Topklasse Live | ROund 12 | As it Happened

 Rod Lyall    19:45
A frustrating day for many, and a miserable one for others. For Voorburg’s Andre Malan and Musa Ahmad, on the other hand, it was pretty triumphant. Voorburg continue their march towards the title, while the other two games in the championship pool were rained off. Wins for Salland and VOC took them further away from the relegation zone, but ACC will have been disappointed to be denied the opportunity to keep pace with them, while Sparta and Kampong are increasingly staring down the relegation barrel. We hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage of what cricket there’s been, and look forward to seeing you again next week.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  19:39
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 240-0 (27.3/33 overs; target 240)
A comparatively quiet over from Jappie, but when Yasir Usman replaces Saqib Musa decides to stake his own claim, smashing him over the midwicket boundary three times in a row to finish the game and, remarkably, to bring up his own century. He finishes with 100* from 82 deliveries, Malan with 131* from 84. That was by any standards an extraordinary run chase.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  19:31
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 208-0 (26/33 overs; target 240)
A century for Malan in his second Topklasse game as he swings Saqib behind square for four. Then he hammers him back over his head for six. Twice, although the second was more cow-cornerish. Thrice, this one more or less bisecting the other two. That’s gone miles into the undergrowth, necessitating another ball. Which follows its predecessor into the trees. Four consecutive sixes, and 28 off the over. Malan now on 125*.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  19:24
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 180-0 (25/33 overs; target 240)
Jappie’s coming round the wicket to the left-handed Musa, but that doesn’t deter him from another big shout for leg-before. He is creating pressure, but Musa cuts the final delivery through point for four. Malan 97*, Musa 79*. 60 off eight.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  19:16
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 168-0 (23/33 overs; target 240)
Jappie into the attack, and he reckons he’s got Musa LBW sweeping. The umpire’s not persuaded, however, and as the drizzle starts again even his very tight over can’t seize the initiative back. 72 needed off ten, which was the asking rate when the chase started. Malan 91*, Musa 73*.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  19:01
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 146-0 (20/33 overs; target 240)
The wheels are starting to come off: Sikander bowls a high full toss which Malan manages to turn to the fine leg boundary, and then he smashes the free hit back over the bowler’s head for six. Saqib switches to the Harbour End; Musa strokes him through extra for four, then guides him to third man for another. When Malan gets to the business end he pulls him hard wide of mid-on. 15 off the over, and we’re guaranteed a result. Voorburg 30 runs ahead of DLS par. Musa on 68*, Malan on 74*.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  18:50
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 116-0 (18/33 overs; target 240)
Musa edges Hussain for four, and brings up his fifty. If that was a bit fortunate the next shot is a lot more composed, as he swings him round to fine leg. Punjab in desperate need of wickets now.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  18:34
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 99-0 (16/33 overs; target 240)
The DLS par score at 20 overs, incidentally, is 116, so Voorburg are in a pretty comfortable position here as long as they continue to deny Punjab wickets; I’m reconsidering what I said about Punjab’s attritional style. (The par score after 16 is 88.) At the moment, it’s shaping to be a repeat of last week, when Punjab were unable to defend 281. And Malan goes to fifty by lofting Hussain over midwicket for six. He’s on 55*, Musa on 41*.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  18:14
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 77-0 (13/33 overs; target 240)
13 off Saqib as Malan and Musa go up a couple of gears. Mubashar Hussain on for Nidamanuru, and he slams the brakes on; just two singles from his first. Sikander Zulfiqar replaces Saqib, though he’s no happier about the footing. At least he can come round the wicket to Musa, whom he keeps quiet until he’s driven sweetly through extra cover for four. That’s the only score from the over. 163 off 20.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  18:14
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 58-0 (10/33 overs)
Saqib on for Tariq; he’s not happy about his footing, but after going for four off his first ball it’s a tidy enough over. 10 off Nidamanuru’s next to keep Voorburg in touch; 183 needed off 23. Malan on 32*, Musa on 23*.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  18:04
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 41-0 (8/33 overs)
Malan glances an overpitched delivery from Tariq for four, then clips the next through midwicket for another. Musa clips Nidamanuru over backward square, but the rain is returning yet again. They stay on for now, with Voorburg needing 199 off 25.

