Bertus de Jong 17:29
So a full washout for this round. Game over for Sparta as Rod pointed out earlier, and HCC through to the top three. Group B still alive, but very good news for VRA who will only need to avoid a shellacking at Westvliet next week to make the top three. Bad news for both teams here, with Dosti missing out on their one-but-last chance to bag any Phase 2 points, and Excelsior needing to win against VOC next week to avoid the relegation scrap. They won’t take any points from this game through either way, which is obviously not entirely fair either. Fair to say the format’s not been an unqualified success, but who could have known? That’s it from us this week, we’ll be back for the Group B denoument of course, while there’s phase 2 points to be had in two of the three Group A games too.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 17:26
Excelsior : 249-4 (45 overs)
Yep, handshakes all round. We’re done here.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 17:25
Excelsior : 249-4 (45 overs)
The hand has appeared and is scribbling on the wall…
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 16:50
Excelsior : 249-4 (45 overs)
Captains called together but they’re not gonna pull the plug just yet. Gonna wait another 40 minutes to see if it stops raining which it probably won’t. Bar’s open at least.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 16:32
Excelsior : 249-4 (45 overs)
Excelsior innings officially closed now. 280-something in 45 would be the target if they started now, which they won’t of course, as it’s still raining. You can put a fork in it if you ask me..

Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 16:12
Excelsior : 249-4 (45 overs)
Excelsior have settled in for the long haul here, playing cards out and no sign of any impending captain’s chat. Atmosphere is rather gezellig too so not expecting any news soon. It’s still raining steadily…
Voorburg vs Salland 16:08
VCC : 241-2 (42.3 overs)
And then there was one. VCC-Salland officially off.
Bertus de Jong 16:03
A warm thanks to Rod, and to all of you still following the Netherlands’ saddest weather service. It’s still raining…
Rod Lyall 16:00
All three Group A games have now been called off, which is terrible news for Sparta and very good news for HCC, four points clear with one first phase game to play. Nul points all round today. Two Group B games are on life support, so I shall leave you for the rest of the afternoon in the expert hands of Dr Bertus. And I shall, hopefully, be back next week for the conclusion of this part of the competition.
Kampong vs ACC 15:54
ACC : 110-5 (30 overs)
We haven’t seen any confirmation yet, but we believe that this one may also have been abandoned. It’s certainly still raining in Utrecht.
Voorburg vs Salland 15:42
VCC : 219-2 (42.3 overs)
Covers back on at Westvliet, and aside from Janneman Malan salvaging his Topklasse average it’s not clear anything much will be accomplished today.
🏏 Stats Snippet 🏏 15:36
Incidentally another record today at Westvliet we reckon. Young Fasih Ullah taking the field for Salland alongside Steven Lubbers. Fasihullah’s 14 years old we’re told, while Lubbers is of course no less than 69 years young. That’s a gap of at least 54, possibly 55 years between the team-mates. If you can think of a bigger gap we’d love to hear about it…
Kampong vs ACC 15:35
ACC : 110-5 (30 overs)
The covers are still on at Maarschalkerweerd, and light but persistent rain is falling.
Voorburg vs Salland 15:28
VCC : 197-2 (40 overs)
Jarri Ullah has the breakthrough at Westvliet, de Leede reaching and looking to hit straight but can’t clear long off, doesn’t have the distance. Potgieter joins Malan, who gets a friendly full toss in Jarri’s next and lashes it over midwicket for six. Manufactures another full toss three balls later coming down and pushing toward deep midwicket for one and ton, his first Topklasse century.
Kampong vs ACC 15:13
ACC : 110-5 (30 overs)
No sign of any further action at Maarschalkerweerd as yet.
Voorburg vs Salland 15:12
VCC : 172-1 (37 overs)
They’re back on, Gijs van Molen and Talha Khan for Salland, Malan and de Leede still for the hosts, the former on 88* now, the latter 19*.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 15:01
Excelsior : 249-4 (45 overs)
Getting very heavy here at Drieburg meanwhile. Can barely see the other side of the ground now. This may test Excelsior’s optimism. 18:16 is the latest they can start we hear.
