overdijk flies past second slip for four, and he plays a more controlled shot next ball, along the ground this time, allowing them to take three into the third-man corner. A square drive by Kaplan off Bijloos brings four more, then Walbrugh edges another through the slips. It’s a bit chancy, but HBS are off to a promising start.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  15:30
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 15-0 (4 overs)
A pretty hostile opening from Overdijk and Bijloos, but Walbrugh gets off the mark with a single, and then plays Overdijk confidently wide of mid-on for a couple. Kaplan is looking pretty comfortable, meanwhile.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  15:20
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
HBS : 1-0 (1 over)
After a delay occasioned by an ambulance called to attend to a footballer injured in a match on the second ground, we’re back in business. Hidde Overdijk starts from the Scoreboard End, bowling to Tayo Walbrugh, who almost goes first ball – again – playing uppishly into the on side and just evading the fielder. There’s a raucus appeal for leg-before as well, mostly from the crowd, to be fair, and he’s off strike with a leg-bye. Yet to get off the mark, though. Reinier Bijloos from the Van Hogenhoucklaan End.

 Rod Lyall  14:37
At Nieuw Hanenburg, meanwhile, Hermes-DVS have recovered from 88 for five to reach 192 for nine, thanks to a very useful 37 from Zaffar Chaudhary. Both games very nicely poised at the break.

 Rod Lyall  14:34
Two decent fightbacks from HCC there, and at the very least they’ve given themselves something to bowl at. HBS would probably have been happier to keep the total below 200. But as so often, early wickets will be the key.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  14:29
HCC : 206 all out (49.1 overs)
Ferdi Vink back from the Van Hogenhoucklaan End, but Overdijk and Bijloos are equal to the challenge, Bijloos usefully edging the last of the over just past Scholte and down to the fence. That brings up the 200, and the home support celebrate noisily as the final pair see off Klein’s last over. But off the first ball from Vink they try for a second, and Overdijk is beaten by the direct hit from long off – great throw!

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  14:20
HCC : 192-9 (46.2 overs)
Full toss from Ryan Klein, hammered back by Floyd, and Klein leaps to take a one-handed catch over his head. Reinier Bijloos the last man.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  14:16
HCC : 192-8 (46 overs)
Ryan Klein returns from the Scoreboard End, Kaplan bowling his last from the other. Floyd pulls him hard over midwicket for six, otherwise singles and a wide. Kaplan finishes with three for 27 from his ten.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  14:05
HCC : 179-8 (43.3 overs)
Another for Kaplan, as he takes the shoulder of Bennett’s bat and Walbrugh dives forward at cover to take the catch just above the ground. Jan Wieger Overdijk in at ten.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  13:57
HCC : 174-7 (41.3 overs)
Kaplan back, and Overdijk edges his third delivery low to Scholte. Felix Bennett in to join Floyd.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  13:55
HCC : 174-6 (41 overs)
The departure of Patel cues a more aggressive approach from Overdijk, who lifts Navjit over the pavilion and onto the tennis courts beyond. It takes a while before they get it back. Then there’s a moment of low comedy in De Mey’s next, when Overdijk sends Floyd back, and he would have been run out by a couple of yards had keeper Scholte not fumbled the ball in taking the stumps. Floyd celebrates by smacking the next over long on. Overdijk now on 31*, Floyd on 9*