  Excelsior ’20 vs HBS   17:55
Excelsior : 175-5 (39.5 overs)
The game at Thurlede has been abandoned.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  17:52
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 24-0 (5/33 overs)
Tariq and Nidamanuru are keeping the batters on a tight leash, and Musa has a stroke of luck when he skies a Tariq delivery into vacant territory behind square. This is a situation purpose-built for Punjab’s attritional style with the ball.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  17:41
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 9-0 (2/33 overs)
Malan drives the last ball of Tariq’s over through the covers for four. Nidamanuru from the Harbour End, a single apiece from it.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  17:35
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 3-0 (0.4 overs)
We’re about to get a restart at ‘t Zomercomplex. Voorburg’s revised target is 240 from 33 overs. Musa Ahmad and Andre Malan to resume.

 Salland vs Kampong  17:08
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 135-5 (34 overs)
All over at Salland, Lubbers and Piyaranga see them home comfortably in the end, finishing on 12* and 58* respectively. Another big step toward safety for Salland, Kampong sink deeper into the danger zone.

 Salland vs Kampong  16:58
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 130-5 (33 overs)
Reinder Lubbers and Piyaranga have settled things down, closing in on the win at Deventer as the latter brings up his fifty.

 Dosti Amsterdam vs ACC  16:38
Dosti : 41-0 (4/38 overs)
The match at Sportpark Drieburg has been abandoned.

 Salland vs Kampong  16:25
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 86-5 (24 overs)
Salland wobbling of a sudden as Lubbers in run out by Jacod, then Tom Cooper has Barathi caught next over. Reinder Lubbers the new man, still 49 to get.

 Salland vs Kampong  16:15
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 83-3 (21 overs)
We’ll have some sort of result at Deventer, and right now it looks likely to be in favour of the hosts. Lubbers and Piyaranga bulding steadily, Malik and Cooper bowling now for Kampong.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  16:12
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 3-0 (0.4 overs)
They do indeed get on, after three deliveries from Suleiman Tariq they start to come off again, but then decide to stay out there. One more ball and they really are off. It would be helpful to know how many overs have been/are being deducted, and what the actual target is. Although the way it’s now raining, it may not matter very much.

 VRA Amsterdam vs HCC  16:02
VRA : 5-0 (2 overs)
And we’re done here.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  16:00
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg :
The covers are off, but no sign of action as yet. If they get a start, Voorburg will presumably be chased a revised target.

 Salland vs Kampong  15:58
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 68-3 (17 overs)
Salland-Kampong remains a going concern for now, three overs away from a game. Lubbers and Piyaranga still, won’t be too keen to come off at this point either you’d think.

 VRA Amserdam vs HCC  15:55
VRA : 5-0 (2 overs)
Covers coming off now, but neither in hope nor expectation one suspects. Reckon they’re just getting a head start on packing up.

 Salland vs Kampong  15:38
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 52-3 (10 overs)
And a third for Roy as Khan is caught behind for 14. Captain to the crease, Victor Lubbers joins Piyaranga.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  15:30
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Voorburg :
The rain has spread from Schiedam to Rotterdam, and the covers are back on at ‘t Zomercomplex.

 Salland vs Kampong  15:28
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 41-2 (8 overs)
Two down, Ganesan caught Cooper off Roy for a 24-ball 32. Piyaranga joins Khan.

