The Topklasse League Phase table after Round 12
Rod Lyall 18:30
So Punjab extend their lead to nine points and Voorburg move into second place, ahead of VOC on net run rate. HBS push Excelsior out of the top four, and HCC leapfrog them as well. It looks as if, barring a spectacular turnaround, VRA may be out of the play-off race, but with six games left, who knows? Sparta’s amazing renaissance today suggests that anything is possible. Tables, scorecards, photos and review will follow in due course. In the meantime, this is Rod Lyall saying goodnight, and stay safe.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 18:20
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 221 all out (44.4 overs)
The final pair get the deficit below 100, but then Ruyters is caught by Bukhari off Singh, who ends with four for 31. Three for 43 for Saleem. Jain’s left not out on 46*, and that’s a remarkable win for a resurgent Sparta. They’ve been showing hints of this in their past few games, but this is the first time they’ve put it all together.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 18:11
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 212-9 (42.3 overs)
Van Wingerden goes, caught by Tarr off Singh for 11, bringing last man Bart Ruyters to the crease. Jain on 42* now.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 18:04
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 205-8 (41 overs)
Meanwhile, though, the game meanders on, like a turbid river reluctant to reach the sea. Jain’s gone to 38*, and young Van Wingerden’s on 8, including what may have been his first Topklasse boundary.
Rod Lyall 18:00
As this game drifts slowly to an anticlimactic end, this is the moment that I observe that VOC, like ACC earlier, would have had intermediate targets to bat for if we had bonus points. 253 (80% of 316) might have been beyond VOC, but ACC could at least have been looking for 100 (50% of 198). It would make games more interesting, not less.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 17:53
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 192-8 (38.1 overs)
Fletcher holes out to Hoornweg at long on, and the end approaches. Van Wingerden in to join Jain, on 33.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 17:42
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 85 all out (49.1 overs)
Navjit Singh spares us the final five balls by nicking off Arya with the first ball of the 50th over, for which we are all grateful. ACC bowled out 113 runs short, though of course the game has been gone for ages.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 17:41
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 175-7 (35 overs)
Ibrahimkhil into the attack, and he gets Rohan Malik caught behind by Raza. Jain’s on 29*, batting now with Fletcher.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 17:36
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 182-4 (47.2 overs)
Six for Nieuwoudt off Turmaine levels the scores, and then he turns the next delivery into the leg side for the winning four. He finishes with 37*, Engelbrecht 59*. A good contest, but VRA’s late collapse made Voorburg’s task a lot easier than it might, or should, have been.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 17:35
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 82-9 (46 overs)
Van Vliet’s patience is at an end. Gets off the mark with a thick edge off Vink for two and is caught next ball. Zinesh Master to face his first ball in Topklasse, which he blocks.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 17:31
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 165-4 (46 overs)
Fifty for Engelbrecht, and now it’s 14 needed off four.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 17:29
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 164-6 (32.5 overs)
Three for Saleem, as he bowls Schoonheim for 11. Ayaaz Durrani joins Jain, but he’s bowled by Manminder Singh. Jain’s on 27*, but it’s only a matter of time for VOC now.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 17:27
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 79-8 (43 overs)
Shades of Annemarie Tanke in van Vliet’s innings here, he’s faced 31 deliveries without scoring now.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 17:25
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 157-4 (44 overs)
VRA making Voorburg fight for every run, and now they need 22 off six. But it’s hard to see the visitors winning it in a strangle.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 17:22
Excelsior : 149 all out (44 overs)
Punjab : 153-7 (28.1 overs)
Irfan levels the scores, and then he hits the winning boundary off the first ball of Roelfsema’s next. Punjab march on, while Excelsior will be looking nervously at the other results.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 17:20
Excelsior : 149 all out (44 overs)
Punjab : 148-7 (27.4 overs)
Heggelman returns and removes Usman, LBW for 28, but with only two runs needed you have to think it’s too late. Irfan ul Haq joins Tariq.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 17:17
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 79-8 (39 overs)
Another maiden for de Mey, then van Vliet blocks out an over of Klein. Thrilling it is not. Adil Ahmed into the attack, maiden for him too. Stephan Vink back.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 17:16
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 150-4 (41 overs)
It’s pretty tense at Westvliet as well, although VRA are in serious need of a couple of wickets. Voorburg need 39 off nine overs, but with Engelbrecht on 47* and Nieuwoudt on 17* they should get home comfortably enough.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 17:12
Excelsior : 149 all out (44 overs)
Punjab : 134-6 (26 overs)
Saqib Zulfiqar’s gone as well, caught by Ingram off Roelfsema, and this has the makings of a low-scoring thriller. Six for Usman off Baker swings things back Punjab’s way, thought: 16 runs, 4 wickets the equation.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 17:03
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 136-4 (27 overs)
