Rod Lyall 20:25
Well, that was quite a day! Full credit to Hermes, who won twice this weekend to squeeze into the top six, while Punjab and HBS have cemented their positions at the top of the table. ACC, meanwhile, have nothing to show for two greatly improved efforts at the foot, and will go into the second phase with the thought that relegation is not quite a done deal. We’ll catch our breath for a week, with no Topklasse cricket next weekend, but we’ll be back to bring you all the rest of the action as the season approaches its denouement. For now, though, this is Rod Lyall saying goodnight, and mind how you go.
VRA
230-5 (43/43 overs)
HBS
231-4 (42.3/43 overs)
So it goes into the final over, Singh to bowl it, with six needed. Del Bianco on strike. The first ball’s hammered to midwicket for a couple. Then two more into the covers. And a third wide of mid-on to win it. HBS win by six wickets.
VRA
230-5 (43/43 overs)
HBS
224-4 (41.4/43 overs)
Eales reckons he’s got Klein plumb, but the umpire’s not persuaded. But after another single he evades Klein’s pad and connects with the stumps. Too little, too late perhaps, but with eight balls left it’s not quite over. Lucas del Bianco in at six.
VRA
230-5 (43/43 overs)
HBS
219-3 (40.4/43 overs)
Singh back from Mulder’s End. Three singles, then Barresi goes big towards cow and is caught by Shariz for 25. Kyle Klein joins Walbrugh with 12 required.
VRA
230-5 (43/43 overs)
HBS
216-2 (40/43 overs)
Walbrugh lofts Eales to long on for four, and later in the over Barresi whacks him to third man for another. 14 from the over in all, Walbrugh now on 84*, Barresi on 24*.
VRA
230-5 (43/43 overs)
HBS
202-2 (39/43 overs)
Now the only show in town, it’s nip and tuck in the Bos, where HBS need 29 off the last four overs.
Punjab
244 a.o. (45/45 overs)
Excelsior
191 a.o. (37.5/45 overs)
All over for Excelsior: Stan van Troost is caught behind by Shinwari off Shafiq (five for 10), Saqib Zulfiqar traps Rens van Troost in front, and then Mathijs Schewe is stumped by Shinwari off Shafiq (six for 17). Punjab win by 54 runs.
ACC
143-9 (40/40 overs)
VOC
144-8 (37.2/40 overs)
Jain and Harhangi have seen their side home, and for the second day in a row ACC’s spirited effort is just not quite enough. VOC win by 2 wickets.
VRA
230-5 (43/43 overs)
HBS
193-2 (37/43 overs)
Hake has removed Botha for 90, swinging across the line and caught by Singh at deep square leg. But since then, Walbrugh and Barresi have kept the scoreboard moving, and now HBS need 38 off the last six overs. Walbrugh’s on 77*.
ACC
143-9 (40/40 overs)
VOC
133-8 (35/40 overs)
Sayed returns, and when Van der Meulen, on 46, skies him vertically for Van der Merwe to take the catch, he runs halfway to the boundary in celebration, even before the catch has been completed. But since then Jain and Harhangi have been picking off the runs, and now just 11 are required.
Punjab
244 a.o. (45/45 overs)
Excelsior
170-7 (37.5/45 overs)
But the slide is on at ‘t Zomercomplex: Shafiq returns, and Niels Etman holes out to Musa at long on as he tries what he has to. He goes for 33, and then Victor Lubbers follows first ball, trapped in front as he makes to drive. Two balls later Ralston is caught by at deep midwicket as he hits out; three wickets in four balls for Shafiq.
Hermes DVS
230-4 (46.2 overs)
Sparta
226-9 (50 overs)
Five required, as Fraser bowls to Braat. And chaos ensues, as he drives the first into a gap at long on and they run three. Then a fourth, and the throw at the stumps is wild. Scores level. If they have that 46.2 in their minds, this is it. And Braat hits it over cover for another boundary, so Hermes win by six wickets. By my count that gives them an NRR of 0.199 (that is, I stress, unofficial), which means that any Punjab victory at ‘t Zomercomplex will put Hermes into the top six.
ACC
143-9 (40/40 overs)
VOC
124-7 (31/40 overs)
At ‘t Loopveld, meanwhile, it looks as if ACC are again snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Van der Meulen, now on 45*, and Aaditt Jain have been quietly manoevring their side towards a win which seemed pretty unlikely half an hour ago, and now they need just 20 more.
Punjab
244 a.o. (45/45 overs)
Excelsior
156-4 (35.1/45 overs)
And crucially, Ingram has gone, playing on to Sikander Zulfiqar for 61. That’s probably it, as Stan van Troost joins Niels Etman.