 Salland vs Kampong  15:18
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 33-1 (6 overs)
Machiavello goes, castled by Roy for a ten-ball duck. Khan in with Ganesan now, Malik into the attack.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  15:18
Punjab : 312-7 (50 overs)
Sikander falls to Van Beek, who skies him to keeper Hingorani and departs for 18. Rehmat Zulfiqar in to join Usman Then Usman’s run out, looking for a single and unable to get back quickly enough to beat bowler Malan’s direct hit from short midwicket. Saqib Zulfiqar makes a belated entrance, and the brothers see the total past 300, Rehmat finishing it with a six over long on off Kingma.

  Excelsior ’20 vs HBS   15:10
Excelsior : 175-5 (39.5 overs)
And the rain has returned at Thurlede.

  Excelsior ’20 vs HBS   15:05
Excelsior : 175-5 (39.5 overs)
Verhagen, remarkably, hadn’t scored since the fall of Kroesen’s wicket, Hampton dominating with a very rapid 19*, but his caution is to no avail as Ferdi Vink returns to trap him in front for 70. Shankar joins Hampton.

 Salland vs Kampong  14:58
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Salland : 13-0 (1 over)
They’re back on at Deventer and Salland look to be in a hurry, Ganesan opening and takes three boundaries off Nana in the first over. Machiavello opening with him, Roy sharing the new ball.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  14:57
Punjab : 279-5 (46 overs)
Sikander and Yasir Usman cashing in now, pushing on towards 300 against De Leede and Van Beek.

 VRA Amserdam vs HCC  14:53
VRA : 5-0 (2 overs)
Still drizzling here, mood is pretty fatalistic now. Radar suggests things are unlikely to improve for hours.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  14:50
Punjab : 255-5 (43.5 overs)
And another, as Asad tries to lap Kingma round the corner and guides the ball straight to De Grooth at backward square. He goes for 65, Yasir Usman in now.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  14:46
Punjab : 248-4 (42.4 overs)
Another one goes at ‘t Zomercomplex with Nidamanuru, having pulled a De Leede bouncer over midwicket for six, holing out to Musa Ahmad at long on off the next. He goes for a 10-ball 17, replaced by Sikander Zulfiqar, Asad on 63*.

  Excelsior ’20 vs HBS   14:43
Excelsior : 153-4 (34.5 overs)
And it’s De Mey who gets the wicket, Kroesen caught by Ryan Klein for 46. Verhagen’s on 70*, joined now by Brett Hampton. He and Kroesen added 81 for the fourth wicket.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  14:34
Punjab : 230-3 (40.4 overs)
Vandiar goes for 88, caught at about the fifth juggle by Mohit Hingorani as he chases a Malan delivery down the leg side. 154 the partnership. Teja Nidamanuru joins Asad, who’s on 62*

  Excelsior ’20 vs HBS   14:30
Excelsior : 146-3 (32 overs)
This has turned into a very valuable partnership for Excelsior: Verhagen now on 66*, Kroesen on 43*. HBS really need a breakthrough here.

 Salland vs Kampong  14:15
Kampong : 134 all out (39.3 overs)
Briggs’ departure precipitated a rapid collapse in the end, Ganesan and Barathi spinning out the tail in quick time. Ganesan delivers the final blow, Swanepoel caught for one to complete his five-fer. 37-5 in 9.3 his figures in the end. 135 will be the target.

 Dosti Amsterdam vs ACC  14:25
Dosti : 41-0 (4/38 overs)
The rain’s reached Drieburg, interrupting Dosti’s progress.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  14:24
Punjab : 210-2 (39 overs)
Fifty for Asad Zulfiqar as well, and the partnership’s up to 134. Kingma back from the Harbour End as De Leede searches for a wicket, but it makes no difference to Punjab’s progress. Vandiar on 77*, Asad on 58*

 Dosti Amsterdam vs ACC  14:15
Dosti : 34-0 (3/38 overs)
Raja and Ahmed start at a gallop, two fours and two sixes for the latter and a couple of boundaries for his partner as Dosti make a very solid start.

 VRA Amsterdam vs HCC  14:10
VRA : 5-0 (2 overs)
Scratch that, they’re coming off.