Game, set and match at the Bermweg, you’d think as O’Dowd, on 74, slashes at Hoornweg and is caught by Raza. Jain’s still there and is joined by Jelte Schoonheim, but it would take something extraordinary for VOC to make 171 from here.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 17:02
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 76-8 (34 overs)
And another down, Napoleon on the drive and a thick outside edge off Stephan Vink falls to Klein at third. Arya in.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 16:58
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 76-7 (33 overs)
New gloves does for Knoll. De Mey back into the attack and he looks to go over long on but can’t clear him. Klein takes the catch, Napoleon in.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 16:56
Excelsior : 149 all out (44 overs)
Punjab : 118-5 (22 overs)
Baker returns to trap Sikander Zulfiqar in front for 12, and now it’s Yasir Usman and Saqib Zulfiqar who are looking for the 32 runs Punjab need. Excelsior looking for five wickets.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 16:53
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 73-6 (32 overs)
Raza looks to hit out now, but doesn’t get a hold of the slog off Boddendijk and that comes down for de Mey tracking across from square leg. Knoll takes the opportunity to switch his gloves, perhaps not been paying attention today. Alves in, and almost immediately out again as he chips a return catch to Vink. Van Vliet in.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 16:44
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 116-4 (31 overs)
Dutt goes, caught and bowled by Luuk Hartsink for 41, but Engelbrecht is looking menacing, and is joined now by Nieuwoudt.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 16:33
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 65-4 (29 overs)
Knoll is showing a bit of enterprise, he’s on to 24 now with a smattering of boundaries and shots that would have been boundaries on any other ground, but 200 looks absurdly remote from here. Stephan Vink has taken over from Ferdi now.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 16:43
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 113-3 (23 overs)
Fifty for O’Dowd, but VOC are a long way off the pace. Teams have chased 300 in the past, but not often. As long as O’Dowd’s there, though, you can’t write them off. He’s on 58* now.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 16:36
Excelsior : 149 all out (44 overs)
Punjab : 97-4 (17 overs)
And to prove the point, Rens van Troost drops one short to Nidamanuru, who can’t get over it and is caught by Roelfsema at point. They take a drink on the strength of it.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 16:33
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 55-4 (25 overs)
Full toss from Vink almost brings a wicket as Knoll drives it back over his head at a catchable height, but it bursts through his hands. Boddendjik from the other end.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 16:30
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 101-3 (27 overs)
Engelbrecht 28*, Dutt 30*, and the partnership worth a crucial 59. Turmaine still from the Paddock End, Singh now from the other.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 16:26
Excelsior : 149 all out (44 overs)
Punjab : 86-3 (14 overs)
Asad’s gone, caught by Luuk Kroesen off Stubbs for 15, and Nidamanuru is joined by Saqib Zulfiqar. Punjab could do with a steadying partnership here, because Excelsior aren’t out of this.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 16:25
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 43-4 (23 overs)
Singh continues after drinks and the break seems to have broken Zaidi’s concentration, and he spoons it up to mid on four balls into the over. Raza in. This chase going nowhere slowly.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 16:20
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 82-3 (16.5 overs)
Van Baren doesn’t stay long before becoming a second victim for Saleem, and then Tim de Kok, trying to put Faisal Iqbal into the Schollebos, succeeds only in holing out to Max Hoornweg at long on. O’Dowd’s on 38*, and it’s looking as if VOC’s chances depend on a big hundred from him.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 16:17
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 79-3 (23 overs)
Borren into the attack indeed, but so far steady, parsimonius even, without being truly dangerous. Turmaine, too, isn’t giving much away, but with 100 required it’s wickets VRA need. Engelbrecht 15*, Dutt 21*.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 16:04
Excelsior : 149 all out (44 overs)
Punjab : 66-2 (9.4 overs)
Stubbs on for Baker, and he’s instantly despatched in front of square for six by Myburgh. That takes him to 49*, and two balls later he play him through the gully to go to a 29-ball 53*. Next ball, he’s bowled. In normal circumstances a leggie might regard that as a fair return on investment, but not perhaps when the target’s only 150.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 16:01
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 61-1 (13.4 overs)
And there it is, as Edwards drives Saleem in the air and is caught by Mamoon Latif at straightish extra cover for 31. Van Baren joins O’Dowd, who’s on 25*.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 16:00
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 28-3 (17 overs)
Kumar skips down the track to Singh and swipes at air, Scholte makes no mistake this time. It is observed that he’s the second bat today to fall immediately after sending for new gloves. Knoll in.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 15:57
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 63-3 (17 overs)
They take a drink at Westvliet, with Engelbrecht and Dutt making steady progress against Singh and Turmaine. Time for a Borren intervention, methinks.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 15:54
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 52-0 (12 overs)
