Rod Lyall 19:45
A frustrating day for many, and a miserable one for others. For Voorburg’s Andre Malan and Musa Ahmad, on the other hand, it was pretty triumphant. Voorburg continue their march towards the title, while the other two games in the championship pool were rained off. Wins for Salland and VOC took them further away from the relegation zone, but ACC will have been disappointed to be denied the opportunity to keep pace with them, while Sparta and Kampong are increasingly staring down the relegation barrel. We hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage of what cricket there’s been, and look forward to seeing you again next week.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 19:39
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 240-0 (27.3/33 overs; target 240)
A comparatively quiet over from Jappie, but when Yasir Usman replaces Saqib Musa decides to stake his own claim, smashing him over the midwicket boundary three times in a row to finish the game and, remarkably, to bring up his own century. He finishes with 100* from 82 deliveries, Malan with 131* from 84. That was by any standards an extraordinary run chase.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 19:31
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 208-0 (26/33 overs; target 240)
A century for Malan in his second Topklasse game as he swings Saqib behind square for four. Then he hammers him back over his head for six. Twice, although the second was more cow-cornerish. Thrice, this one more or less bisecting the other two. That’s gone miles into the undergrowth, necessitating another ball. Which follows its predecessor into the trees. Four consecutive sixes, and 28 off the over. Malan now on 125*.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 19:24
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 180-0 (25/33 overs; target 240)
Jappie’s coming round the wicket to the left-handed Musa, but that doesn’t deter him from another big shout for leg-before. He is creating pressure, but Musa cuts the final delivery through point for four. Malan 97*, Musa 79*. 60 off eight.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 19:16
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 168-0 (23/33 overs; target 240)
Jappie into the attack, and he reckons he’s got Musa LBW sweeping. The umpire’s not persuaded, however, and as the drizzle starts again even his very tight over can’t seize the initiative back. 72 needed off ten, which was the asking rate when the chase started. Malan 91*, Musa 73*.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 19:01
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 146-0 (20/33 overs; target 240)
The wheels are starting to come off: Sikander bowls a high full toss which Malan manages to turn to the fine leg boundary, and then he smashes the free hit back over the bowler’s head for six. Saqib switches to the Harbour End; Musa strokes him through extra for four, then guides him to third man for another. When Malan gets to the business end he pulls him hard wide of mid-on. 15 off the over, and we’re guaranteed a result. Voorburg 30 runs ahead of DLS par. Musa on 68*, Malan on 74*.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 18:50
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 116-0 (18/33 overs; target 240)
Musa edges Hussain for four, and brings up his fifty. If that was a bit fortunate the next shot is a lot more composed, as he swings him round to fine leg. Punjab in desperate need of wickets now.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 18:34
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 99-0 (16/33 overs; target 240)
The DLS par score at 20 overs, incidentally, is 116, so Voorburg are in a pretty comfortable position here as long as they continue to deny Punjab wickets; I’m reconsidering what I said about Punjab’s attritional style. (The par score after 16 is 88.) At the moment, it’s shaping to be a repeat of last week, when Punjab were unable to defend 281. And Malan goes to fifty by lofting Hussain over midwicket for six. He’s on 55*, Musa on 41*.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 18:14
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 77-0 (13/33 overs; target 240)
13 off Saqib as Malan and Musa go up a couple of gears. Mubashar Hussain on for Nidamanuru, and he slams the brakes on; just two singles from his first. Sikander Zulfiqar replaces Saqib, though he’s no happier about the footing. At least he can come round the wicket to Musa, whom he keeps quiet until he’s driven sweetly through extra cover for four. That’s the only score from the over. 163 off 20.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 18:14
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 58-0 (10/33 overs)
Saqib on for Tariq; he’s not happy about his footing, but after going for four off his first ball it’s a tidy enough over. 10 off Nidamanuru’s next to keep Voorburg in touch; 183 needed off 23. Malan on 32*, Musa on 23*.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 18:04
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 41-0 (8/33 overs)
Malan glances an overpitched delivery from Tariq for four, then clips the next through midwicket for another. Musa clips Nidamanuru over backward square, but the rain is returning yet again. They stay on for now, with Voorburg needing 199 off 25.
Excelsior ’20 vs HBS 17:55
Excelsior : 175-5 (39.5 overs)
The game at Thurlede has been abandoned.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 17:52
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 24-0 (5/33 overs)
Tariq and Nidamanuru are keeping the batters on a tight leash, and Musa has a stroke of luck when he skies a Tariq delivery into vacant territory behind square. This is a situation purpose-built for Punjab’s attritional style with the ball.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 17:41
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 9-0 (2/33 overs)
Malan drives the last ball of Tariq’s over through the covers for four. Nidamanuru from the Harbour End, a single apiece from it.