Hermes DVS
210-4 (44 overs)
Sparta
226-9 (50 overs)
There are several games going on at once here: Sparta might profit from Hermes’ desire to secure their NRR position, since the Spartans’ only interest, really, is to snatch the points. Hermes will have other things on their mind, although to be honest it looks as if the margin at ‘t Zomercomplex is likely to be greater than Bertus’s notional one run. However you cut it, Hermes need 17 to win.
Hermes DVS
198-4 (42 overs)
Sparta
226-9 (50 overs)
It’s increasingly looking as if Excelsior are going to have to beat Punjab if they are to make it into the championship pool, as Elenbaas and Braat reduce the deficit to 28.
VRA
230-5 (43/43 overs)
HBS
119-1 (27/43 overs)
Botha and Walbrugh are taking the fight to the VRA bowlers now, Botha on 61* in his most substantial innings of the season, Walbrugh on 44*. Eales and Singh back for the home side.
Punjab
244 a.o. (45/45 overs)
Excelsior
125-3 (31/45 overs)
Another half-century for Ingram, and few can have been so significant for his team. It’s unlikely to be enough, you’d think, but he’s not going to see Excelsior’s hopes disappear easily. They need another 120 off 14 overs, though.
ACC
143-9 (40/40 overs)
VOC
95-7 (23.1/40 overs)
And another, this time it’s Schoonheim, patting a simple return catch to the off-spinner. Aaditt Jain in to join Van der Meulen.
Hermes DVS
180-4 (37.6 overs)
Sparta
226-9 (50 overs)
The game – and, indeed, the season – take another turn, as Ostling, on 66, cuts Ahmadi behind point and off the top edge into the hands of Fraser. Braat joins Elenbaas with the match back in the balance.
ACC
143-9 (40/40 overs)
VOC
91-6 (21.1/40 overs)
And another for Hans: De Kok swings at Hans, the edge flies to third man, where Sheena lies in wait. VOC in deep trouble as Jelte Schoonheim joins Van der Meulen, who’s on 23*.
Hermes DVS
168-3 (36 overs)
Sparta
226-9 (50 overs)
Fifty for the imperturbable Ostling (is there an English verb ‘to ostle’, and does it mean what the Hermes opener is doing here? ‘Aaaarh, as oi was ostling down to ‘t market ‘tother day . . . ‘), and as they take a drink at the Loopuyt Oval things are looking pretty good for Hermes.
Punjab
244 a.o. (45/45 overs)
Excelsior
99-3 (22.6/45 overs)
Not so much now, as Verhagen spoons the simplest of catches off Musa to Vandiar at midwicket. He goes for 26, and Ingram, on 40*, is joined by Niels Etman. Not for the first time, Excelsior’s fortunes seem to depend on their long-serving allrounder.
ACC
143-9 (40/40 overs)
VOC
73-5 (16.6/40 overs)
Hans bowls Bettelheim as he swings across the line and sees his off stump go flying. De Kok joins Van der Meulen with his side once again in disarray.
VRA
230-5 (43/43 overs)
HBS
71-1 (18/43 overs)
Time for drinks in the Bos, with Botha and Walbrugh still in occupation of the crease, now on 28* and 29* respectively.
Punjab
244 a.o. (45/45 overs)
Excelsior
85-2 (20/45 overs)
Fifty stand now, with Verhagen on 24* and Ingram on 28*. They still need 160 for victory, but things are looking healthier for Excelsior than they were forty minutes ago.
Hermes DVS
139-3 (28.3 overs)
Sparta
226-9 (50 overs)
Another wicket for Baker, who’s switched to the Pavilion End, and Ostling loses another partner as Klijnhans drives uppishly to mid-off and Manminder Singh takes the catch. Olivier Elenbaas in at five.
ACC
143-9 (40/40 overs)
VOC
56-4 (8.5/40 overs)
VOC have lost another, as Jain comes looking for a single off Hans, is sent back, and is unable to make his ground. In a game considerably more significant that yesterday’s ACC have a sniff of a first win, and they are, as Australian commentators are fond of saying, ‘up and about’..
VRA
230-5 (43/43 overs)
HBS
55-1 (13/43 overs)
Botha and Walbrugh building a very useful stand, the latter greeting the advent of Turmaine with successive boundaries. Johan Smal, we understand, has split the webbing on one hand, and has had to leave the field.
Punjab
244 a.o. (45/45 overs)
Excelsior
64-2 (17/45 overs)
Solid progress by Verhagen and Ingram, Ingram belting Musa Ahmad for six. They’ve doubled the score, but there’s still a long, long way to go.
ACC
143-9 (40/40 overs)
VOC
44-3 (8.5/40 overs)