Still tidy from Sparta as Usman Saleem replaces Hoornweg, but they will need a breakthrough soon. O’Dowd 18*, Edwards 29*, looking menacing.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 15:50
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 21-2 (14 overs)
Maiden for de Mey on Kumar, maiden for Klein on Zaidi. Just two runs in the last five overs, pressure building. Another maiden for de Mey, and now the first bowling change, Ferdi Vink replaces Klein. One leg bye to add to the total but nothing off the bat. Double change as Singh replaces de Mey.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 15:49
Excelsior : 149 all out (44 overs)
Punjab : 42-1 (6.1 overs)
Baker replaces Ingram, just a single off the over, but it’s Heggelman who gets the breakthrough, yorking Rehmat Zulfiqar for 8. Asad Zulfiqar joins Myburgh, who’s on 33*.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 15:43
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 42-3 (14 overs)
A big wicket for Singh, as De Leede’s given leg-before for 24. He was well forward, but effectively yorked and the umpire didn’t hesitate. Dutt in at five.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 15:39
Excelsior : 149 all out (44 overs)
Punjab : 33-0 (4 overs)
Myburgh goes after Ingram: 4-4-4-6 off his second over. He’s on 25*, off 15 deliveries. Heggelman continues.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 15:37
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 32-0 (8 overs)
VOC started needing six and a half an over, but Sparta will be well aware that if these two get settled the runs will soon begin to flow. And they’re looking pretty comfortable against Sparta’s two best bowlers.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 15:35
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 19-2 (9 overs)
Klein beat Zaidi’s bat twice in two balls, both time HBS convinced there was an edge, I thought the second a better shout than the first, the umpire didn’t rate either. De Mey continues from the other end, beats Zaidi on the charge but Scholte can’t collect cleanly for the stumping.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 15:31
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 33-2 (10 overs)
Singh replaces Abid from the Paddock End; Engelbrecht yet to get off the mark, but De Leede’s gone to 18*.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 15:28
Excelsior : 149 all out (44 overs)
Punjab : 4-0 (1 over)
Back at the Zomercomplex, Heggelman bowling to Steph Myburgh from the Equestrian Centre End. Five dots, then a fluent drive between midwicket and mid-on for four. Ingram on immediately from the Harbour End. Excelsior excel at defending low totals, but this is a big, big ask.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 15:23
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 13-2 (5 overs)
And Hosur doesn’t last, drives de Mey low and wide of cover next over where Visée takes a cracking catch diving to his right just inches off the ground. Zaidi in, goes back first ball to defend and the ball bounces inches from the stumps.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 15:23
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 17-0 (4 overs)
Solid start for O’Dowd and Edwards against Bukhari and Max Hoornweg.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 15:19
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 12-1 (4 overs)
And a big wicket first ball of Kelin’s next, Kothari fencing at one and edged to Walbrugh at slip, fine diving catch. Hosur at three.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 15:17
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
VOC : 2-0 (1 over)
VOC begin their marathon chase with Max O’Dowd and Scott Edwards as usual. They need these two to make a substantial dent in that total.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 15:15
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 13-2 (6 overs)
This time it’s a shout for caught behind off De Leede, not given again. But Gunning takes that one on the chin. You can feel the relief from De Leede as an edge fine gets him to the other end. Gunning looking really hostile here. But it’s Abid who gets the wicket, Hingorani caught behind by Lees. Sybrandt Engelbrecht joins his captain.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 15:15
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
ACC : 8-0 (3 overs)
Spin to start here, Julian de Mey opening the bowling, Kothari and Kumar for ACC. Kothari off the mark second ball but it’s been all dots since then. Klein from the other end with a maiden on Kothari, then de Mey might have had Kumar we think, maybe gloved looking to leave, beats the keeper and they run one. I thought it came off his pad myself but no leg by signalled so has to go down as a chance. Lengthy discussions on the field too, not really sure what about. Kothari steps down next ball and lofts that up over long on and drops just over the rope.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 15:08
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 7-1 (4 overs)
Hingorani survives a massive appeal for leg-before off Gunning, who can’t believe it’s not given. Next ball’s a repeat, but umpire Hancock remains unmoved. A Fred Trueman moment in the offing, one suspects. A maiden from Abid at the other end.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 14:56
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 4-1 (1.4 overs)
And Abid gets De Grooth, who clips him to Rasool just in front of square. Bas de Leede in very early.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 14:51
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Voorburg : 4-0 (1 over)
No peace for the wicked, as they’re back already at Westvliet. Pretty sharp opening over from Quirijn Gunning, marred only by a couple of wides. He’s a bit unlucky off the final delivery, as De Grooth edges just wide of Singh at second slip. Ashir Abid from the Paddock End.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 14:41
Excelsior : 149 all out (44 overs)
But that’s it, as Baker flicks Irfan off his pads to Saqib Zulfiqar at midwicket and goes for 21. Wickets shared for Punjab, in another fine team effort.
