Rod Lyall 18:38
Well, that was a terrific day’s cricket, with the bowlers having the edge in the morning but the batting sides generally prevailing in the afternoon. We’ll be back on Saturday to do it all again, and in the meantime don’t forget:
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 18:33
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 221-6 (49.3 overs)
A single for Ackermann, then two for Kumar. And he hits the next to the boundary to give ACC a tremendous victory. All credit to Hobson, whose 122 was the difference between the sides.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 18:30
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 214-6 (49 overs)
Six required off the last, and it’s Usman Saleem to bowl it.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 18:24
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 211-6 (48.2 overs)
Hobson takes two, but he’s caught by Saleem off the next. He made 122, but suddenly Sparta are back in it! Ackermann joins Kumar, who’s on 24*.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 18:24
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 209-5 (48 overs)
A three for Hobson helps a lot, and then he adds another. Ten from it in total, and now ACC can see the finish line. 11 from two, and Malik has the ball.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 18:19
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 199-5 (47 overs)
Malik to bowl 47 and 49. Eight from his first, leaving 21 to get. Ahmadi bowls 48.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 18:15
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 191-5 (46 overs)
Seven off it. 29 from four. Malik still has two to bowl, Ahmadi one. Who bowls the other one?
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 18:12
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 184-5 (45 overs)
Hobson moves on to 104*, Kumar on 15*. Two good overs for ACC; 36 required off five. Ahmadi to bowl the 46th.
Kampong vs HBS Craeyenhout 18:06
Kampong : 218-9 (50 overs)
HBS : 219-5 (48.5 overs)
All over at Maarschalkerweerd.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 18:01
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 170-5 (43 overs)
Hobson gets to three figures, batting now with Kumar. 50 needed off seven.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 17:57
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 195 all out (41.5 overs)
Etman back, Lees takes a single off the first out to long off, Abid does the same three balls later. Just seven to get, but they won’t be got. Squeezed out to point and they look to steal one, throw comes in, Abid dives, Verhagen takes the bails, Abid is sure he’s home but the square leg umpire is of a different opinion.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 17:57
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 161-5 (42 overs)
Knoll goes for 10, caught by Malik off Saleem. Hobson’s on 98*, but ACC need 59 from eight.
Kampong vs HBS Craeyenhout 17:52
Kampong : 218-9 (50 overs)
HBS : 202-5 (44.4 overs)
But Usman Malik has other ideas, trapping Navjit in front for 11. Only 17 needed now, though.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 17:49
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 193-9 (41 overs)
Abid blocks out a maiden to Ingram, Hampton from the other end. Just the one single off it, more than a few past the bat too. Getting very tense.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 17:47
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 148-4 (40 overs)
Hobson on 92* now, with Chris Knoll on 3*, but ACC need 72 off 10. Bukhari has one over left, Malik and Ahmadi two each.
Kampong vs HBS Craeyenhout 17:45
Kampong : 218-9 (50 overs)
HBS : 196-4 (43.1 overs)
It’s only a matter of time, you’d think.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 17:41
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 192-9 (39 overs)
Lees has looked happy to trust Abid with the strike in this last stand, and the youngster repays his faith blocking three dots to Hampton and then bagging two edging wide of the slips on the final ball of the 37th. Ingram still at the other end, and Lees slams the first ball of the 38th over long on for six, then drives through extra for two.
Kampong vs HBS Craeyenhout 17:40
Kampong : 218-9 (50 overs)
HBS : 173-4 (38 overs)
Kaplan made 44, it seems, and Barresi’s now gone for the same score. Navjit and Ryan Klein together to try to knock off the remaining runs.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 17:37
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 139-4 (38 overs)
Ahmadi bowls McInerney for 4, and equally important, there’s just one run off the over. 81 off 12, and Sparta look to be back in charge.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 17:32
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 138-3 (37 overs)