 VRA Amsterdam vs HCC  14:10
VRA : 5-0 (2 overs)
And we’re underway. Hidde Overdijk and Bijloos share the new ball, Singh and Rasool opening the batting. And right on cue the rain returns, getting heavier too. They’re doggedly staying out for now though.

VOC Rotterdam vs Sparta 188  14:07
Sparta : 83 all out (30.1 overs)
VOC : 84-1 (7.5 overs)
Edwards clubs Bukhari for a straight six, then cuts the next ball behind point for four more. Gohil into the attack and O’Dowd sweeps his second ball to the rope in front of square. Three balls later and clears the leg to swing him away over midwicket, the slog-sweeps for four more.. Noor from the other end finds a consolation wicket as O’Dowd cuts uppishly and held at deep backward point. Smit in, and two balls later it’s done, Edwards pushes to cover and comedy misfield allows three. Pretty much sums up Sparta’s day.

 Dosti Amsterdam vs ACC  14:06
Dosti : 5-0 (1/38 overs)
Mees van Vliet starts, bowling to Rahil Ahmed, who opens with Waqas Raza. Five wides the only score.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  13:36
Punjab : 170-2 (34 overs)
Vandiar goes to his half-century with a six off Shariz, following it up with a four through extra cover. He’s on 61* now, with Asad on 37*. Shariz has gone for 46 from five overs as Punjab pile on the pressure.

  Excelsior ’20 vs HBS   14:00
Excelsior : 111-3 (25 overs)

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  13:36
Punjab : 133-2 (30 overs)

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  13:36
Punjab : 106-2 (27 overs)
Leg-spin from both ends, as Shariz Ahmad comes on from the Equestrian Centre End. He goes for just a single from his first, and Boissevain concedes a couple of singles and a two. Asad now on 24*, Vandiar on 11*

  Excelsior ’20 vs HBS   13:28
Excelsior : 72-3 (15.5 overs)

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  13:25
Punjab : 101-2 (25 overs)
Punjab reach the halfway mark with Asad and Vandiar still in occupation, and they take a drink.

VOC Rotterdam vs Sparta 188  13:24
Sparta : 83 all out (30.1 overs)
Another for Hoornweg as Balwantsingh miscues to long on. Saleem last man but he won’t face a ball as Snoep is stumped off Smit in the next over.

  Excelsior ’20 vs HBS   13:14
Excelsior : 71-2 (13 overs)
Klein strikes again, trapping Heggelman in front for 25. Lorenzo Ingram in to join Verhagen, who’s on 35*.

  Excelsior ’20 vs HBS   13:10
Excelsior : 67-1 (11.4 overs)
It transpires that there is, after all, cricket happening at Thurlede, where Ryan Klein removed Tim Etman with the sixth ball of the match, caught by brother Kyle, but Tom Heggelman and Roel Verhagen are rebuilding, now on 22* and 34* respectively.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  12:52
Punjab : 76-2 (16.3 overs)
De Leede has continued to come in for some hammer, but he has his revenge when Myburgh gets under a lofted drive and Engelbrecht covers a lot of ground to take the catch at straightish long on. Myburgh gone for 41, and Jonathan Vandiar joins Asad at the crease.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  12:38
Punjab : 60-1 (12 overs)

VOC Rotterdam vs Sparta 188  12:36
Sparta : 54-5 (17 overs)
Bukhari down the track and aims a huge swing at Seelaar, misses, Edwards does the rest. Singh joins Noor.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  12:32
Punjab : 47-0 (10 overs)
Jappie takes a liking to De Leede, lofting him over mid-on for four, then off the back foot through midwicket for another, then tucked away for a third. To be fair, the Voorburg bowlers are operating off short runs. Andre Malan from the Equestrian Centre End, tidy enough until Myburgh hits him for back-to-back boundaries. He’s now on 26*, Jappie on 16*.

 Salland vs Kampong  12:30
Kampong : 79-3 (20 overs)
Cooper and Briggs still together for Kampong meanwhile, as Cooper brings up the fifty partnership putting Elam Barathi across the rope on the final ball of the 20th.