Bertus de Jong 14:38
Meanwhile in the Hoofdklasse, which is finally underway, Singapore’s Tim David has announced his arrival in the Netherlands with a score of 152 off 95 balls for Quick Haag against Hermes DVS.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 14:26
HBS : 198-7 (50 overs)
Boddendijk almost gone, down the track to van Vliet who collects and shies at the stumps, but just misses. Tough return chance dropped next ball before Boddendijk gets off strike driving straight. Hasty couple off an inside edge brings two more. Raza will bowl the last, outside edge brings one off the first ball, cut out to the sweeper for another. Boddendijk down the track driving and a misfield allows two, and then two byes off the next. Boddendijk advances again and edges across the stumps, two more. Driven out toward long off on the last ball, they settle for a single for some reason. Two short of 200 in the end, ACC will be happy to have held them to that but it’s a lot of runs given the slow pitch and slower outfield.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 14:37
Excelsior : 149-9 (44 overs)
Irfan ul Haq on from the Equestrian Centre End, with Bhatti continuing from the other. Baker and Roelfsema intent on eking out every run, hoping to give themselves and their fellow-bowlers something to bowl at. So far, they’re doing pretty well.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 14:30
Excelsior : 135-9 (41.3 overs)
Bhatti returns to bowl Heggelman for 10. Klaas Roelfsema the last man.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 14:27
Sparta : 316-8 (50 overs)
More reward for Van Baren, as Raza is bowled for 12. Usman Saleem in to join Manminder, but he’s caught by Jain at point trying to hit Fletcher onto the Bermweg. Not of it’s elegant or pretty, but Manminder and Nasrat Ibrahimkhil squeeze every run, the former even running himself out attempting a bye to the keeper. An edged four off the final delivery completes VOC’s misery. Who’da thunk it?
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 14:26
HBS : 184-7 (48 overs)
Klein goes chasing a wider ball from Raza, feathered through to the keeper, and a direct hit does for Ferdi Vink next ball as they look for a risky one. And a team hat trick! Raza turns on past the bat as Mason reaches for it, over-balances and the bails are off behind him. Might have been four in four but another edge evades the keeper, Boddendijk survives and they steal one.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 14:16
HBS : 184-7 (48 overs)
Klein goes chasing a wider ball from Raza, feathered through to the keeper, and a direct hit does for Ferdi Vink next ball as they look for a risky one. And a team hat trick! Raza turns on past the bat as Mason reaches for it, over-balances and the bails are off behind him. Might have been four in four but another edge evades the keeper, Boddendijk survives and they steal one.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 14:14
Sparta : 303-5 (48 overs)
Raza and Manminder Singh, on the other hand, can bat with a lot more freedom, and suddenly Raza’s in a situation in which he can give his attacking instincts full rein. And he does, as does Manminder.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 14:10
Excelsior : 109-8 (36 overs)
Heggelman and Baker digging in, trying to rebuild after that mid-order slump. Lots of overs left, but they can’t afford to take too many chances.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 14:06
HBS : 180-4 (46 overs)
Looks like those two wickets have staved off the acceleration at least, just the one boundary since. Klein and Mason have four overs to try to get as far north of 200 as the outfield will let them.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 14:05
VRA : 178 all out (46.5 overs)
Boissevain claims the last two, to finish with four for 38. Disappointing outcome for VRA, after being on 140 for two at one stage.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 14:02
Sparta : 275-5 (45.5 overs)
And there’s Tarr’s hundred, his second of the season, as he steers Fletcher to third man boundary. Next ball he makes to drive into the covers but is bowled for 103.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 13:59