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  13:42
HCC : 157-6 (38.2 overs)
Patel lifts Navjit over backward square for six, and Vink brings Julian de Mey back from the Scoreboard End, persisting with spin for the moment. And it works, as Patel, on 40, attempts the aerial route once too often and the ball flies to Vink himself at mid-off. Clayton Floyd joins Overdijk, who’s on 23*.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  13:24
HCC : 137-5 (34 overs)
Patel continues to go after Barresi, cutting him strongly in front of point for four, then hoicking him over wide mid-on for a couple more. As they take a drink Patel’s moved on to 26*, Overdijk on 21*, and HBS could again do with a wicket.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  13:10
HCC : 126-5 (31 overs)
A messy old over from Kyle Klein concedes 13 runs, 7 of them in wides but also including a lovely straight-driven four for Patel. He and Overdijk are gradually rebuilding HCC’s innings after that mini-slump. In Barresi’s next Patel produces a splendid slog-sweep, just clearing the man on the square leg boundary.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  12:53
HCC : 103-5 (28 overs)
Wesley Barresi on from the Scoreboard End, starting with a maiden. Stephan Vink replaces Kaplan, but his hamstring appears to go in his second delivery stride, and Kyle Klein has to finish the over, bowling a couple of wides in the process.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  12:40
HCC : 88-5 (24 overs)
Klein returns from the Scoreboard End, and Overdijk unleashes a superb cover drive for four. The next one’s shorter, but Overdijk cracks it back through mid-off for another. At the other end, Patel treats Kaplan with elaborate respect until he drops one short, and Patel pulls it hard through midwicket to get off the mark with a boundary.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  12:25
HCC : 73-5 (20.5 overs)
Overdijk has the answer, cutting De Mey over Mason’s head for a single. With the straight field up, Gorlee safely plants De Mey back over his head for four, but then he guides the ball straight into the hands of Kaplan at slip. Very soft dismissal, and he departs for 29. HCC in real trouble now! Yash Patel joins Overdijk.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  12:15
HCC : 66-4 (18.2 overs)
Pringle doesn’t last long, cutting at De Mey, and a third catch for Mason! He’s a magnet in the field today. Hidde Overdijk in at six.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  12:08
HCC : 65-3 (17.1 overs)
Another big LBW appeal, this time by Kaplan on Gorlee, but umpire Akram is unmoved. He gets the breakthrough in the next over, though, as Staal goes back to cut, and the ball carries to Mason again, in the gully. He goes for a 32-ball 33, having slowed appreciably after his initial flurry, and that’s the cue for a drink. Tim Pringle in to join Gorlee, who’s on 25*.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  12:00
HCC : 64-2 (15 overs)
Gavin Kaplan replaces Vink, and he too concedes three singles (plus a wide) as Staal and Gorlee keep the scoreboard moving. Gorlee again opts for the aerial route against De Mey, lofting him back over his head for a couple. The stand’s worth 58 now, with Staal on 32* and Gorlee on 25*.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  11:48
HCC : 49-2 (12 overs)
The powerplay ends with HCC on 42 for two, and Julian de Mey is immediately into the attack from the Scoreboard End, and Gorlee drives him through mid-on for four. Then uses his feet to push the single to mid-on. Tidy enough first over. Vink continues from the Van Hogenhoucklaan End, restricting the scoring to a trio of singles.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  11:32
HCC : 41-2 (8 overs)
Things have settled a little, although Staal survives a very loud appeal for leg-before off Klein. He’s moved to 25* from 17 deliveries, with Gorlee on 7*.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  11:19
HCC : 24-2 (4 overs)
Staal flicks Klein off his pads to the midwicket boundary, then lofts one into the legside outfield, not altogether convincingly, for a couple. A meaty square drive for four completes a fairly expensive over for Klein. Four dots from Vink, a single for Gorlee, and then a no-ball, the free hit disappearing over wide long on for six.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  11:11
HCC : 6-2 (2 overs)
A single for Staal, but then Worden drives at Vink and the ball flies to Ryan Klein at cover point. A sensational start for HBS! Boris Gorlee in to join Staal.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  11:06
HCC : 4-1 (1 over)
After a minute’s silence for the greatly-respected umpire Willem Molenaar, who died this week, we’re under way. Ryan Klein starts from the Scoreboard End, bowling to Damian Crowley, with Tonny Staal the non-striker. Crowley’s off the mark with a push to the cover boundary, but he slashes uppishly at the final delivery and Reece Mason dives to his left at gully to take a stunning catch. Zac Worden in early. Ferdi Vink from the Van Hogenhoucklaan End.

 HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout  10:46
HCC :
HCC have won the toss and elected to bat.

 Rod Lyall  10:45
It’s hard to believe we’re suddenly here, on (barring unforeseen weather events) the penultimate day of the 2022 Topklasse campaign. It’s been quite a ride, but if yesterday’s games are any guide the excitement’s not quite over yet. I’m at De Diepput today to bring you my take on all the action, with Sander Tholen’s camera giving us a pictorial record, and we’ll be keeping an eye on events at Nieuw Hanenburg as well, where Quick Haag and Hermes-DVS are battling it out to determine who will face Sparta 1888 next week for a place in next year’s 10-team Topklasse.

