Rod Lyall 18:23
That defeat, of course, further deepens Sparta’s relegation gloom, although they will have been encouraged by an improved batting effort for the first 30 overs or so. Their remaining games are both at home, against VOC and a resurgent Dosti, while Kampong will be at home to Salland and away to VOC, and Dosti are away twice, at ACC and Sparta. ACC are now mathematically safe, so the only issue in the relegation pool is who finishes third from bottom and thus earns a herkansing against the Hoofdklasse champions. Join us next week for the next enthralling episode! For now this is Rod Lyall saying goodbye, and have a good week!
Salland vs Sparta 18:12
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 190-7 (39.2 overs)
Malik finishes with two for 22 from his ten overs. Just a single off Bukhari’s last. Ahmadi reverts to the Pavilion End. Three singles, a leg-bye and a wide leave two required. Singh back from the Railway End, and Khan hammers his second ball wide of mid-on to give Salland the victory.
Salland vs Sparta 17:58
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 179-7 (36.4 overs)
Ahmadi switches to the Railway End, and Naqash promptly lifts him over mid-off for four. Malik’s last, and he gets the vital wicket of Naqash, who hits him back over his head and holes out to Ahmadi. He made 59. Hashim Khan in. They take another drink, though Salland need only nine now.
Salland vs Sparta 17:50
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 172-6 (35 overs)
Naqash reaches fifty by slashing Bukhari for four through the covers, but Ahsan Malik’s nagging accuracy from the Pavilion End gets its reward when he bowls Van Molen. Could this game have another twist in the tail? Nasir joins Naqash, who’s on 54* now.
Salland vs Sparta 17:42
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 164-5 (33 overs)
The tempo accelerating now, Naqash pulling Ahmadi in front of square for four, and then, after he oversteps for the second time in this spell and the ball goes for four byes, launching the free hit into the far distance beyond long on. There’s a comedy moment when he thinks he’s hit another and both batters are at one end before finally settling for a single. But 16 come off that one, and Salland need 24 now. Naqash 48*.
Salland vs Sparta 17:35
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 145-5 (31 overs)
Ahmadi returns to the attack, but a misfield at deep point gives Naqash another boundary. Only 43 needed now, with Naqash on 35*.
Salland vs Sparta 17:24
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 129-5 (28 overs)
And a third for Bukhari, as Bharathi top-edges an easy catch to Ahmadi at fine leg. Sparta really back in this now, as Gijs van Molen joins Naqash.
Salland vs Sparta 17:17
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 125-4 (25.5 overs)
Gohil replaces Manminder Singh, and Naqash smacks his third delivery over the midwicket rope for six. And just as it seemed to be drifting away from Sparta, Bukhari gets them back into the game, as Khan drives uppishly at him and is caught at point. Elam Bharathi joins Naqash, who’s on 22*.
Salland vs Sparta 17:01
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 107-3 (23 overs)
Talha Khan warming to the task now, hitting boundaries off both Singh and Bukhari and moving on to 31*. Naqash gets into the act with a four off Singh as well, and Salland need 81 as they take a drink.
Salland vs Sparta 16:49
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 89-3 (19.4 overs)
Spin at both ends, Manminder Singh replacing Snoep. He and Raza are convinced they have Khan caught behind off his first delivery, but the umpire disagrees. Just the one off it, though. Then Bukhari strikes! Ottachchige, on 20, comes down the pitch, is beaten, and Raza whips off the bails. Sahir Naqash in to join Khan, who’s also currently on 20*.
Salland vs Sparta 16:40
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 87-2 (18 overs)
Bukhari does come into the attack, but uncharacteristically bowling spin. Ottachchige drives him through the covers for three, then Khan turns him square for a couple, adding a single to long off. But at least the whole over was on the spot.
Salland vs Sparta 16:33
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 76-2 (16 overs)
Extras are comfortably top scorer here: 28 now, 17 of them wides as Saleem adds three more to the tally, plus a no ball. Khan’s on 13*, Ottachchige on 14*. None of it is a pleasing prospect for Salland.
Salland vs Sparta 16:18
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 63-2 (14 overs)
Slow progress by Salland, especially since Snoep has replaced the rather wayward (but undoubtedly menacing) Ahmadi. Usman Saleem on now at the Railway End, raising the question whether Bukhari may not be fit to bowl after injuring his leg while batting. Khan survives a strong LBW appeal, which the Spartans pursue fairly vigorously, and rubs it in by running the ball down to third man for a couple, then drives him to the long off boundary. Four wides in the over as well.
Salland vs Sparta 16:00
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 48-2 (11 overs)
A bit of excitement as Ottachchige is bowled by Ahmadi. But it’s off the second free hit, the first following the no ball having been a wide. Snoep replaces Ahmadi, and hits Ottachchige on or about the helmet with a lifting delivery. All concerned take a drink while he gets some attention.