Something of a collapse at ‘t Loopveld, in fact: after smacking Kothari for successive sixes and adding a four into the bargain, Schierhout tries again and is caught by Sayed for 27. In the next over McKenzie falls to a stunning diving catch by Van der Merwe, in front of first slip, and leaves without scoring. Bettelheim and Arnav Jain together now.
Hermes DVS
102-2 (22.1 overs)
Sparta
226-9 (50 overs)
And a wicket at the Loopuyt, where Statham dabs a Snoep delivery into Mudford’s gloves. He goes for 16, bringing in CP Klijnhans to join Ostling.
ACC
143-9 (40/40 overs)
VOC
21-1 (6.5/40 overs)
Fourie dismisses Sayed wide of mid-on for six, and three balls later he’s dismissed himself, caught behind by Van der Merwe off a big edge. Taylor Bettelheim in at three.
Hermes DVS
102-1 (22 overs)
Sparta
226-9 (50 overs)
Max Hoornweg on from the Railway End, but Ostling and Statham bring up the hundred for Hermes, and with wickets falling at ‘t Zomercomplex their position is looking rosier by the moment.
VRA
230-5 (43/43 overs)
HBS
17-1 (2.1/43 overs)
HBS lose their first wicket, Mason trapped in front by Eales for 13. He’s very unhappy about the decision, but that butters no parsnips, and he has to go. Tayo Walbrugh succeeds him at the crease.
Punjab
244 a.o. (45/45 overs)
Excelsior
32-2 (9.2/45 overs)
Another one gone at ‘Zomercomplex: Etman cuts uppishly at Tariq and is caught by Shafiq in the gully. He goes for 18, and Verhagen is joined by Ingram.
ACC
143-9 (40/40 overs)
VOC
21-0 (6/40 overs)
A steady start by Schierhout and Fourie against Sayed and Kothari, but they know they have a relatively straightforward chase on their hands.
Punjab
244 a.o. (45/45 overs)
Excelsior
20-1 (4.6/45 overs)
But Excelsior’s pursuit has suffered a heavy blow, Mitchell slashing at Shafiq and smartly caught by Shinwari behind the stumps. Verhagen in to join Etman.
Hermes DVS
89-1 (17 overs)
Sparta
226-9 (50 overs)
Cameron Fraser took some tap when Doyle was in full spate, but he’s much more in control bowling to Ostling and Statham. Unlike many batters in the Topklasse, Ostling tends to favour common sense rather than the bludgeon, but they’re keeping the scoreboard moving along.
VRA
230-5 (43/43 overs)
HBS
1-0 (1/43 overs)
And in the Bos, where Floyd bowls the first over from Mulder’s End to Reece Mason, who takes a single, and Lehan Botha. Eales to bowl the second.
ACC
143-9 (40/40 overs)
VOC
1-0 (1/40 overs)
They’re back out at ‘t Loopveld as well, Sayed bowling from the Uilenstede End to Ryan Schierhout, partnered as usual by Francois Fourie. Just a wide off it. Kothari from the River Amstel End.
Punjab
244 a.o. (45/45 overs)
Excelsior
4-0 (1/45 overs)
Excelsior have started their chase at ‘t Zomercomplex, Mitchell off the mark with a four off Shafiq, who starts from the Equestrian Centre End. Suleiman Tariq will bowl the second to Tim Etman.
Hermes DVS
72-1 (13 overs)
Sparta
226-9 (50 overs)
A distinct change of tempo at Loopuyt Oval since the departure of Doyle, singles in place of the torrent of boundaries.
Hermes DVS
62-1 (9.2 overs)
Sparta
226-9 (50 overs)
Having blasted his way to 48 off 28, Doyle plays on to Umar Baker’s second delivery, bringing Nick Statham in to join Ostling. Some relief for Sparta (and for Excelsior), but that’s been a great start for Hermes.
Bertus de Jong 16:40
For the net run rate enthusiasts out there, Hermes need to chase this in 46.2 overs to be certain of passing Excelsior on NRR on a one-run Punjab victory. That’s assuming they go just one run over, if they overshoot with a boundary they could take a few balls more. That’s also assuming that Punjab win of course, which is hardly guaranteed…
Hermes DVS
39-0 (5 overs)
Sparta
226-9 (50 overs)
Doyle does what Doyle does, hitting Snoep for four and Fraser for six, then four fours off Fraser’s third over. Hermes, or more specifically, Doyle away to a flyer, and Excelsior must be viewing this with some concern.
ACC
143-9 (40/40 overs)
VOC
yet to bat
McKenzie bowls the last, and after some spirited running between the brothers he bowls Arav. Reddy and Arnav see off the last three deliveries, and ACC manage to avoid being dismissed.
Punjab
244 a.o. (45/45 overs)
Excelsior
yet to bat
As will Punjab, despite a late flurry of wickets, among them Vandiar for 116, caught by Derek Mitchell off Victor Lubbers. Two run-outs at the end make it three for the innings, but Excelsior have a big task on their hands if they are to make the outcome at the Loopuyt irrelevant.
VRA
230-5 (43/43 overs)
HBS