 Bertus de Jong  19:00
Well that was a fine day’s cricket all round. HCC ran Voorburg close but some unfortunate running and a middle order collapse meant they couldn’t quite back up an excellent bowling performance with the bat. Engelbrecht a de Leede’s partnership in the first innings was instrumental in getting the hosts to a total, along with a late flourish from the lower order, but while Staal and Worden’s partnership looked to have set HCC on track for a comfortable chase, Bennet was the only other bat to break double figures. HCC will have another shot at making the final when they take on HBS tomorrow, the Crows having held their nerve to knock out Excelsior. We’ll be back for that in the morning of course, do join us again then.

 Voorburg vs HCC  18:56
VCC : 234-6 (50 overs)
HCC : 220 all out (49.1 overs)
And done. Kingma goes short, Bijloos swipes but can only miscue high toward mid off, Engelbrecht takes the catch and Voorburg are through to the final.

 Voorburg vs HCC  18:50

HCC : 213-9 (48 overs)
Trijzelaar gets one out of the middle, full and driven up over mid off for four. De Leede has his man four balls later though, Trijzelaar down the track and swinging hard at a short ball, big top edge goes a long way up, de Leede tracks back to take it himself. 22 needed off 2, Bijloos last man. Malan still from the other end.

 Voorburg vs HCC  18:45

 Voorburg vs HCC  18:40
VCC : 234-6 (50 overs)
HCC : 203-8 (46 overs)

 Voorburg vs HCC  18:35
VCC : 234-6 (50 overs)
HCC : 194-8 (45.2 overs)

 Voorburg vs HCC  18:20
VCC : 234-6 (50 overs)

Boissevain gets Patel, back in the crease looking to work the ball to leg, misses, and good enough for the umpire. 235 looking a long way away of a sudden. Bennett joins Floyd.

 Excelsior ‘20 vs HBS  18:19
HBS : 261-8 (50 overs)
Excelsior : 251 all out (47.5 overs)
Dropped! Gone anyway! Baker looks to push a shorter ball from Navjit out on the off side, in the air toward gully but goes down. Shankar’s already down the track though and Baker is still ballwatching. Throw comes in to Singh who takes the bails. All over. HBS through to the qualifying semi, Excelsior’s season is over.

 Excelsior ‘20 vs HBS  18:17
HBS : 261-8 (50 overs)
Excelsior : 249-9 (47 overs)

 Excelsior ‘20 vs HBS  18:09
HBS : 261-8 (50 overs)

 Excelsior ‘20 vs HBS  17:39
HBS : 261-8 (50 overs)
Excelsior : 247-8 (46 overs)

 Voorburg vs HCC  17:38
VCC : 234-6 (50 overs)
HCC : 172-4 (37 overs)

HBS : 261-8 (50 overs)
Excelsior : 219-6 (40 overs)

 Voorburg vs HCC  17:18
VCC : 234-6 (50 overs)
HCC : 148-2 (30 overs)
Worden goes to fifty cutting Shariz out in front of point. Malan on at the other end now, but the hosts are looking rather short of ideas. When the wicket comes it’s flatly farsical. Staal forces a back foot drive back past Malan for a quick single, both bats running the same line, veer in the same direction and collide. Worden scampers back to the non-strikers and leaves Staal stranded. Gorlee in, Bas de Leede back.

 Excelsior ‘20 vs HBS  17:13
HBS : 261-8 (50 overs)
Excelsior : 202-4 (34.1 overs)
Low full toss from Singh and van Troost sweeps it round the corner for four to bring up his half-century. 200 up for Excelsior too, but next over van Troost has to go, struck on the pad in front of leg and Klein has his second..

 Excelsior ‘20 vs HBS  17:03
HBS : 261-8 (50 overs)
Excelsior : 186-3 (31 overs)

 Excelsior ‘20 vs HBS  16:53
HBS : 261-8 (50 overs)
Excelsior : 179-2 (29 overs)
Navjit almost bags another but can’t cling on to a high return catch to his left off Verhagen. Van Troost then slams Stephen Vink over long on for another six, and Verhagen gives him the same treatment four balls later. Excelsior stil on track for a comfortable chase so far.

 Voorburg vs HCC  16:42
VCC : 234-6 (50 overs)

 Voorburg vs HCC  16:22
VCC : 234-6 (50 overs)
HCC : 70-1 (15 overs)
Boissevain and Ali Ahmed now for VCC and the scoring has slowed somewhat after the powerplay, but HCC look wwell set, Staal on 42*, Worden on 19*.

 Excelsior ‘20 vs HBS  16:02
HBS : 261-8 (50 overs)
Excelsior : 106-1 (16 overs)