No further wicket at the Bermweg, but ACC still need 82, and they only have 13 overs to get them. Hobson, on 85*, remains key.
Punjab Rotterdam vs HCC 17:26
Punjab : 171 all out (48.4 overs)
HCC : 172-5 (32 overs)
HCC complete a five-wicket victory, but not before there are some unpleasant scenes. Patel hooks a Salarazai bouncer off his eyebrows for six to long leg, and something appears to be said which brings Saqib and Asad Zulfiqar into an angry confrontation with the batters. Tariq gets involved as well, and there’s a fair bit of gesturing before the umpires usher him away. It would be surprising if we didn’t hear more about this. But the end comes in the next over, giving Punjab their second successive defeat.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 17:24
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 173-9 (35 overs)
And a well-directed bouncer from Hampton does the trick, Turmaine tries to sway away but doesn’t sway far enough, Ingram makes no mistake at slip. Abid last man.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 17:20
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 171-8 (34 overs)
Lees chops Ingram away behind point for four to release some of the pressure, but still very tense out there. Both bats on 5*. Hampton again from the other end.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 17:16
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 128-3 (33 overs)
The whiff of a possibility gets a little stronger as Smith falls for 2, caught by Allen off Bukhari. Charles McInerney in now, but Hobson’s is the wicket Sparta really need.
Kampong vs HBS Craeyenhout 17:11
Kampong : 218-9 (50 overs)
HBS : ???-3 (? overs)
Kaplan has gone, caught at mid-off off Nana, but Barresi’s still there, joined now by Navjit Singh.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 17:10
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 127-2 (32 overs)
Ahmadi returns to remove Potdar, caught by Bukhari for 26. Hobson, on 80*, is joined by Robin Smith. Sparta may sniff the faintest hint of a chance.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 17:07
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 161-8 (31 overs)
Heggelman again and has Dutt fencing outside off, was there a nick? The umpire thinks so. He goes for 62, Turmaine joins Lees who has yet to score, and the remaining 41 runs look a big ask from here…
Punjab Rotterdam vs HCC 17:06
Punjab : 171 all out (48.4 overs)
HCC : 150-5 (28.5 overs)
Salarazai has been fairly expensive today, but he eventually gets Pringle, hooking at a bouncer and taken above his head by Asad Zulfiqar. The New Zealander made 17, but with only 22 needed as Patel comes to the crease you have to think that’s too little, too late for Punjab.
Kampong vs HBS Craeyenhout 16:59
Kampong : 218-9 (50 overs)
HBS : ???-2 (? overs)
Likewise at Maarschalkerweerd, a solid stand from Barresi and Kaplan seems to be taking the match away from Kampong. The live score has stalled, but the flow of runs has not.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 16:57
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 159-7 (29 overs)
Short from Hampton and pulled away for four by Dutt, then pitched up and driven through extra for four more, but next over Heggelman has Borren for a duck, wide and flashing outside off edged through and gone. Real see-saw stuff. Lees in, 43 still needed.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 16:55
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 112-1 (28 overs)
At the Bermweg Hobson and Potdar have now added 87, with Hobson on 73* and Potdar on 23*. The game is drifting ACC’s way.
Punjab Rotterdam vs HCC 16:50
Punjab : 171 all out (48.4 overs)
HCC : 134-4 (25.5 overs)
Salarazai back from the Scoreboard End, but Gorlee and Pringle take ten off his over. In Sikander’s next, Pringle, the non-striker, holds the bowler up in order to discard a sweater, but it’s his partner who suffers, chipping the following delivery over Sikander’s head to Salarazai at mid-off. Funny old game . . . Overdijk in, and LBW first ball. Even funnier old game!
Salland vs VOC Rotterdam 16:49
Salland : 185-9 (50 overs)
VOC : 186-3 (30 overs)
VOC really going for the net run rate boost. Edwards departs after scoring 87 followed by Jelte Schoonheim for 12 off 5 balls. Fourie and Jain unbeaten as VOC cross the line in 30 overs. Seelaar and Fletcher signing off from Deventer.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 16:47
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 149-6 (27 overs)
Dutt goes to fifty in less than emphatic style, edging van Troost behind and through for four, but loses another parter two overs later as Nashier shanks a thick outside edge to point off Heggelman. Borren in, Hampton back into the attack.
Kampong vs HBS Craeyenhout 16:36
Kampong : 218-9 (50 overs)
HBS : 118-2 (27 overs)
Barresi and Kaplan are making steady progress, with 101 now needed from 23 overs. Barresi’s on 21*, Kaplan on 18*, and Cole Briggs is the seventh bowler tried by Malik.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 16:35