Sparta : 269-4 (45.1 overs)
Latif doesn’t stay long, caught behind by Edwards for 2. Tarr on 99*, as Ali Raza comes to the crease.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 13:54
HBS : 160-4 (43 overs)
Kothari still and a huge shout for LBW on Singh as he misses a dabbed reverse, but the umpire remains unmoved. Turns one past Mason’s bat two balls later but he keeps his foot grounded. HBS looking to kick on now but Singh holes out off Arya with 7 overs to go, will be disappointed not to cash in at the death after the hard work he’s done, but another admirable knock from him nonetheless. He goes for 60, Klein joins Mason as the first light drops of rain are detected.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 13:54
VRA : 170-8 (44 overs)
Dutt gets Lees LBW, and VRA have lost four wickets for 7 runs. Ashir Abid joins Quirijn Gunning in the middle.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 13:52
Sparta : 261-3 (44 overs)
It’s Van Baren who deservedly gets the breakthrough as Bukhari, on 96, doesn’t jam down on a full delivery in time and is bowled. The stand was worth 196, and Tarr is on 93*. Joined now by Mamoon Latif.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 13:48
Excelsior : 109-8 (30 overs)
Or maybe not. Three big overs for Punjab, as Nidamanuru removes Ingram for 38 and Etman for 22 in successive overs, and in between Sikander Zulfiqar bowls Rens van Troost. Tom Heggelman and Umar Baker together now, but Excelsior in deep, deep trouble.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 13:44
HBS : 149-3 (40 overs)
Kothari finds the breakthrough, Walbrugh on the sweep and top edged high into the on side, Zaidi under it and makes no mistake. Walbrugh gone for 73, Mason joins Singh, who’s on 54*.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 13:41
VRA : 164-7 (40.5 overs)
Nieuwoudt back from the Pavilion End, Shirase Rasool slashes outside off, and Hingorani takes a very sharp catch. Mitch Lees in to join Borren. Who goes next ball, getting under a lofted drive off Philippe Boissevain and caught by Kamal at mid-off. And Jekyll is back, as Leon Turmaine is bowled four balls later.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 13:40
HBS : 145-2 (39 overs)
Walbrugh dropped again there I reckon, sounded like an edge off Arya but the keeper can’t hold it. Catchable again two balls later at point but a tougher chance and he can’t get down to it. Kothari back at the other end, Walbrugh sweeps him over backward square for four.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 13:36
Sparta : 225-2 (40 overs)
A very tidy over from Van Baren confines Tarr to a single, but it’s wickets VOC desperately need. Tarr on 86*, Bukhari 67*. The final ten overs could be very tough indeed unless the Bloodhounds can get a wicket very soon.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 13:30
HBS : 134-2 (36 overs)
Hundred partnership up in the 34th, and Singh taking the role of Aggressor now, slog-sweeps Napoleon up over his shoulder for six over backward square. Raza still at the other end, he’s swept fine by Singh for a hard run three and a well earned half century, outfield has saved about 40 runs now I’d say. Walbrugh still there on 65*, heads going down in the field.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 13:30
Excelsior : 93-5 (27 overs)
Maybe Niels Etman IS the man, as Excelsior battle on. Ingram’s moved on to 34*, and Etman’s on 10*. Long way to go, though.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 13:25
VRA : 150-4 (37 overs)
De Leede gets a wicket, but it’s Szwarczynski who goes, bowled for 55. Jack Balbirnie joins Borren. And departs, caught down the leg side by Hingorani off De Leede for 6. That’s the cur for a drink.
HCC vs Dosti-United 13:18
Dosti : 63 all out (21.2 overs)
HCC : 67-2 (9.5 overs)
That, however, ended the similarity, as there was no further success for Dosti. Fewer than ten overs needed for Staal and Crowley to knock off the remaining runs, finishing on 32* and 17* respectively. That’ll be some NRR they have after their last two games!