Voorburg vs Salland 14:59
VCC : 160-1 (34.4 overs)
Word is a restart is imminent. No overs lost yet.
Voorburg vs Salland 14:49
VCC : 160-1 (34.4 overs)
Some activity at Westvliet now, looks like the covers are coming off. More news as we get it…
VRA vs VOC Rotterdam 14:33
And they have bowed to the inevitable at Hazelaarweg too.
HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout 14:33
HCC :
It appears that the game at De Diepput has been quietly abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 14:18
Excelsior : 249-4 (45 overs)
Early lunch taken, Excelsior won’t bat again, though they’ve done more than enough you’d think. The weather the principal obstacle now. They’ve got til 18:30 to get back on for 20 overs I reckon. Radar suggests there’s a fair chance they’ll get them in, but far from guaranteed. Excelsior will be waiting it out for sure.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 14:08
Excelsior : 249-4 (45 overs)
And the rain is here for real now.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 14:08
Excelsior : 249-4 (45 overs)
Chance there as Ingram looks to clear deep midwicket off Ahmad, looks like Tewarie the fielder, too slow off the rope and tries to take it at his ankles and grassed. Three balls later Kroesen goes straight and high and that’s six more into the sightscreen. Ingram goes to fifty running Singh down to third, and then Kroesen’s dropped in the deep again, simple catch put down in front of deep square. Ball is pretty wet now in fairness. Rain sliding by on both sides…
Punjab vs Sparta 1888 13:59
Punjab : 26-0 (4 overs)
And the first game to be abandoned officially is at ‘t Zomercomplex, where it’s still raining and the umpires have given up the unequal struggle.
VRA vs VOC Rotterdam 13:55
It is still raining at Hazelaarweg.
Kampong vs ACC 13:49
ACC : 110-5 (30 overs)
Hobson goes to fifty with a lofted six off Jacod, back over the bowler’s head, but the rain is spitting again. Then it gets much heavier, and the players race for the covers.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 13:48
Excelsior : 198-4 (40.1 overs)
And sure enough the covers are coming on at Drieburg with Excelsior 2 short of 200. Ingram on 33*, Kroesen on 6*. No wait, scratch that, they’re coming off again…
🌧 Weather Update 🌧 13:45
The games at Drieburg and Utrecht the last ones standing now as the clouds begin to close in. It’s raining pretty heavily at both now so expect they’ll be off soon. The weather’s blowing in from the Southwest so the expectation is it’ll arrive here soon enough too, and likely clear in the south first, if at all. Hazelaarweg isn’t known to drain fast though…
Kampong vs ACC 13:42
ACC : 96-5 (26.4 overs)
That’s really unfortunate for McInerney, who’s run out without facing a ball. Hobson pushes Gert Swanepoel into the covers, they look for a single to Roy, and McInerney slips not once but twice as he tries to accelerate. Run out by a good metre as Alphonse gathers the return. Aryan Kumar joins Hobson, who’s on 41*.
Voorburg vs Salland 13:39
VCC : 160-1 (34.4 overs)
Malan goes into the 80s driving van Molen through extra cover for four, but four balls into the next over the rain returns with a vengeance. Sheeting down at Voorburg now.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 13:36
Excelsior : 183-4 (37 overs)
A brief but effective cameo from Hampton, made 20 off 20 before holing out to deep extra off Hoseinbaks. Joost Kroesen in to join Ingram, who’s on 24.
Kampong vs ACC 13:35
ACC : 96-4 (26 overs)
Wegener immediately off the mark with a cut through backward point for four. But then Jacod gets him as he swings wildly, trying to hammer him behind square, is hit on the pad, and umpire Muthucumaru is convinced. Charles McInerney in as the wheels threaten to detach themselves again for ACC.

Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 13:28
Excelsior : 173-3 (35 overs)
Back after drinks as the first hints of rain arrive. Hoseinbaks with a bit of a loosener, off the pitch and away for byes. Hampton creams the free hit dead straight and low for a one-bounce four. Four balls later and crunched through the covers for four more.
HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout 13:28
HCC :
Still no start at De Diepput, and they’re taking an early lunch.
Kampong vs ACC 13:26
ACC : 88-3 (24.1 overs)
Van der Harten bowls Smith for 7, as he plays on to a ball which maybe keeps a little low outside off stump. Not a lot of foot movement there, though. Fergus Wegener in at five.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 13:21
Excelsior : 160-3 (34 overs)
Diwan back for one over before drinks at Drieburg. Ingram on 25* now, Hampton on 5*.
Voorburg vs Salland 13:19
VCC : 138-1 (29 overs)
They’re back on at Westvliet, de Leede finds his first boundary driving Ganesan through extra for four. Malan at the other end is on 69*, we’re fairly sure. Been a bit of confusion at the scorers’ table but seems to have been sorted now.
Kampong vs ACC 13:17
ACC : 80-2 (22 overs)
Jacod and Van der Harten have kept things tight since they returned again, with Robin Smith now at the crease with Hobson, who’s gone on to 39*.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 13:12
Excelsior : 153-3 (32 overs)
Ingram steps out to Hoseinbaks and dumps him into the Korfball courts, but next over rids himself of his partner attempting a mindless single, pushing straight to Singh in the covers, Verhagen barely halfway down the track as the direct hit splays the stumps. Hampton in.
VRA vs VOC Rotterdam 13:05
It is still raining at Hazelaarweg.
Voorburg vs Salland 12:53
VCC : 133-1 (28 overs)
The rain has arrived at Westvliet, however, covers on with hosts at 133-1 after 28. Malan (we think) on 71* off 79, de Leede has started slowly as usual, just the one run off nine balls.
Punjab vs Sparta 1888 12:55
Punjab : 26-0 (4 overs)
They’ve managed another over at ‘t Zomercomplex, which Myburgh has celebrated by taking a six and a four off Ahmadi. He’s on 26* off 14, AND THE COVERS ARE ON AGAIN!!!
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 12:50
Excelsior : 119-2 (26 overs)
Niels Etman up the order as a pinch hitter, but deosn’t really pay off. Touseef Ahmad has him pinned in front for 2 off 10. Ingram in with Verhagen now.
Kampong vs ACC 12:47
ACC : 75-2 (18 overs)
That didn’t last long before they were off again, but in the interim Jacod has Potdar, caught by Van Biljon for 5. It’s going to be that sort of day . . .
Voorburg vs Salland 12:44
VCC : 123-1 (24.4 overs)
And a breakthrough at Westvliet, where Ganesan is on from the Paddock End and traps Musa in front for 50. Malan’s on 64*, joined now by Bas de Leede.
Kampong vs ACC 12:37
ACC : 66-1 (17 overs)
The players have returned at Maarschalkerweerd. A lot of confusion between Hobson and Potdar off the first delivery from Van Harten, but otherwise uneventful. Pierre Jacod on from the University End.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 12:33
Excelsior : 106-1 (21.5 overs)
A wicket at Drieburg: Waheed Masood gets Etman, caught by Mahesh Hans for 53.
HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout 12:31
HCC :
They’re looking at a 12:45 start now, with HCC to bat. There will be a reduction in overs, and we’ll let you know about that a.s.a.p.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 12:27
Excelsior : 101-0 (20 overs)
Hundred up for Excelsior too, and a half-century for Tim Etman, off 62 deliveries with six fours and a six.
Voorburg vs Salland 12:24
VCC : 108-0 (20 overs)
Gijs van Molen on from the Pavilion End immediately after the break: Musa pulls his first delivery for four, then drives him through backward point for another. Ten off that, but Gopinath comes back with a maiden from the Paddock End. Six off Van Molen’s second. Musa now on 44*, Malan on 55*.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 12:15
Excelsior : 87-0 (17 overs)
Excelsior accelerating into the break too, as Etman takes Hans for 4 and 6 in the 16th. He’s on 47* now, Verhagen 33*.