Botha removes Eales, caught at long on by Barresi for a 12-ball 17, bringing in Shariz Ahmad, who hits him for two and is then run out pushing for another second. But this brings in Floyd, who wraps things up by hitting Kyle Klein for six. VRA will be pretty happy with that.
ACC
136-8 (39/?? overs)
VOC

Hans falls to Aaditt Jain, unable to get on top of a defensive shot and caught at midwicket by Ryan Schierhout. Sayed scoops Hoseinbaks behind square to go to 54*, but then his gets under a lofted straight drive and is caught at long off by Van der Meulen. That brings together brothers Arnav and Arav Mishra, together in the ACC side for the first time, and they add some valuable runs.
Hermes DVS
0-0 (1 over)
Sparta
226-9 (50 overs)
They’re back out at Loopuyt Oval, with Ostling and Doyle opening as usual, Fraser starting with a maiden from the Pavilion End to the former. Martijn Snoep to bowl the second from the Railway End.

VRA

Sayed and Van der Merwe are beginning to get things moving, the former belting Sayed back over his head for four. Both on 25*, but then disaster strikes: Sayed drives him back hard and straight, Harhangi gets a hand on it, and the deflection into the stumps is too quick for Van der Merwe’s dive back. Surely the unluckiest way to get out? Shreyas Potdar in at seven.
VRA

Having reached fifty, Singh lofts a returning Botha effortlessly over midwicket for four to bring up his team’s hundred, then plays him a little less certainly to fine leg. And they’re underway at the Zomercomplex. Minhas and Musa Ahmad opening the batting. Ralston and Lubbers share the new ball. Slow and short second ball from Ralston, who seems to be bowling off pace, and Minhas pulls hard across the square rope for six. And we have cricket! Mudford up the order to open for Sparta alongside Balwantsingh, Olivier Elenbaas opens the bowling and finding extravagant movement. Mudford comes down the track to try to negate the swing second ball, beaten on the inside edge and the ball keeps swinging away from the keeper, gone for four byes. Mudford off the mark two balls later off an inside edge. Ralph Elebnbaas from the other end, Mudford down the track again swinging third ball and skies it. Safely held. Big wicket first up. Ferguson in. And Ferguson out! Two balls and he prods outside off, straight to first slip! Scheepers at four. What a start for the Sky Blues!