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 140-5 (25 overs)
Four more to Smal punching Heggelman away square off the back foot, but three balls later he’s gone. On the drive and miscued into the off side where Stan van Troost hold on in the deep. Nashier in to join Dutt, who’s on 46*.
Punjab Rotterdam vs HCC 16:29
Punjab : 171 all out (48.4 overs)
HCC : 115-2 (21.5 overs)
Another for Sikander, and it’s the crucial scalp of Staal, who had just imperiously lofted him over extra cover for four. The next one jags back sharply, and Staal’s beaten, caught on the crease. No hesitation from the umpire, and Staal goes for 75. Pringle joins Gorlee.
Salland vs VOC Rotterdam 16:20
Salland : 185-9 (50 overs)
VOC : 153-3 (26 overs)
Ganesan with the breakthrough, good sharp catch at slip from Reinder Lubbers sees the back of Matt Smit for 20. Tim de Kok joins Edwards who is 80*, and a double strike in the over. Tim de Kok stumped for 0.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 16:25
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 126-4 (22 overs)
Heggelman back and Smal lifts him over a leaping cover for four, then clips the next ball off his toes for four more. Hosts getting worried now, and next over van Troost goes short and is pulled to the rope to take Smal to 49, pushes the next through cover to go to fifty.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 16:01
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 68-1 (20 overs)
Hobson’s gone on to 42*, Potdar on 10*. Saleem and Gohil operating for Sparta now, and it’s looking as if this could be another very tight finish.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 16:15
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 110-4 (20 overs)
Back of a length from van Troost and Dutt rocks back to heave him away over midwicket for four, bringing up the hundred for VRA. Smal gets in on the fun three balls later, driving hard through cover to the rope, then straighter through long off for four more. Both bats in the 30s now, been an impressive recovery.
Punjab Rotterdam vs HCC 16:10
Punjab : 171 all out (48.4 overs)
HCC : 94-1 (17.4 overs)
Sikander Zulfiqar gets a desperately-needed breakthrough, Worden edging a wideish delivery to Asad and departing for 23. Staal’s on 62*, and they’ll take a drink.
Kampong vs HBS Craeyenhout 16:06
Kampong : 218-9 (50 overs)
HBS : 76-2 (18.4 overs)
Malik strikes again, with Mason this time falling to a brilliant caught-and-bowled, Malik diving well across to his left to take a low catch. Gavin Kaplan in to join Barresi.
Salland vs VOC Rotterdam 16:01
Salland : 185-9 (50 overs)
VOC : 129-1 (20 overs)
Drinks at het Schootsveld, 129 for 1 after 20. There was some confusion in the middle regarding the O’Dowd dismissal. O’Dowd thinking there were 5 man outside the 30 yard circle, but deep backward square entered the ring just in time, leaving O’Dowd in disbelief.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 16:01
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 81-4 (17 overs)
Heinsbroek into the attack, tidy early but then too wide and Smal cuts for four, next ball too short and pulled over the on side for four more.
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 16:01
Sparta : 219-8 (50 overs)
ACC : 44-1 (14 overs)
Hobson and Potdar are building a stand, the former on 28* now, but they’re in danger of falling behind the rate required. Still, they’ve seen Malik off, and Ahmadi’s replaced him.
Kampong vs HBS Craeyenhout 15:56
Kampong : 218-9 (50 overs)
HBS : 71-1 (16.2 overs)
Malik delivers for his side, bowling Walbrugh through the gate for 43. Barresi joins Mason, who’s on 23*.
Punjab Rotterdam vs HCC 15:54
Punjab : 171 all out (48.4 overs)
HCC : 77-0 (14 overs)
A very brisk half-century for Staal, who lofts Ashiqullah back over his head for a couple to move to 49*, is forced to defend the next, and then dismisses the next high over midwicket for four. Worden happy to adopt the watching/congratulating role.
Kampong vs HBS Craeyenhout 15:49
Kampong : 218-9 (50 overs)
HBS : 57-0 (14 overs)
Singh Jhala and Jacod on now for Kampong, but Walbrugh and Mason proceed undeterred, now on 41* and 12* respectively. Kampong in serious need of a wicket.
Punjab Rotterdam vs HCC 15:46
Punjab : 171 all out (48.4 overs)
HCC : 68-0 (12 overs)
Ashiqullah Said replaces Salarazai, but a free hit delivery following a no ball is a full toss, despatched by Staal over midwicket. The over costs 13 in all, and HCC appear to be cruising: Staal on 45* from 42 balls, Worden 14*.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 15:45
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 65-4 (14 overs)
Hampton a bit loose here, on the pads to Smal and clipped away square for four, short and wide to Dutt and lifted over backward point for two better. Ingram tighter at the other end, just one off his next.