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 13:12
HBS : 110-2 (33 overs)
Walbrugh brings up his fifty chopping Napoleon through gully for a couple, has been an excellent knock from him in the circumstances, goes aerial for the first time in Napoleon’s next lifting him over long on for a one-bouncer. Singh too has done well, He’s into the thirties, partnership now worth 94. Lot of nonsense going on out there now, talk of a no ball as square leg reckons the keeper had his gloves in front of the wicket. Lengthy discussions, nothing comes of it.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 13:14
Sparta : 186-2 (35 overs)
Now it’s up to 120, as Tarr and Bukhari pile on the agony. Tarr’s raced to 71*, with Bukhari on 46*, and VOC could be facing a really big total here.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 13:10
Excelsior : 72-5 (22 overs)
Sikander Zulfiqar gets into the act, getting Etman caught by Nidamanuru for 10. Then Joost Kroesen falls to Hussain, caught by Bhatti without scoring. Ingram’s still there on 26*, but he needs someone to stay with him. Is Niels Etman the man?
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 13:04
VRA : 133-2 (32 overs)
Having gone to 50 Scully doesn’t add to his score, caught behind by Mohit Hingorani off Dutt, but Szwarczynski has completed yet another half-century, and is joined now by Peter Borren. De Leede’s back from the Paddock End to try his skills against the Amsterdamse Boss.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 13:01
HBS : 97-2 (30 overs)
Raza brings himself on in place of Master, but Walbrugh and Singh have settled into the task nicely, HBS closing in on triple figures here. If they can double this by the break as the old adage suggests they’ll be very pleased. 200 will take some getting on this ground.
HCC vs Dosti-United 12:57
Dosti : 63 all out (21.2 overs)
HCC : 19-2 (4 overs)
Déja vu all over again for HCC, who have lost a couple of quick wickets as they again chase a total of 60-plus. First Musa Ahmad’s pinned in front by Masood without scoring, and then Farid Hoseinbaks bowls Boris Gorlee for 6. Damian Crowley joins Tonny Staal at the crease.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 12:55
Sparta : 152-2 (29 overs)
Bart Ruyters into the attack for VOC, who are clearly missing Bobby Hanif and Pieter Seelaar. It doesn’t do much to stem the flow of runs, though, and Bukhari moves on to 39*, with Tarr on 44*. The stand’s worth 87 at the moment.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 12:49
Excelsior : 57-3 (17 overs)
They’re back at the Zomercomplex, and Stubbs has gone, caught behind off Saqib Zulfiqar for 14. Ingram’s on 22*, and has been joined by Tim Etman.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 12:47
HBS : 77-2 (26 overs)
Young Zinesh Master into the attack, got a five-fer on debut against Dosti last week, this a rather sterner test for the 16 year-old. Six off the bat and a wide from his first over, Walbrugh putting a lot of effort behind his shots now trying to push through the outfield, with little succes. Napoleon on at the other end now.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 12:46
VRA : 119-1 (28 overs)
A very valuable partnership developing for VRA at Westvliet, with Scully now on 49* and Szwarczynski on 43*. And a push into the covers gives Scully his half-century. Dutt and Sajjad Kamal looking for a much-needed breakthrough.
HCC vs Dosti-United 12:34
Dosti : 63 all out (21.2 overs)
A Michelle for Ollie Klaus, as he bowls Jatin Kumar to end the Dosti innings; he has five for 13 from 26 deliveries. 19 of Dosti’s 63 came from extras, only Tewarie reached double figures.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 12:30
HBS : 57-2 (22 overs)
Walburgh gets away with that, edges van Vliet straight to first slip where a regulation chance is shelled. Fifty up meanwhile, Walbrugh has 27 and Singh 11. Outfield has saved about 25 runs so far by my count, two more there as a well struck pull through midwicket holds up three yards inside the rope. Walbrugh repreived again in Kothari’s next as a thick edge eludes both keeper and slip. Frustration building for everyone out there now.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 12:30
Sparta : 110-2 (22 overs)
Tarr on 24* and Bukhari on 18* are looking to cash in on Sparta’s excellent start, still facing the spin of Jain and O’Dowd.