Voorburg vs Salland 12:13
VCC : 92-0 (16 overs)
Drinks at Westvliet and the hosts look well set, closing in on a century stand with Malan on 51* and Ahmad on 34*.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 12:09
Excelsior : 68-0 (15 overs)
Double bowling change for Dosti as Hans and Masood take over from Singh and Diwan respectively. Still no sign of a breakthrough though as Etman twice puts Masood across the rope in the 15th.
Kampong vs ACC 12:09
ACC : 66-1 (16.4 overs)
The rain has reached Utrecht, and the covers are on at Maarschalkerweerd.
Voorburg vs Salland 12:06
VCC : 89-0 (16 overs)
Malan brings up his second Topklasse fifty punching Khan out through extra for a single. Seems to enjoy batting against Salland does Malan.
HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout 12:06
Our happy snapper Sander Tholen reports that the covers are on again at De Diepput. He is not optimistic, to put it mildly, about a 12:30 start there.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 12:02
Excelsior : 54-0 (13 overs)
Verhagen brings up the fifty partnership for Exclesior taking another four off Singh in the 13th. Solid start for the Schiedammers, both bats in the mid-20s.
Kampong vs ACC 12:00
ACC : 62-1 (16 overs)
Robert van der Harten on for Malik. Still Roy from the University End, and although he bowls a couple of wides he suddenly gets one to jag back alarmingly to Hobson, opening him up completely. Goes over off stump though.
Voorburg vs Salland 11:59
VCC : 82-0 (14 overs)
Gopinath replaces Lubbers, Ahmad and Malan happy to milk him for ones and twos. Hashim Khan struggling with his line at the other end though as Ahmad puts him away for four through backward point, then behind square as he over-corrects. Ahmad onto 29* now, Malan on 46* at the other end.
HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout 11:57
We’re told that they’re hoping to get a start at 12:30 at De Diepput, where the problem has been a wet outfield.
Punjab vs Sparta 1888 11:56
Punjab : 26-0 (3 overs)
Just a couple of singles off Malik’s next, and then another shower sweeps across. The covers are back.
Punjab vs Sparta 1888 11:51
Punjab : 24-0 (2 overs)
Back at ‘t Zomercomplex, Myburgh playing out most of Ahmadi’s over before driving him through mid-on for four. Then he pulls him square for another.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 11:49
Excelsior : 38-0 (9 overs)
They are indeed back on, Etman and Verhagen continuing where they left off, as are Diwan and Singh. Jutst a 20 minute rain break in the end, so no overs off yet.
Kampong vs ACC 11:47
ACC : 47-1 (12.5 overs)
Malik switches to the Pavilion End, replacing Nana. And he gets the breakthrough, Raza cutting at a delivery outside off stump and a smart catch by keeper Ratha Alphonse. Raza goes for 21, succeeded by Shreyas Potdar.
Punjab vs Sparta 1888 11:41
Punjab : 15-0 (1.1 overs)
The covers are coming off at ‘t Zomercomplex.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 11:39
Excelsior : 21-0 (5 overs)
The first of the day’s showers has washed over Drieburg, but it’s dry again now. Should be underway again shortly.
Kampong vs ACC 11:36
ACC : 34-0 (10 overs)
Hobson survives a big appeal for leg-before from Roy, no dice from umpire Muthucumaru, but the over’s a maiden.
Voorburg vs Salland 11:35
VCC : 49-0 (8 overs)
Too straight from Victor Lubbers and glanced down leg by Malan for four, then the next ball is fullish and launched dead straight for six.. Full toss from Khan in the next is punched back straight for four more, then two balls later whipped over midwicket for four more. Malan’s raced to 34 off 26.
Voorburg vs Salland 11:29
VCC : 28-0 (6 overs)
Salland missing Elam Barathi and Reinder Lubbers today, so the venerable Steven Lubbers breaks his own recentlly- set record for career span in the top flight, he’s at first slip as Hashim Khan comes into the attack.