Some quick back-of-the-envelope NRR calculations for those who like that sort of thing; the spread between Hermes and Excelsior is in the region of 20-25 runs, depending on how high-scoring today’s matches are. If Excelsior were to lose today and Hermes win, both games would have to be pretty tight for Excelsior to stay ahead. Good morning or whatever, the rain is back. The inevitable downpour arrived a little earlier than the radar told us to expect here in Amstelveen, but the square was safely covered in time, which is more than can be said of your humble correspondent. The worst of the weather seems to have passed now though, and presumably will be dry down south by now. So outside chance we get a timely start at one or all of the three games in South Holland today, but probably in for a bit of a wait over at ‘t Loopveld and here at the Bos. Should have some news for you in about 20 minutes time. In the meantime, why not scroll back over yesterday’s drama, or check out the preview?
Rod Lyall 18:55
So VRA squeeze into the top six, ruling out any possible late challenge from a valiant Hermes. Theirs was the only successful chase today, but there’s no doubt they did it the hard way, and they’ll need to pick themselves up when they face HBS tomorrow. HCC were a class too good for VOC, but the laurels today really must go to Hermes for their decisive victory over defending champions Voorburg. We’ll be back tomorrow for the final round of matches in the first phase, with crucial points at stake as we move into the race for the top four, and to avoid relegation. So do join us then, and for now this is Rod Lyall saying have a great evening (or, of course, day if that’s where you’re at).
Voorburg
144 a.o. (44.4 overs)
Hermes
193 a.o. (49.4 overs)
A dogged last-wicket stand between Van Vliet and Nota adds 32, but then Nota’s run out by Woermeijer, and Hermes win by 49 runs, Van Vliet finishing on 27*.
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
168-8 (48.2 overs)
A brace of twos for Nashier seal the issue: he finishes with 35*, and VRA win by two wickets. And with that, they have sealed their place in the championship pool.
HCC
247-7 (50 overs)
VOC
167 a.o. (46.3 overs)
McInerney into the attack, Hoseinbaks reverse sweeps into the hands of Crowley, and HCC win by 80 runs.
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
164-8 (48 overs)
Fletcher squeezes one past slip and down to the boundary. Just four required now.
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
159-8 (47 overs)
Nine required now from three as Nashier and Fletcher continue to pick off the singles.
HCC
247-7 (50 overs)
VOC
163-9 (45 overs)
It’s effectively over at De Diepput too: Jain major’s been caught by mid-on by Wiggins off Leijer and goes for 40, and then Upadhyaya’s bowled by Charumbira. Harhangi and Hoseinbaks the final pair.
Voorburg
122-9 (40 overs)
Hermes
193 a.o. (49.4 overs)
Braat collects another: Nel caught by Klijnhans for 7. Some late resistance from Van Vliet, which Hermes may regret from an NRR point of view. But the points will matter to them more.
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
150-8 (44 overs)
Nashier and Fletcher inch their way towards the target, and now they need 18 from six.
HCC
247-7 (50 overs)
VOC
148-7 (39.6 overs)
Jain minor goes without scoring, caught by Wiggins at point off Overdijk, and Roman Harhangi comes in to join Arnav.
Voorburg
108-8 (37 overs)
Hermes
193 a.o. (49.4 overs)
Klein’s gone at Westvliet, caught by Ralph Elenbaas off Braat for 35, and Van Vliet joins Nel with Hermes on the brink of a very important victory.
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
146-8 (41 overs)
Fletcher gets away with one, slicing Sayed to straightish midwicket. A couple of balls later ACC are celebrating what they believe is a catch from Nashier, but the umpires rule, it seems, that it was a bump ball another catch is put down. 22 required from nine overs, but it’s all about the wickets now.
HCC
247-7 (50 overs)
VOC
143-6 (38.5 overs)
A very useful stand comes to an end as Crowley returns to remove Van der Meulen for 32, catching an inside edge and Patel taking a good catch low to his left. Jains at both ends now, as Aaditt joins Arnav.