Still a steady drizzle at VRA, early lunch at 1pm. Mood is less optimistic now.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  12:22
Punjab : 27-0 (8 overs)
Myburgh again clips Kingma off his toes, high over backward square for six, then crashes him through the covers for four. And Jappie’s off and running, hitting Van Beek back over his head for a triple. De Leede on now from the Harbour End.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  12:09
Punjab : 8-0 (5 overs)
They’re back on at ‘t Zomercomplex, with Van Beek and Kingma pretty much in charge at the moment.

VOC Rotterdam vs Sparta 188  11:52
Sparta : 39-3 (10.3 overs)
Arnav Jain into the attack, but not for long as the rain arrives. Covers on. Gonna be one of those days…

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  11:49
Punjab : 7-0 (3.4 overs)
The covers are coming off at ‘t Zomercomplex.

VOC Rotterdam vs Sparta 188  11:46
Sparta : 37-3 (10 overs)
Gohil and Bukhari rebuilding for Sparta, still Niaz and Fletcher for the hosts.

 Salland vs Kampong  11:45
Kampong : 30-3 (10 overs)
Reinder Lubbers strikes again, Malik caught behind for 3. Tom Cooper makes his way to the crease.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  11:29
Punjab : 7-0 (3.4 overs)
Just the one scoring shot so far, a sweetly-timed six over backward square by Myburgh off Kingma. But it’s raining at ‘t Zomercomplex now, and the covers are on.

 Salland vs Kampong  11:29
Kampong : 21-2 (6 overs)
Kampong in trouble early too, the Lubbers brothers removing the openers. Briggs and Malik in the middle now.

  Excelsior ’20 vs HBS   11:27
The usual proviso is ‘if there’s no more rain’. Which we understand there now is. Rain, that is.

VOC Rotterdam vs Sparta 188  11:25
Sparta : 7-3 (4 overs)
Sparta stumble out of the blocks at Hazelaarweg, Mamoon Latif pinned LBW by Niaz six balls in, then Khalid Ahmadi is cleaned up by Fletcher two balls later. Fletcher strikes again in his next, Raza caught behind for four.

  Excelsior ’20 vs HBS   11:21
At Thurlede HBS have won the toss and also chosen to bowl first. The start is scheduled for 11:40, we gather.

 Punjab Rotterdam vs VCC  11:18
Punjab : 0-0 (1 over)
They’re under way at ‘t Zomercomplex, where Bas de Leede called correctly and elected to field. Viv Kingma starts with a maiden from the Harbour End to Steph Myburgh, who’s opening with Rushdie Jappie. Logan van Beek from the Equestrian Centre End.

 Salland vs Kampong  11:01
Kampong : 0-0 (0 overs)
Dry out East too it seems, Salland won the toss and put Kampong in to bat. Tom Cooper making his debut for Kampong today of course, Ratha Alphonse and Vikram Chaturvedi opening, Victor Lubbers takes the new ball.

  Excelsior ’20 vs HBS   11:00
We understand that the toss has been delayed at Thurlede, with an inspection scheduled for 11:15.

VOC Rotterdam vs Sparta 188  10:51
Toss has happened at Hazelaarweg however, bit drier down south. Sparta win and have sent their hosts out to field. One imagines VOC won’t be wild about that after a long if victorious day at T20 Finals day yesterday.

 VRA Amserdam vs HCC  10:50
Covers still on at the Bos in anticipation of another brief shower, no toss as yet. Pretty damp out there but the mood is optimistic.

 Bertus de Jong  10:49
Morning all, bit of a grim one I’m afraid but hopefully will clear up this afternoon. Some big games today so all will be keen not to have the rain have it’s way, though some keener than others perhaps…

Rod Lyall 10:48
A very good morning/afternoon/evening, everyone. A bit later than usual, but as yet no news of any tosses on a grey Sunday morning.