HCC vs Dosti-United 12:27
Dosti : 60-9 (20 overs)
It’s all gone very quickly at De Diepput, with two more wickets for Klaus and one for Floyd. Klaus now has four for 12 from four overs. Looks like another very early finish for HCC.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 12:23
VRA : 87-1 (20 overs)
It seems that it’s VRA’s Mr Hyde XI that’s turned up this week, after their Dr Jekyll performance last week. Scully has moved on to 39*, with Szwarczynski on 24*. Stef Mulder and Aryan Dutt operating for Voorburg at the moment.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 12:22
HBS : 47-2 (20 overs)
Walburgh slashes van Vliet up over the cordon after drinks, but he’ll have to settle for two again, any contact with this outfield seems to stop the ball dead. Slow going out there. Kothari still at the other end, and Singh finally finds the rope, dropped short and powered through the recently vacated deep midwicket area toward his team mates.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 12:17
Excelsior : 47-2 (14.3 overs)
There’s a shower at the Zomercomplex, and the covers are coming on. Ingram on 20*, Stubbs 11*.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 12:15
Sparta : 79-2 (17 overs)
A double setback for Sparta: Iqbal trapped LBW for 47, sweeping at Max O’Dowd, and in the following over Deol is caught in the covers by Tim de Kok off Van Baren for 18. But Garnett Tarr and Mudassar Bukhari come to the wicket with some runs on the board.
HCC vs Dosti-United 11:52
Dosti : 50-6 (17 overs)
My esteemed colleague having pointed out the wrinkles of the scoring system, I can tell you it was Firohan, but he’s gone in the meantime, caught by Felix Vecchi off Klaus without scoring. Dosti’s slide continues, as Nizarul Sayed joins Masood.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 12:07
HBS : 36-2 (17 overs)
Even by ACC standards the outfield is incredibly slow today. Walbrugh glances van Vliet down leg and it doesn’t even leave the circle. Singh and Wlabrugh’s textbook batting has not proved terribly productive as yet, but ACC’s disciplined bowling hasn’t allowed anything more adventurous. Kothari completes a maiden to Walbrugh, Singh edges van Vliet between keeper and slip on the cut for one, next ball Walburgh whips him away through midwicket but the ball holds up inside the rope again.
HCC vs Dosti-United 12:05
Dosti : 49-5 (16 overs)
Tewarie’s gone as well, caught by Trijzelaar off Klaus for 20, and Waheed Masood is now batting with an F Hoseinbaks. But whether it’s Farid or Firohan of that name it’s impossible to tell; the KNCB’s new scoring system has many virtues, but distinguishing between S Zulfiqars, M Hussains, or F Hoseinbakses ain’t one of them. So I’m afraid you’ll have to live with the uncertainty.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 11:58
Excelsior : 41-2 (13 overs)
Tariq and Bhatti still plugging away for Punjab, and largely keeping Ingram and Stubbs quiet, although when Tariq drops a little short Ingram pulls him away square for four. He’s on 20*, Stubbs on 5*. Mubashar Hussain on now from the Harbour End.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 11:55
HBS : 30-2 (13 overs)
Van Vliet replaces Arya, ACC looking uncharacteristically sloppy in the field at the moment, couple of misfields result in his over going for a couple more than it should have. Double change as Kothari replaces Kumar, big shout for LBW on Singh as he looks to whip one off his pads but maybe just sliding down. Similar shout in Kothari’s next, if less enthusiastic. Singh and Walbrugh has been a very productive pairing for HBS so far this season, and with Barresi back into his on-again, off-again retirement it will be a big one to break for ACC.
HCC vs Dosti-United 11:52
Dosti : 37-4 (12.3 overs)
More bad news for the visitors, as Naseri goes leg-before to Henrico Venter and Arief Hoseinbaks is run out. Tewarie’s still there on 20*.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 11:50
Sparta : 65-0 (13 overs)
Hold the front page! A fifty opening stand for Sparta, and Faisal Iqbal has moved on to 46*, still well supported with Deol on 18*. Jelte Schoonheim into the attack, but Iqbal greets him by hitting him for six.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 11:47
VRA : 56-1 (11 overs)
Nieuwoudt gets the breakthrough after Vikram Singh starts batting more freely, trapping him in front for 17. Scully’s still on 26*, and is joined by Eric Szwarczynski.
HCC vs Dosti-United 11:44
Dosti : 23-2 (10 overs)
Rahil Ahmed’s gone at De Diepput, stumped by Yash Patel off Clayton Floyd, and he’s soon followed by Mahesh Hans, caught by Damian Crowley off Hidde Overdijk. Sami Naseri and Vinoo Tewarie at the crease now, as Dosti are in trouble again.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 11:40
Excelsior : 25-2 (9 overs)
Another for Punjab as Asad Zulfiqar, standing up to Tariq now, whips the bails off and Verhagen is stumped. Tristan Stubbs joins Ingram.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 11:37
HBS : 16-2 (9 overs)
Arya has another, de Mey’s found it tough to score thus far and resorts to the sweep, he’s struck on the pads and hard to judge the line from here but ACC seem pretty surprised when that’s given. De Mey also seems somewhat, err, taken aback. Navjit Singh in to join Walbrugh.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 11:37
Sparta : 46-0 (10 overs)
This is pretty definitely Sparta’s best start of the season, with Deol now joining Iqbal in the scoring. Jain’s replaced by Dirk van Baren, but the change doesn’t immediately produce a breakthrough. Iqbal’s on 28*, Deol 18*.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 11:32
VRA : 39-0 (8 overs)
Scully escapes the leash at Westvliet. He takes three fours off De Leede’s fourth over, and then a four and a six from Nieuwoudt. He’s raced to 26*, with Singh on 8*.