Salland vs Kampong 17:08
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 135-5 (34 overs)
All over at Salland, Lubbers and Piyaranga see them home comfortably in the end, finishing on 12* and 58* respectively. Another big step toward safety for Salland, Kampong sink deeper into the danger zone.
Salland vs Kampong 16:58
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)

The match at Sportpark Drieburg has been abandoned.
Salland vs Kampong 16:25
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 86-5 (24 overs)
Salland wobbling of a sudden as Lubbers in run out by Jacod, then Tom Cooper has Barathi caught next over. Reinder Lubbers the new man, still 49 to get.
Salland vs Kampong 16:15
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 83-3 (21 overs)
We’ll have some sort of result at Deventer, and right now it looks likely to be in favour of the hosts. Lubbers and Piyaranga bulding steadily, Malik and Cooper bowling now for Kampong.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 16:12
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 3-0 (0.4 overs)
They do indeed get on, after three deliveries from Suleiman Tariq they start to come off again, but then decide to stay out there. One more ball and they really are off. It would be helpful to know how many overs have been/are being deducted, and what the actual target is. Although the way it’s now raining, it may not matter very much.
VRA Amsterdam vs HCC 16:02
VRA : 5-0 (2 overs)
And we’re done here.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 16:00
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg :
The covers are off, but no sign of action as yet. If they get a start, Voorburg will presumably be chased a revised target.
Salland vs Kampong 15:58
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 68-3 (17 overs)
Salland-Kampong remains a going concern for now, three overs away from a game. Lubbers and Piyaranga still, won’t be too keen to come off at this point either you’d think.
VRA Amserdam vs HCC 15:55
VRA : 5-0 (2 overs)
Covers coming off now, but neither in hope nor expectation one suspects. Reckon they’re just getting a head start on packing up.
Salland vs Kampong 15:38

Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 15:18
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Sikander falls to Van Beek, who skies him to keeper Hingorani and departs for 18. Rehmat Zulfiqar in to join Usman Then Usman’s run out, looking for a single and unable to get back quickly enough to beat bowler Malan’s direct hit from short midwicket. Saqib Zulfiqar makes a belated entrance, and the brothers see the total past 300, Rehmat finishing it with a six over long on off Kingma.
Excelsior ’20 vs HBS 15:10
Excelsior : 175-5 (39.5 overs)
And the rain has returned at Thurlede.
Excelsior ’20 vs HBS 15:05
Excelsior : 175-5 (39.5 overs)
Verhagen, remarkably, hadn’t scored since the fall of Kroesen’s wicket, Hampton dominating with a very rapid 19*, but his caution is to no avail as Ferdi Vink returns to trap him in front for 70. Shankar joins Hampton.
Salland vs Kampong 14:58
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 13-0 (1 over)

VRA Amserdam vs HCC 14:53

Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 14:50

And another, as Asad tries to lap Kingma round the corner and guides the ball straight to De Grooth at backward square. He goes for 65, Yasir Usman in now.
Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC 14:46

VOC Rotterdam vs Sparta 188 14:07
Sparta : 83 all out (30.1 overs)
VOC : 84-1 (7.5 overs)
Edwards clubs Bukhari for a straight six, then cuts the next ball behind point for four more. Gohil into the attack and O’Dowd sweeps his second ball to the rope in front of square. Three balls later and clears the leg to swing him away over midwicket, the slog-sweeps for four more.. Noor from the other end finds a consolation wicket as O’Dowd cuts uppishly and held at deep backward point. Smit in, and two balls later it’s done, Edwards pushes to cover and comedy misfield allows three. Pretty much sums up Sparta’s day.

Covers still on at the Bos in anticipation of another brief shower, no toss as yet. Pretty damp out there but the mood is optimistic.
Bertus de Jong 10:49
Morning all, bit of a grim one I’m afraid but hopefully will clear up this afternoon. Some big games today so all will be keen not to have the rain have it’s way, though some keener than others perhaps…
Rod Lyall 10:48
A very good morning/afternoon/evening, everyone. A bit later than usual, but as yet no news of any tosses on a grey Sunday morning.