Kampong vs ACC 11:28
ACC : 29-0 (8 overs)
Alex Roy replaces Malik, and is driven through mid-off for four by Raza. Solid start this for ACC.
Punjab vs Sparta 1888 11:26
Punjab : 15-0 (1.1 overs)
Myburgh pulls Ahmadi’s first ball behind square for six. The next goes for five wides. At which point the rain reaches ‘t Zomercomplex, and the covers come on.
Punjab vs Sparta 1888 11:22
Punjab : 4-0 (1 over)
Ahsan Malik starts from the Harbour End to Rehmat Zulfiqar, who’s partnered as usual by Steph Myburgh. Rehmat lofts the third delivery over backward point for four, no excessive energy in the shot, but that doesn’t matter. No Buhari today, so Khalid Ahmadi opens from the Equestrian Centre End.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 11:19
Excelsior : 21-0 (5 overs)
Etman and Verhagen off to a solid start at Drieburg, Singh and Diwan opening the bowling for the hosts.
Voorburg vs Salland 11:16
VCC : 16-0 (3 overs)
Malan takes a liking to Naqash, off the mark with a front foot cover drive for four, then a tad squarer for the same result three balls later. Ahmad picks up his first boundary last ball of the third, driving Lubbers square for four.
HCC vs HBS Craeyenhout 11:14
No news at all as yet from De Diepput, and we can only hope that it’s not living up to its name again.
Kampong vs ACC 11:12
ACC : 13-0 (3 overs)
A brisk start by Raza and Thomas Hobson against Nana and Usman Malik: three boundaries in the first three overs.
VRA vs VOC Rotterdam 11:09
It is raining at Hazelaarweg.
Voorburg vs Salland 11:09
VCC : 2-0 ( 1 over)
Timely start at Westvliet, where Salland have won the toss and invited their hosts to bat first. Ahmad the elder and Janneman Malan opening for VCC, Lubbers and Naqash share the new ball.
Kampong vs ACC 11:05
ACC : 0-0 (1 over)
They’re under way at Maarschalkerweerd, ACC having won the toss and elected to bat. Kertan Nana opens with a maiden to Anis Raza.
Punjab vs Sparta 1888 11:02
Punjab have won the toss at ‘t Zomercomplex and elected to bat. Team news: Rushdie Jappie has joined his fellow-South African Jonathan Vandiar in Rotterdam, and plays today in place of Ashiqullah Said.
Rod Lyall 10:52
We have been corrected by the Competition Director, no less: there are no reserve days for rained-off matches this year. The reserve days which were in the schedule only apply where matches had to be postponed because of players’ international commitments. So where some matches are finished and others rained off, the table will first be determined on points average. We apologise for any confusion we have caused by our being confused!
Punjab vs Sparta 1888 10:45
A wet outfield has delayed the toss until 11:00 at Het Zomercomplex.
Dosti vs Excelsior ‘20 10:39
Hoping to get going on time at Drieburg at least, Dosti win the toss and elect to field.
Rod Lyall 10:15
And good morning from me as well: it’s all looking a lot better than we had anticipated, but the forecast is still suggesting that we’ll be lucky if we can get even some DLS results in today. Whatever happens, we’ll be keeping you on top of it all!
⛅ Weather Update ⛅ 10:12
The sun is out over Amsterdam, though there’s plenty of dark clouds about. The radar tells us there’s some serious weather off the coast which may or may not drift this way later in the day, but it’s dry for now.
Bertus de Jong 10:09
Good morning everyone, and welcome back for the penultimate round of phase one. Still a fair bit to be decided before the break, most notably the final form of the Group B mid-table, with one of VRA, VOC or Excelsior destined for the relegation pool. A whole lot of water has come down over the last 24 hours though, so a timely start all over is probably optimistic, and with another band of rain coming our way there’s a chance we won’t get any games completed at all today. There is a reserve day next Sunday if needed, though it is looking a bit brighter at the moment. Fingers crossed etc, we should have some word shortly. In the meantime, here’s the preview.