Voorburg
97-7 (35 overs)
Hermes
193 a.o. (49.4 overs)
Klein and Nel have got the deficit down below 100, but with only 15 overs left and only three wickets in hand, the odds still favour the visitors. No doubt there’s a lot of interest at Westvliet – and in Schiedam – in events in Amstelveen.
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
140-8 (38.3 overs)
Sayed returns for a final burst, and when Turmaine pushes for a second to square leg his despairing dive is too late as Wolfe absolutely marmelises the stumps. It’s increasingly looking like ACC’s first win of the competition as Fletcher joins Nashier.
HCC
247-7 (50 overs)
VOC
135-5 (36 overs)
Six for Jain off Charumbira relieves the pressure a tad, as do back-to-back boundaries for Van der Meulen off Wiggins. But the equation’s still 113 from 14, and that’s a big ask.
Voorburg
91-7 (30.4 overs)
Hermes
193 a.o. (49.4 overs)
Braat returns to remove Kingma, trapped in front for 12, and young Jacobus Nel joins Klein.
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
132-7 (35.3 overs)
A win for VRA would, of course, cement their top-six place, rendering Hermes’ efforts fruitless, and Eales and Nashier have added 21 for the seventh wicket. But as I write this ACC grab another, and it’s the biggie: Eales, on 40, nicks Zaidi through to Wolfe, who takes a very smart catch. All the more credit to the keeper as he’d just had to deal with an attack by a passing wasp. Turmaine joins Nashier.
HCC
247-7 (50 overs)
VOC
104-5 (32 overs)
VOC’s, not so much. Jain and Van der Meulen have brought up the hundred, but with 18 overs left they still need a gross of run (for those who remember pre-metric tables). Charumbira on from the Scoreboard End now, bowling in tandem with Wiggins.
Voorburg
78-6 (28 overs)
Hermes
193 a.o. (49.4 overs)
Olivier Elenbaas returns to get Molenaar caught behind for 6, and now it’s Viv Kingma who’s in with Klein, who has made his way to 22*. Hermes’ hopes of making the top six are not quite dead yet!
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
107-6 (26.6 overs)
Kothari back, and he promptly has Floyd caught by Raza as he drives uppishly to mid-off. Eales is still there, but he’s got a heavy, heavy weight on his shoulders now.
HCC
247-7 (50 overs)
VOC
84-5 (25.3 overs)
Jed Wiggins brings spin into the attack, and McKenzie goes down on one knee to sweep his third delivery, hard into the hands of Leijer at square leg. Jason van der Meulen in at seven, with VOC’s reply another in tatters.
Voorburg
52-5 (22.2 overs)
Hermes
193 a.o. (49.4 overs)
Ditto at Westvliet, where Kulkarni has been and gone, caught behind by Statham off Woermeijer. Michael Molenaar in now, and Voorburg also need a big stand to get their chase back on track.
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
102-5 (25.3 overs)
Hans and Raza operating in tandem now, and it’s Hans who gets the breakthrough, Shariz pulling him in the air to Rahil Ahmed at midwicket. This one is definitely not going according to the script, as Floyd joins Eales.
HCC
247-7 (50 overs)
VOC
68-4 (20.3 overs)
And another one down at De Diepput: De Kok lashes out at Leijer, and is caught in the covers Gorlee. What is it about Dutch batters and the unwelcome rush of blood? Arnav Jain joins McKenzie, with VOC again needing a bit of discipline with the bat.
Voorburg
46-4 (21 overs)
Hermes
193 a.o. (49.4 overs)
Some serious rebuilding to be done at Westvliet, with Kulkarni absorbing most of the strike but yet to get off the mark. Which he does as I write this, taking a single off Woermeijer. 194 looks a long way off at the moment.
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
88-4 (23 overs)
Sayed back as ACC look to press home their advantage, with the chase now in the hands of Eales and Shariz. This is a very important partnership for the men in blue.
Rod Lyall 16:37
Thanks again, Bertus. Dutch cricket never fails to surprise . . .
Bertus de Jong 16:35
Well this is all a lot more exciting than expected, all three games precariously balanced here. All a bit much for me this, back to Rod…