Salland vs Sparta 15:33
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 28-2 (5 overs)
Lubbers was looking confident against Ahmadi, clipping him through midwicket for four and then guiding him down to third man for another. That took him to 17, but then Ahmadi bowls a fuller delivery, it hits off stump, and Lubbers is on his way. Ottachchige joins Talha Ahmad.
Salland vs Sparta 15:21
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
Salland : 15-1 (2.3 overs)
Back at ‘t Schootsveld, Ahmadi opening from the Pavilion End to Ganesan. A single to him and a boundary to Victor Lubbers. Ahsan Malik from the Railway End, and Ganesan takes a three, Lubbers a single. But then Ahmadi bowls Ganesan with a very good yorker. Talha Khan in at three.
Salland vs Sparta 14:28
Sparta : 187 all out (49.2 overs)
The final pair are Usman Saleem and Joost Martijn Snoep. Lubbers gets Saleem caught by Hashim Khan, and after a promising start Sparta are all out for 187. At least this time they got to 135 before they collapsed. But Salland have the momentum at the break.
Salland vs Sparta 14:24
Sparta : 183-9 (48.2 overs)
Balwantsingh caught by Nasir off Bharathi, and then Ahsan Malik is stumped by Ottachchige off Gopinath. Sparta have lost seven for 49, and four for 15.
Salland vs Sparta 14:15
Sparta : 176-7 (46.2 overs)
Another wicket for Gopinath, and another catch for Talha Ahmad: Manminder Singh gone for 14. Ahsan Malik in to join Prithviraj Balwantsingh.
Salland vs Sparta 14:09
Sparta : 169-6 (44.4 overs)
But it’s too good to last, and Ahmadi is caught by Talha Khan off Gopinath for 17.
Salland vs Sparta 14:05
Sparta : 167-5 (44 overs)
Singh and Ahmadi give some much-needed momentum to the innings, Ahmadi hoisting Ganesan for six and Singh hitting a boundary off Gopinath. 200 is still on the cards for Sparta here.
Salland vs Sparta 13:57
Sparta : 144-5 (41.3 overs)
The slide continues, as Raza is stumped by Ottachchige off Ganesan. Khalid Ahmadi in to join Singh.
Salland vs Sparta 13:42
Sparta : 140-4 (38.4 overs)
A big wicket for Bharathi, as Gohil is caught behind by Ottachchige for 32. Manminder Singh joins Raza, with Sparta now in a spot of bother.
Salland vs Sparta 13:36
Sparta : 135-3 (37.2 overs)
Obviously hampered by that leg injury Bukhari goes for 23, caught by Naqash off Ganesan. Ali Raza in to join Gohil, who’s on 30*.
Salland vs Sparta 13:26
Sparta : 124-2 (35.4 overs)
Trouble for Bukhari as he has to hustle for a second after sweeping Ganesan, and he goes down with a problem in his leg. He’s OK to resume though. Just don’t expect any quick singles.
Salland vs Sparta 13:21
Sparta : 121-2 (35 overs)
Gohil enjoying the luxury of coming in after the powerplay and with a half-decent total on the board, strokes a lovely straight drive off Gopinath for four. The return of Bharathi from the Pavilion End is the response, but Bukhari despatches him meatily wide of mid-on for another boundary. Still Ganesan from the Railway End. There was some confusion for a while about who was facing (surprisingly enough, given it’s Gohil and Bukhari), but we currently have Gohil on 24* and Bukhari on 15*.
Salland vs Sparta 12:55
Sparta : 89-2 (28 overs)
One brings two: Noor swings Sherzad high over cow for six, but then prods forward at Gopinath, fails to get over it, and Van Molen takes the catch at shortish cover. He departs for 43, and Mudassar Bukhari joins Gohil in the middle. Venkat Ganesan into the attack from the Railway End.
Salland vs Sparta 12:41
Sparta : 71-1 (24 overs)
Another double change, with Abbas Sherzad from the Railway End and Akhil Gopinath from the other. Noor keeps swinging away at Sherzad, but he also plays a really fluent straight drive for four. And then Sherzad gets the breakthrough, Ambrose failing to get on top of another square drive and being caught by Lubbers at point. He goes for 31, Noor’s on 34*, and is joined by Samit Gohil.
Salland vs Sparta 12:18
Sparta : 48-0 (18 overs)
Nasir and Bharathi continue; back-to-back maidens keep up the pressure, and Noor is a little fortunate when he drives a Bharathi delivery head-high just wide of Victor Lubbers’s dive at shortish cover. Ambrose, though, produces a slog-sweep for four which is an authentically good shot. He’s on 25* now, Noor on 17*.