HCC vs Dosti-United 11:27
Dosti : 0-0 ( overs)
Whatever’s happening at De Diepput seems to be happening behind a wall of silence, but we’ll bring you news as soon as we get any.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 11:26
Sparta : 28-0 (7 overs)
Iqbal continues his bright start, especially against Fletcher, and he’s made 26* out of 28 so far.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 11:22
HBS : 9-1 (5 overs)
Visée drives Arya handsomely through the covers for four on the first ball of the third over, and the gets off strike, ACC string a few more dots together, couple of single off the last two balls of Kumar’s next but Visée hasn’t been able to free his arms. Pressure tells on the first ball of the fifth, loose from Visée as he drives Arya straight to Alves at cover on the final ball of the fifth. Walbrugh in early.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 11:22
VRA : 12-0 (6 overs)
Both batters on the board now, each having hit a boundary into the bargain. But De Leede and Nieuwoudt are keeping it pretty tight at Westvliet.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 11:19
Excelsior : 11-1 (4 overs)
A boundary apiece for Roel Verhagen and Ingram, as they set about recovering from that early setback. Not often you see triplets at keeper and first and second slip!
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 11:12
Sparta : 10-0 (3 overs)
Faisal Iqbal, opening with Randeep Deol, goes onto the attack at the Bermweg, hitting boundaries off both Pierce Fletcher and Arnav Jain.
ACC vs HBS Craeyenhout 11:09
HBS : 1-0 (2 overs)
De Mey and Visée opening for HBS, and spin to start as Arya takes the new ball. Just one off the first. Kumar shares, he starts with a maiden.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 11:10
VRA : 1-0 (2 overs)
A very cautious start by Vikram Singh and Luke Scully, facing the Voorburg new ball attack of Bas de Leede and Karl Nieuwoudt. Just a wide, and nothing off the bat so far.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 11:06
Excelsior : 0-1 (1 over)
Tariq opens from the Equestrian Centre End, and there’s almost immediate disaster for Excelsior as Luuk Kroesen gets his second delivery high on the bat, and S Zulfiqar (possibly Saqib?) drops back from slip to snaffle the catch. Lorenzo Ingram in a lot earlier than he’d have liked, and plays out the over. Sohail Bhatti from the Harbour End.
VRA Amsterdam vs Voorburg 10:58
VRA : 0-0 ( overs)
Peter Borren also calls wrongly, and Bas de Leede decides to have a bowl.
Punjab vs Excelsior ‘20 10:54
Excelsior : 0-0 ( overs)
Wrong calls everywhere this morning: Suleiman Tariq gets to choose at the Zomercomplex, and puts Excelsior in.
Sparta 1888 vs VOC Rotterdam 10:45
Sparta : 0-0 ( overs)
Mudassar Bukhari, on the other hand, has elected to bat first at the Bermweg.
HCC vs Dosti-United 10:42
Dosti : 0-0 ( overs)
At De Diepput Tonny Staal has won the toss for HCC and invited Dosti to have a bat.
Rod Lyall 10:25
It looks as if there could be the odd splash of rain here and there today, but hopefully anything serious will stay away long enough to permit everyone to get a finish. (It’s been a beautiful day here in locked-down Sydney, if anyone’s interested.) Toss news soon.
Rod Lyall 10:15
And once again greetings and welcome to TKcricket’s unparalleled coverage of a full slate of Topklasse matches, as this season’s round robin phase reaches the two-thirds point. Bertus de Jong will be at Het Loopveld today, where ACC are taking on HBS Craeyenhout, Sander and his camera will again be out and about, and I shall as usual be keeping you up to date with all the other action. Today is something of a red-letter day in Dutch cricket, since the other men’s competitions, including the Hoofdklasse where two places in next year’s Topklasse are at stake, are getting under way for their abbreviated competition. Not to mention the Women’s T20 Cup.