VCC : 118-1 (21.4 overs)
Perumal into the attack and cut away for four by Ahmad, three balls later and Ahmad strides down to cream him over midwicket for six. Just three to get, Hans still at the other end, bowling full and straight, single out to square leg for each batter, and another for Hingorani and done. He finishes on a restrained 25* off 49, Ahmad at the other end mostly responsible for the early finish, ending up on 66* off 55 deliveries. VCC win by 9 wickets with an afternoon to spare. That was not close.

Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 15:00
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 17-2 (3 overs)
Scully seems to have been given the same hitting brief as Visser, drives Heggelman through the covers for four, then three balls later bombs him back over his head for six. First ball of the next Singh guides a wide ball from Etman through the off side for four more, but gets too much elevation trying to repeat the shot two balls later and caught. Dutt at four, it’s all happening.
Dosti Amsterdam vs VCC 14:52
Dosti : 117 all out (31.3 overs)

Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 14:50
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
VRA : 2-1 (1 over)
And they’re back on at Thurlede, Singh and Visser opening for VRA. Niels Etman takes the new ball. And Visser’s presumably been instructed to go hard early again, in the event he merely goes early. Takes a knee, top-edged slog and Verhagen runs across to take it around backward square leggish. Scully at three, Heggelman from the other end.
Dosti Amsterdam vs VCC 14:42
Dosti : 117 all out (31.3 overs)

Sparta 1888 vs ACC 14:26
Sparta : 211-8 (49 overs)

Dosti Amsterdam vs VCC 14:25
Dosti : 117 all out (31.3 overs)
VCC : 62-1 (9 overs)
Bit of a ball-hunt there, and now a bowling change. Raja into the attack from the football end, but it’s a change at the other end that pays off, Diwan on and first ball has Malan caught at slip for the second time this season. He goes for 18, Hingorani in at three.
Kampong vs HBS Craeyenhout 14:21
Kampong : 218-9 (50 overs)
Van der Harten goes for a big heave off Kyle Klein’s final delivery and is caught at deep fine leg by Stephan Vink for 20. A decent total for the home side, but will it be enough?
Sparta 1888 vs ACC 14:18
Sparta : 197-7 (47 overs)
Arya gets his revenge, bowling Ahmadi, but Gohil has gone on to 84*, partnered now by Nasrat Inbrahimkhil. He’s on a charge in the final overs.
Punjab Rotterdam vs HCC 14:15
Punjab : 171 all out (48.4 overs)
And Floyd finishes it off, bowling Saqib for an 82-ball 28. He has four for 25, Floris de Lange three for 37. Well short of par, you’d think, but the pitch doesn’t seem all that easy to bat on. We shall see.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 14:10
Excelsior : 201 all out (43.3 overs)
Another for Balbirnie, and it’s the one they wanted. Hampton playing across the line and a big leading edge falls to Visser coming in off the rope from long off. He goes for 45. Heinsbroek last man. Three balls later and it’s all over, van Troost sloggging into the on side but doesn’t get in cleanly and gone. VRA will have a target of 202 after lunch.
Kampong vs HBS Craeyenhout 14:15
Kampong : 205-8 (48 overs)
Jacod pulls Kyle Klein hard for four, but the next delivery sends his middle stump cartwheeling. He goes for a run-a-ball 20. Shivdutt Singh Jhala fences with the last of the over, and Martijn Scholte takes the catch.
Dosti Amsterdam vs VCC 14:09
Dosti : 117 all out (31.3 overs)
VCC : 56-0 (7 overs)
Straight six from Malan, then Ahmad brings up the fifty sweeping hard behind square. And again. He’s on 25 off 17, Malan on 17 off 22. VCC halfway home already.
Punjab Rotterdam vs HCC 14:07
Punjab : 170-9 (47 overs)
Floyd gets a double breakthrough at De Diepput, Salarazai holing out to Hidde Overdijk at long on and departing even before the catch is taken, then Ashiqullah Said trapped in front first ball. Double wicket maiden for the left-arm spinner.

Dosti : 117 all out (31.3 overs)
VCC : 32-0 (5 overs)
Hoseinbaks coming in for some tap now, Ahmad lofts him over long off for a six, then a thick edge flies over slip for four more, and then a cracking drive through long off brings two more.
Excelsior ’20 vs VRA 14:00
Excelsior : 196-8 (42 overs)
Balbirnie into the attack, full toss first up and Shankar lifts him over mid off for four, but next ball is on the spot and plumb. Rens van Troost in and off the mark driving square for four.
Kampong vs HBS Craeyenhout 13:58

Bertus de Jong 10:16
Morning all, and welcome back. A sneaky extra Ascension Day round now, and barely a break before the next is upon us on Saturday, so we should have a good idea of what phase two is likely to look like within days. One match that will have no influence at all on that is this one here at Drieburg, where Dosti welcome VCC for a de-facto friendly. I’ll also be keeping an eye on going-on at Thurlede and Deventer for you, while Rod will be bringing you the action from Group A. Once again the weather is smiling on us, hopefully a timely start all over. Still a little while to go though, so why not check out the preview if you’ve not already.
Rod Lyall 10:15
Good morning/afternoon/evening, everyone, on a fine, mostly sunny Ascension Day in the Netherlands, and welcome to our live coverage of today’s action in Round 7 of the Topklasse. A lot of attention will focus on the clash between HCC and Punjab at De Diepput, but the glory of the Topklasse is that there can be surprises pretty much anywhere, and Bertus de Jong and I will be here to make sure you hear about them if and when they happen, while Sander Tholen will be out with his camera to create a photographic record of events. Bertus kindly gave me a day off last Saturday, but as the first phase enters its final rounds over the next couple of weeks we’ll both be right on top of it!