Salland vs Sparta 11:53
Sparta : 39-0 (13 overs)
Maiden from Lubbers to Noor. Gul Ahmad Nasir from the Railway End, and Ambrose pulls his first delivery through midwicket for a couple. The next is driven square for a single, and then Noor takes one off the last. Elam Bharathi replaces Lubbers, Noor lofting a full loss over mid-off for four and then another single. Ambrose on 20*, Noor on 14*.
Salland vs Sparta 11:42
Sparta : 30-0 (10 overs)
We are now in the happy position of being able to tell you that Sparta won the toss at Het Schootsveld and elected to bat, and that Craig Ambrose and Raza Noor have made a good start against the bowling of Victor Lubbers and Hashim Khan. Lubbers continuing from the Pavilion End.
Rod Lyall 10:30
And welcome back, everyone, for the last of the weekend’s matches, with Sparta having made the journey to Deventer to take on Salland. This is even more important for the Capelle side after Dosti’s second successive win yesterday, with the battle to avoid the two automatic relegation places now in its final throes. We’ll be keeping you posted here.
Bertus de Jong 18:42
Well, what looked a decisive weekend has decided little so far, except that VOC are safe thanks to Jelte Schoonheim. VRA keep their championship hopes alive another week, while Dosti are prizing open an escape hatch with a win over the luckless Kampong. Salland could still secure their survival tomorrow when they face Sparta, but otherwise both ends of the competition remain improbably open with two rounds to go.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 18:29
VRA : 224 all out (46 overs)
HBS : 200 all out (50 overs)
Dutt to bowl the last. Ferdi Vink gets under his first ball, and an easy catch for Dasgupta at cover. A single apiece for Scholte and Stephan Vink to get the total to 200, but then Dutt bowls Scholte with the final delivery, and VRA win by 24 runs. Dutt finishes with figures of 10 – 5 – 12 – 4.
Excelsior ‘20 vs Punjab 18:25
Punjab : 253-5 (50 overs)
Excelsior : 141 all out (38.2 overs)
Winding to a close here, a lazy mix-up sees Etman run out for 8, Rens van Troost caught behind off Saqib in the next. Umar Baker opens his account with a six but it’s just for fun really. Clean bowled by Jappie in the next over and all out for 141.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 18:23
VRA : 224 all out (46 overs)
HBS : 198-8 (49 overs)
De Mey keeps HBS interested with a meaty pull over midwicket for four, but Borren’s field placings are immaculate, and when Walbrugh tries to smack Nashier over the long on boundary Singh is under it. He goes for 102, and with him the Crows’ last real hope of victory. In case there was any doubt, Nashier bowls De Mey next ball for 59. Ferdi Vink and Scholte at the crease for the final over.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 18:17
VRA : 224 all out (46 overs)
HBS : 191-6 (48 overs)
An on drive off Balbirnie takes Walbrugh to 100* from 132 deliveries, but still there are only five off it, Walbrugh struck painfully as he goes down to try to slog-sweep the last ball. 34 off two.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 18:13
VRA : 224 all out (46 overs)
HBS : 186-6 (47 overs)
Finally there’s a bit of urgency in the HBS approach, De Mey reversing against Nashier to go to 50. Walbrugh goes to 98*, 11 off the over. 39 off three.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 18:08
VRA : 224 all out (46 overs)
HBS : 175-6 (46 overs)
Just four singles off Nashier’s next. De Mey lofts Balbirnie wide of mid-on for four and they get nine off the over, but it’s not nearly enough. 50 needed off four. Walbrugh 96*, De Mey 43*.
VRA vs HBS Craeyenhout 18:02
VRA : 224 all out (46 overs)
HBS : 162-6 (44 overs)

Voorburg vs HCC 17:58
HCC : 224-6 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 155 all out (37.3 overs)
All over at Westvliet: De Leede takes a brace off twos off Bennett, but then he comes down the wicket, swings across the line, and is bowled for 57. Big, big win for HCC.

ACC vs VOC Rotterdam 17:44
ACC : 226 all out (46 overs)

Voorburg vs HCC 17:50
HCC : 224-6 (50 overs)
Voorburg : 148-9 (35.4 overs)
Kingma plays tentatively at his first delivery, Lagas takes it, the field goes up, and so does the umpire’s finger. Kingma is outraged, but he has to go. Stef Mulder in to face the hat-trick ball. HCC’s turn for disbelief, as they all go up for another catch behind, but the umpire’s unmoved. A solid defensive shot to complete the over. A first Topklasse Michelle for Felix Bennett.
Voorburg vs HCC 17:47
HCC : 224-6 (50 overs)

Punjab : 253-5 (50 overs)
Excelsior : 91-5 (26 overs)