VOC

Seems to be Overdijk’s day today at de Diepput. Into the attack and nicks off the set bat with his sixth ball. Bettleheim goes for 22, de Kok in.
Voorburg
40-4 (16 overs)
Hermes
193 a.o. (49.4 overs)
Speaking of trouble, VCC are three down now. Kaplan caught off Woermeijer and Hermes maybe sensing some incipient panic as Ryan Klein comes to the crease. And sure enough down goes another. Sam van Giezen bowls Croes with the first ball of the 16th. Kulkarni in
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
70-4 (18 overs)
Well they’re certainly in it now as the set Singh shanks Mahesh Hans to backward point where Potdar holds the catch. Shariz Ahmad in and VRA in all sorts of a sudden.
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
61-3 (16 overs)
Beauty from Kothari to take Prince’s off stump, he goes for 23 and judging by the volume of Kothari’s celebration he at least thinks ACC are well in this. Eales joins Singh in the middle.
HCC
247-7 (50 overs)
VOC
38-2 (8 overs)
VOC two-down too now as Fourie guides a wider ball from Leonard straight to slip. McKenzie in.
Voorburg
16-2 (8 overs)
Hermes
193 a.o. (49.4 overs)
Another over for Oliver Elenbaas and another opener back in the shed. Levitt caught for just 4. Croes joins Kaplan.
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
39-2 (10 overs)
Smal takes on one the front pad trying to work Kothari to leg, huge appeal and up goes the finger. Smal looks deeply displeased, Kothari rather over-exuberantly directs him to the pavilion. Singh in.
HCC

Voorburg

ACC

VRA

Prince looks to be enjoying his promotion back up the order again, he’s played a couple of attractive strokes for his 15*, but loses a partner now as Rasool is utterly castled by Sayed. Smal at three .
HCC
247-7 (50 overs)
VOC
11-0 (1 over)
And a perfect start to the chase for VOC, Crowley struggling to find his line and Schierhout cashes in, first ball outside off cut to the rope, next is short and sits up to be pulled in the opposite direction for the same result. 11 come off the first, Fourie yet to face, Leonard from the other end.
Bertus de Jong 14:45
Thanks Rod for that brief stint. ‘smee again for a wee while, just to get the chases started.
Voorburg
3-0 (1 over)
Hermes
193 a.o. (49.4 overs)
They’re back on at Westvliet as well, Oliver Elenbaas starting to Michael Levitt and Cedric de Lange. A steady start by Voorburg’s openers as well.
ACC
167 a.o. (48.4 overs)
VRA
0-0 (1 over)
First action of the afternoon at ‘t Loopveld, where Izhaan Sayed opens from the Uilenstede End to Demari Prince, Shirase Rasool the non-striker. Tidy first over, and off the final delivery he’s put down in the gully – sharp, low chance, but it’s gone to ground. The returning Chris Knoll from the River Amstel End.
Rod Lyall 14:55
Thanks, Bertus. Dutch cricketers must have largely forgotten what it feels like to play with the sun on their backs, but with the exception of HCC at De Diepput the batters haven’t been able to fully capitalise on the weather. That said, ACC have got past 150 for the first time this season, so all things are relative. But it could well be that the top six will be settled before the end of the afternoon.
Bertus de Jong 14:45
Well the morning’s three innings all looked like they could go either way and hour or so ago, with all three sides five down for a hundred and some at the second drinks break. HCC will be the only batting team happy with how things have gone since then, thanks to Overdijk and Patel. Hermes and ACC have both had their lack of batting depth exposed again at the back end. Both have got something to bowl at this afternoon, so do join us again after lunch.

Welcome back one and all for the first day of the final weekend of phase one. And it’s an absolute scorcher. Temperatures in the thirties expected across the country, quite the contrast from the grim summer weather we’ve been getting used to. Just the three catch-up games today before the full final round tomorrow; HCC taking on VOC at de Diepput, Voorburg welcoming Hermes DVS back to Westvliet and of course we’ve the Amsterdam derby at her Loopveld. All that and more in the preview of course, check back in about half an hour for toss news…
